So yea, there's nothing to worry.
I'm just curios to know why isn't it evident in other similarly powered bikes? Duke 250, pulsars and others? Maybe owners can confirm from their long term observation.
It might not be of any concern, but it annoys the hell out of me when cruising ~75-80 kmph, it's more audible than exhaust + wind combined

This is specific to the low output (mainly the 2 valve) single cylinder bikes made by the Japanese, more so in the Yamahas.

i can't say for sure without hearing what you are explaining. some of the sources of annoying sounds (apart from engine) can be:
1.petrol tank cap (older dukes are notorious for that teeny weeny buzz at times, including mine). place you palm firmly on the tank cap and see if the noise vanishes
2. tool kit under seat (if that's where it is located on the fz). remove that any other things that you might have stored under there.
3. rear view mirror (i've noticed this on my duke, but rarely.. the duke has multiple screws at the mirror end to adjust/tighten the rear view mirrors). again just place your hands on the mirror and see if the sound vanishes.
4. some random nut/bolt dropped around the engine area or a missing bolt on the crash guard(experienced the same on my d200), or an nut/bolt that hasn't been tightened sufficiently.

If it indeed is from the engine, then you might want to get that sorted out (maybe shoot an email to yamaha, that might get the svc to take up the work seriously). I have no such tappet or related noises on my 30k km run duke 200.

It's quite widespread on the XTs (the engine is based on this) when under load, and most Yamaha technicians there say it's fine. In fact it's a well known noise from the XTs.

The noise is clearly from tappet, there are many instances of the same issue being reported across multiple forums on many FZ25's. Yamaha SVC's have been useless so far, visited multiple centers and the only explanation they give is "high power bike saaaaar, so this sound is common"
Shoot a mail to Yamaha, you bet I did, only thing they do is make SVC people call me back and visit their showroom, only to come up with some other crappy explanation. Fed up.

Yamaha has confirmed with me that periodic maintenance at 10,000kms will cost 2000₹ approximately. One can choose not to do it though. How many of you have faced this?

My bike gears had become smooth to some extent recently after doing 2000 Kms. But now it has become hard again. Odo is at 3800 Kms. I even tried cleaning and lubing the chain which usually makes the gear smooth again. Tightness seem ok as there is no loss in power. But to no avail. Checked the oil and it still seems ok as it has run only 2800 Kms after first service oil change. What other issue could cause the gears to become hard again?

An apples to oranges comparison I think will only confuse folks. Also, Dukes run on shims, and tappets are rocker arm with nuts, which can be adjusted. Shims are to be replaced for the most part.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

It's not exactly from the tappets. I'm talking about the rattling around which starts at around 70kmph. It's from the gear driven balancer which is used to reduce vibes.

At idle, yes, a little tappet noise is fine.

Even my bike has tappet noise which stars at 4k rpm by making Garr noise and intensfies at 5k rpm with vibration on handle bar and footpegs. After 5k bike becomes smooth but vibration persists. Rear view mirror becomes useless after 85kmph

I found a video in which I can hear some sort of rattle skyliner34.

It seems normal, though it gets worse when oil is overfilled/wrong grade or when engine is not too hot.

Any Fazer 25 owners here!?
Couldn't find a dedicated thread for the Fazer.

Can someone please mention the pros and cons for FZ vs Fazer battle or rather justify getting the Fazer over the FZ.

And lastly does anyone have any news about ABS being offered on these bikes anytime soon?

Its been 5 days and 115kms on my new fz250 and average on console shows 28km/l after mostly city riding. Is this okay for new bike and will my mileage increase gradually afterwards?
