• Re: TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Ownership Experience

Hi everyone.

I am a bit confused while calculating the mileage of my bike (Reserve to reserve method).

I hit reserve at 197 km
I refueled at 222 km (5 liters)
Again hit reserve at 447 km.

Someone please show me the calculations.

**What i have done is, (447-222)-(222-197) = 225-25=200 km.
So, it comes to 200/5 = 40 kmpl

Now i am seriously doubting how i was good with mathematics in school.

447-197=250. 250/5=50kmpl!!

Those reporting above 40 KMPL mileage, are you guys riding mostly in 50-55 Kmph speed, not crossing 60 kmph? Because I get less than 40 KMPL and I regularly touch 65 to 75 Kmph.

As my first service is due (completed only 470 km till now), i am riding it around 35-45 kmph in city and 55-65 (max 70, only for overtaking trucks and all) on highway.. my route constitutes city and highway in 50-50 ratio..

i don't think speed in city is going to increase much (traffic), but surely on highway i am going to speed up considerably after first service..

I hope the mileage doesn't drop too much..

No ask the SVC to check it. No sounds/ noise should be heard from the bike !

Yes !!! I'd say TVS has did a great job in terms of refinement and stability. The bike feels almost smooth and I 'd never felt any vibrations still now.

At the speeds of 80-100 kmph the engine doesn't feel much stressed and never felt overheated engine !!! Believe me, it's just awesome . And the air assist + oil cooling system is a commendable one as they reduces the heat significantly.

I got above 40 kmpl when I was averaging my speed between 60 to 70 not more on the highway.

Yes I don't commute a lot on daily basis , but I tour a lot as I was eagerly waiting for these days in my Life. (Little passionate too).

I bought my bike on October 11th, 2018.

*Check on the carburettor setting whether it's tuned right or not.

*Ensure you maintain a correct PSI in both tyres. (25,30 in solo riding) or
(30,35 If pillion seats )

*Try doing a mileage test by yourself ,will give an approximate mileage figure.

Can you please elaborate on carburettor settings? My idle screw is set such that cold start idle rpm is 1000 and warm/hot idle RPM is 1200-1400. I haven't changed the other screw from factory setting.

I'm getting 38 kmpl consistently in my 200 4v with normal and slightly aggressive riding. I also maintain a tyre pressure of 25-28. Steady throttle is the key. On a 160 4v, one must easily get 45+kmpl.

Ride the bike for 10 kms to heat up the engine. Turn the idle screw to make the idle 3k. Turn the AFR screw anticlockwise till the RPM rises to the maximum. Trust your ears; use the tacho only for reference. Then turn the screw clockwise by 180°. Then make the idle 1500 RPM.

This. I agree with ayrus here. Also, rakeshchn if you're concerned on a FE, riding under 50kmpl and maintaining below 4.5k RPM in each gear will give you atleast 50. If you ride the bike within 60kmph and not rev it to high RPMs again, you should atleast get a steady 45kmpl. And yes, riding at 65-75kmph steadily will give you as good as 40, which isn't bad considering that's what most 160cc bikes like my Unicorn gives. It's normal.
