Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Super helpful mateOriginally posted by rideon74 View PostMatte Black paint maintenance do's and don'ts:
As the matte black avatar of the D400 has started hitting the streets, I went ahead did some digging up of relevant tips for the maintenance of it's fantabulous looks
. It's evident that the more you want in terms of styling, the more care you must take but it's not a pain for those who will be taking (or have taken) the decision to own a matte black Dominar.
Here's what I've assimilated from the net so far, from various professional automotive detailing websites:
- Hard water and matte paint do not agree well with each other! Use only soft water whenever possible.
- Be sure to remove bird droppings or dead/stuck bugs as soon as you can, to prevent damage to the matte finish.
- The key point is to avoid allowing scratches or damage to the paint surface - such damages on a matte paint job is usually permanent and attempting to fix even a small scratch can start to change the surface qualities of matte paint, making for an inconsistent appearance.
- It is important to wash a matte painted vehicle regularly, as any excess dirt and oils will start to give the paint a sheen.
- The only (effective) way to protect matte paint is with a liquid matte paint sealant specifically formulated not to increase the surface’s gloss rating.
- You’ll need to use “very mild soap and soft water” or a cleaner specific for matte paint finishes - available on Amazon India (pricey though!).
- Do not use any form of detergents or dish washing liquids! Using dish soap to clean the matte painted surfaces will weaken the bond of any sealant or substance on the painted surface of your bike. A no-shine matte car wash soap that uses no fillers, no silicone, and won’t strip your matte paint of its layer of protection is really what’s needed.
- It is not that matte paint job has no clear coat, if you get it from the factory it definitely will. In fact, it’s actually the clear coat that makes factory matte paint look flat with its microscopic imperfections and “dimples”.
- Matte paint, if it’s from the manufacturer, is absolutely designed to last the entire life of the vehicle. Because most matte paint does in fact use a clear coat layer, the only thing you have to worry about is protecting that clear coat layer with a matte paint sealant and the correct cleaning procedures.
- And lastly: strictly no waxing! Because the wax will cause a splotchy and clouded appearance.
I hope this helps. Cheers!
Thanks for this
Cheers

Motul is 550/Litre bottle. My P220 uses 1150mL so I got another can to help me with it. I heard that Bajaj oil has changed to something supplied by HP. Just wanted to know if the new breed Bajaj oil is better than last.Originally posted by rohitks31 View PostHi

Don't know much about this new breed as I recently bought D400. But engine sound is much smoother. Give a try.Originally posted by Akash.Yadav View PostMotul is 550/Litre bottle. Cheers mate. Thank you so much for the feedback. Also, it would be cool if you could share your experiences with Domi here. If done with servicing then the service costs too. Pics are always welcome.Originally posted by rohitks31 View PostDon't know much about this new breed as I recently bought D400. But engine sound is much smoother. Give a try.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
D400 is quite a good bike. Good power and good mileage. I have done with 1st servicing. They charged me 1700 for that. 1100 for oil and then 180 for chain greasing. 40 for Spark plug spray. 100 for additive oil and etc.Originally posted by Akash.Yadav View PostCheers mate. Maintaining this bike is not expensive if rider is riding it like a bike and not plane. Pics are not so great lol.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Thanks bro for enlightenment. Will stick to 10000.Originally posted by nikhnHi. Dominar uses fully synthetic oil. Bajaj DTSi 10000 is fully synthetic oil. It is manufactured by Total oils. Don't mix it with Me semi-synthetic.
The motul you're talking about is semi-synthetic. Fully synthetic Motul is around 850₹ or so. Don't mix the two. The new Bajaj oil is from Total oils.
They claim a oil change interval of 10000kms. Hence DTSi 10000.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Yes I do understand that. That's why I asked what kind of oil is used. Bajaj DTSi 10000 is semi synthetic oil. That's what it was until recently. I came to know that the manufacturer has changed for the oil although it was the same spec, 20W50. I can use mineral, semi or full synthetic oil in my bike. Wasn't a crime to ask, was it?

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I got delivery of my matt black dominar. I read here extensively that there is an rpm lock at 4000 rpm till the first service. But that's not present in my bike. Can't understand why. I've clocked about 150 kms till now.

The manufacturer recommended spec for Dominar is 10W50. Bajaj DTSi 10000 oil is fully synthetic.
You can use any oil you want. No one is stopping you. At the end of the day, it's your bike.
I was just telling the manufacturer recommended spec.
