Yes, I too am experiencing cold start issues & have to use choke every time. But I guess this is the winter effect and also I'm not being able to use my bike daily. Even if I am, it's not for a long time. So it all depends on how long your bike hasn't been used. Once started, it won't be a problem for at least a day but the next day you may have to use choke & get the heat up.

One thing you can try is "not to accelerate while ignition." Let the engine crank up on its own. I've experienced it many times that if I rev while ignition, the engine won't start. But once the engine starts, you can rev to check if it's started.

Other than that, I haven't experienced any other issues yet. Hope this goes as expected.

Other Than this how is the bike doing? Crossing my fingers to get a good one, I mean without any major quality issues .

For my bike, if I open the throttle on a cold start (with or without choke), the RPMs drop suddenly, probably because the engine is cold and it needs more fuel rich mix to come up to temperature. After 30-40 seconds of idling, the throttle begins to work as expected.

To owners who have gone to high altitude hill stations, has there been any noticeable drop in performance?. I wanted an FI bike badly, but I can't wait anymore as I need a bike asap. My old RTR 160 used to feel strained at higher altitudes which in turn put strain on me .

Would have gone for it but its poor headlight and useless mudguards are major drawbacks for me, especially in a place like Kerala where it rains most of the time.

Used to feel the same with my 160. But I didn't feel that the engine is strained when I took 200 to Spiti in winters this year. Ofcourse starting the carbed bike in those extreme temperatures at that altitude was not as smooth as in FI though.

                    But no complaints for performance.

Guys please help, its rainy season here in Chennai. i did not start the bike for a week. Today i tried to start the bike with/ without using choke, it didn't start at all. I tried it for 10 mins, and i stopped starting the bike, as i started feeling that the self-start would go kaput, and my battery would die. Any suggestions, i am too far away from SVC. I am afraid to take it to the local mechanic.

Hey, thanks for the reply. A real confident booster . I am an apache fan boy basically and haven't found anything that puts a smile on my face like it does. Fz 25 came real close but lost out due the before mentioned points. Btw, How did your tune the carb over there?. Haven't come across a detailed review or video showing the performance of the RTR 200 in leh ladakh so far .

Did you try pushing the bike or rotating the wheel and starting it?

Nothing special mate. Living in cold of Shimla, just made sure it starts in single crank every morning. So in nutshell, carb should be properly tuned - neither rich nor lean.

                            Guys,

I did the stupid thing by messing with the carb. I missed the factory setting count of turns and not able to get the correct tune. could you guys please help and tell me the correct number of 360 degree turns that comes from factory. pardon my language. I promise I will never mess with my carb again.

Hey, it seems you may have one of the following issues:

                              1) Battery drained
                              2) Starter damaged
                              3) Fuse blown
                              4) Spark plug choke up

If the issues is one of the above you can either check it yourself with the help of manual or online videos or with the help of a local mechanic. If you are skeptical about safety with the local guy, be present there while check up.

But if you think the issue is something else, you can always go with the SVC option as it's safe & a less hectic alternative.

#Note - One more thing you can is trying the slope start method (Pushing the bike ahead & start while in gear). If your bike starts by this method then you can be sure that the problem lies with electrical system & the rest is just fine. I recommend this option before trying anything else.

                              Hope this helps!

                              • ABS icon for bike with "no ABS"? (Apache 200)

Hi, I recently bought an Apache 200. The only available model is the Carb Variant with no ABS. But I noticed that the bike still has the ABS icon on the console which glows during startup. Why did TVS provide it if there isn't any ABS installed?

Can it mean that they can provide ABS once the FI+ABS variant is made available? It would be a nice upgrade!
