If so then how often do you have to change it.
It's been just 3 months and I had to replace the front pads.. according to service center my braking is hard and I use it a lot.. but three months is too short time for a life of brake pad...
noticed even the rear brakes are almost dead.. I think have to replace these too now.. it's worth around 450

      Feedback on this pls..

It depends on how you use. Brake pads can last between 10000 - 20000 kms varying from users.

      It is not reserve.
It is safe amount of fuel required to be in tank as fuel pump always needs to be submerged in the petrol.

You can run the bike till tank dry, but with risk of burning up the fuel pump which is not good.

Just a small review. I have ridden the white FZ25 for around 1100 Kms.
        The good part:
        1. Oodles of torque
        2. Good acceleration still 110 Kmph
        3. Good for city and highways
        4. It can cruise at 100 kmph without breaking a sweat and has more in reserve for those spirited runs
        5. Mileage around 33-34 kmpl

        The not so good:
        1. Rear tyre hugger has little purpose but cant imagine what would happen without it in the rains
        2. Flimsy tail end
        3. Headlights

My bike does have that rattling tappet sound. But it is more when you have bad quality fuel. The bike runs like a dream with Speed/Xtra Premium.
I showed it to an independent mechanic and after riding, he said that maybe Yamaha have kept the tappet setting a bit loose to counter the expansion due to engine heating up. Apart from that I don't see any issues. As someone said, get the setting adjusted after 2000 kms.

People are out trying to dismiss the bike. But mind you, when I rode a friend's brand new KTM 390 (pre-April 2017) and FZ25 back to back, you get to appreciate the humble, no fuss nature of the engine. The KTM does rattle a lot when compared to the FZ. The power deliver of the FZ25 is smooth and linear and doesn't make u uncomfortable. The handling is precise and the bike brakes and stops effortlessly. You can reign it in just with a snap! Its a point and shoot camera from Yamaha!! You can lean, you can race, you can tour. It just does all of it that you want it to.

I also found a very good use for the grab rails. I can actually hang a heavy carry bag/bag on the grab rail and they dont fall due to the design.

All in all, I feel its a very good bike for the money you put in. Its a cute Japani Gudiya!!

        Regards,
        Kaustubh Vaze

Only negetive of this bike is tyre hugger .
headlights are good adjust it manually ,stock setting was shit.
engine is reliable as it is derived from xt250 dual sports , give it some time to settle then review it in long term .

Now that is exactly what I knew from before. I guess the term "reserve" was misleading.

There is 2.1L of petrol in reserve (as per manual). And it's basically when the last bar and fuel sign start blinking(and reserve trip meter starts). And yes, Reserve is a kind of misleading term for FI engines.

So guys, I have completed around 200 KMs. I am facing a problem with the gearbox. The shifts (both up and down) are not smooth. It's like, after the shifting is complete, it travels some more. And there is two distinct sound during shifting.
I had the exact same issue with my old bike, FZ16 also. That never got rectified in 27k KM of ownership.

I shift up at around 4-4.5k rpm and shift down at around 2.5k rpm. I try to quickly pull the clutch lever fully, shift and release the clutch level slowly.

Yesterday I was riding a friend's Hornet. The clutch lever, accelerator and gear shifts were much much smoother compared to my FZ25. The Hornet was purchased after I purchased my FZ. However, it has clocked around 400KM so far. After riding the Hornet, it seems to me that the Honda is at another level in terms of smoothness.

Not sure if this is the way Yamahas are or I am making any mistake that is causing the trouble. Any help or tips are most welcome.

It'll get better with more riding. Try rev matching while shifting down. At 1700 km now my gearbox is smooth.

Regarding gear shifts -Do your 1st service then ride hornet you will see the difference.
Accelerator is not comparable with any bike in 250cc segment & below(instant response every time) .
Yes for Clutch you require massive forearms.

Please mention your problem to service guys when you change your brake pads this time, check if tyres move freely & not rubbing.
At first with new pads you need to do hard braking(not so hard that it will make you skid) for bed in purpose then you can use them normally.

This is way too early for brake pads to wear off. Even though it's monsoon and chances are there might be dirt between pads and disc, they should last longer.

Anyways, you can check how much the discs are getting heated up after a short ride without much braking. That will give you an idea whether the brakes are engaged or not while riding.

Just 200 kms done. Engine and gearbox needs time. They will get smoother slowly after 800-900 kms and so on.

There is bleak chance of quality issue. However it must be specific to a batch. But i dont think it is quality problem.

Did you notice lag in acceleration, low fuel economy?

When i bought my Duke 390, rear brake lever got jammed slightly and i did not notice (wont notice in city traffic and torque that bike makes). Noticed smoke coming from rear and disc was red hot, so was the alloy. Just getting the lever loosened resolved the issue.

Finally was able to get RTR mirrors fitted onto my FZ25. Much better viewing area.

Did not took the bike out after fitting. But I used them on my 390 too and did not found any issue with traffic.

                              1. Honda's are typically the benchmark in gearbox and engine refinement.. So though not all bikes will be as smooth as the best, by no means is Yamaha bad.
                              2. Yes the FZ25 gearshift is not as refined as one might expect, and yes I too have 2 distinct gearshift engagement sounds when I shift. Very distinct n notch like sounds as if the shift arm engages 2 separate notches each shift. I've only just completed 100km so my bike is way too new for me to get overly concerned just yet
                              3. One way I find it makes a difference is to "prime" the gearshift by keeping it mildly firm under pressure up or down "tightening" it. I find by applying just enough pressure (less than the pressure needed to actually shift" the shifting is smoother. I guess it might have to do with a slightly looser "play setting of the lever"
                              4. Don't release the clutch slower than necessary, you are shifting in the right range of 4-5k rpm however at that rpm and given this bike is an FI unit, power delivery and fuel feed response is much quicker than a carb unit.. so no need to feather the clutch specially or slower than usual. However do ensure you don't do half clutch shifts... Pull they clutch firmly and all the way in 1 smooth action when possible unless stop go traffic requires half clutch riding ( in such cases I manage my speed and spacing in traffic to avoid pulling the clutch half way constantly. Added +: also helps better fuel efficiency
                              5

Over time though these gremlins s should vanish

Even I felt during my test ride that the tail end is flimsy plastic/fiber. May be Yamaha must have already tried and tested it. It should be durable as per Yamaha standard.
