Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Thanks for the heads up on the Matt Black, Akash. I guessed as much, though it's always best to take a second opinion on these points. So it's back to being indecisive and trying to choose between the white and the dark blue [emoji3]Originally posted by Akash.Yadav View Post- When Life throws you a curve, Lean into it! -

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
But that Matt Black looks awesome. I am thinking of getting Domi as a company to my P220. Blue or Maroonish tinge or whatever that color was, didn't cut it for me. Have to look at Matt Black and talk to the sales/service team to know what's the upkeep steps for it. If it ain't that difficult, I might as well get the Matt Black. Or it will always be White. 😁Originally posted by rideon74 View PostThanks for the heads up on the Matt Black, Akash. Hello Dear Co-Riders
Greetings from Amith!!
I am New around the Block. and am pleased to meet you all. I travel extensively and now am planning to do a touring circuit with camping along my trail and will be Using Dominar for it. However there is a void i have to fill before i jump on the decision to move ahead. I have been reading through this thread carefully looking for words like GWVR, Payload, Load capacity etc. But, I am not sure if anyone in the Thread spoke of GVWR for Dominar. Please help me find out that value according to the manufacturer. Minimum Payload (Just for reference from where I am coming from, I will be carrying is at 190 KG including riders, gears, and luggage.)Amith Raghav.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi, How can I know whether mine is first batch or not ? I got mine on 20th March.Originally posted by Ijs View PostMine is first lot bike and there is no issue with it. The glorified vibrations issue is common with all big capacity single cylinder bikes. The missing issue which few were facing is resolved with new ecu update. And as per my knowledge new new dominar is coming in December they might add some colours.
The ecu updates for power loss issue came after I got my bike. But still I have never experienced this.
Can someone suggest ways to reduce the vibrations as I am badly due for second service and may be I can ask them to take care of those points.
I have felt that bike is much better with Shell V Power and a fully lubed chain
And should I ask them for an update to the newest ECU version ??

GVWR is 332kgs for ABS and 330kgs for Non ABS, Kerb weight is 182kgs abs and 180ks Non abs. I hope you can get the payload idea from these details.Originally posted by AOT View PostHello Dear Co-Riders

But you can easily carry more.
Ground clearance is 157mm.I think your is second lot bike. And like you i never faced any missing or lag but i still got both the ecu updates. For vibrations get them to open a job card and mentione to tighten all the bolts and screws.Originally posted by HrKa View PostHi, How can I know whether mine is first batch or not ? Importantly the three engine mounting bolts with the proper torque tool , there are 3 mounting bolts where the engine is rubber mounted to chassis. These are tightened from rhs and there is need to hold the end bolt from the lhs to tight.Last edited by Ijs; 08-24-2017, 01:51 PM.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Matte Black paint maintenance do's and don'ts:
As the matte black avatar of the D400 has started hitting the streets, I went ahead did some digging up of relevant tips for the maintenance of it's fantabulous looks
. It's evident that the more you want in terms of styling, the more care you must take but it's not a pain for those who will be taking (or have taken) the decision to own a matte black Dominar.
Here's what I've assimilated from the net so far, from various professional automotive detailing websites:
- Hard water and matte paint do not agree well with each other! Use only soft water whenever possible.
- Be sure to remove bird droppings or dead/stuck bugs as soon as you can, to prevent damage to the matte finish.
- The key point is to avoid allowing scratches or damage to the paint surface - such damages on a matte paint job is usually permanent and attempting to fix even a small scratch can start to change the surface qualities of matte paint, making for an inconsistent appearance.
- It is important to wash a matte painted vehicle regularly, as any excess dirt and oils will start to give the paint a sheen.
- The only (effective) way to protect matte paint is with a liquid matte paint sealant specifically formulated not to increase the surface’s gloss rating.
- You’ll need to use “very mild soap and soft water” or a cleaner specific for matte paint finishes - available on Amazon India (pricey though!).
- Do not use any form of detergents or dish washing liquids! Using dish soap to clean the matte painted surfaces will weaken the bond of any sealant or substance on the painted surface of your bike. A no-shine matte car wash soap that uses no fillers, no silicone, and won’t strip your matte paint of its layer of protection is really what’s needed.
- It is not that matte paint job has no clear coat, if you get it from the factory it definitely will. In fact, it’s actually the clear coat that makes factory matte paint look flat with its microscopic imperfections and “dimples”.
- Matte paint, if it’s from the manufacturer, is absolutely designed to last the entire life of the vehicle. Because most matte paint does in fact use a clear coat layer, the only thing you have to worry about is protecting that clear coat layer with a matte paint sealant and the correct cleaning procedures.
- And lastly: strictly no waxing! Because the wax will cause a splotchy and clouded appearance.
I hope this helps. Cheers!

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
This is massively helpful. Considering the environment the bike will be operated in, it's best to have the metallic paint and get gloss shine every time. Wish there was a metallic black available. Doesn't look like Bajaj will come up with any upgrade sort of thing so soon. May be, just may be the paint scheme will change. White it is then.
