Also, the bike manufacturing date is sometime in Feb 2014, does it need to have the gear level changed ? Is the new level available for change in Delhi/NCR/anyone got it changed in Delhi/NCR ?
I am glad I could be of any help bro
Do get that carb float needle changed! Will solve the overflow issue.

What oil are you on brother? The hard gears and later smoothing out that you mention is mainly attributed to oil getting heated up and lubing your gearbox better... maybe its time to change to a different oil...
Few pages back there were images of the rtr free of cost parts replacement thing... I have it saved.. go back a few pages I will also pm them to you

Apparently the one problem i have faced in three years of owing an apache are the rims. either they are weak or have sturctural incapabilty but the rims get deformed slightly after an year or so and they just cant be repaired. As a result i have replaced the rims when i replaced the tires for better quality

I haven't got that checked..will do in next service.

I am on TVS Oil as the bike in only 3 months old with 2K on odo. I read in this thread that it is better to stick to company oil till 10K. Is it so ?

Ok...will check the history to get the date for replacement validity.

Yep stick to stock mineral... but... ask yohr svc if you can bring your own oil.. people usually stick tos tock because of warrenty issues... if your svc allows you to bring your oil you are good to go. and there are much better minerals than tvs oil.

Hey guys, I've been facing a problem with my rtr. I had gone for a short 200 km ride. During the ride, whenever I took my bike to 8-8.5k rpm, the bike was jerking. Hiccups at high rpm indicates a clogged air filter right? But the carb and the air filter were cleaned about 400 km ago. So what could be causing these jerks? Any idea?
I'm also facing uneven idling issue and evntually the bike stalls. But starting it again isn't a problem, it starts with a single push of the starter button.

First of all you need to check quite a few things
              1) check the air filter again (could have gotten wet or clogged in our monsoons)
              2) afr ratio might be off... open the spark plug and post a pic.
              3) carb diaphram may be punchtured
              4) petrol tank might have water and you might be running it constantly on max 2 to 3 liters in the tank i.e. near reserve.
              5) adulterated fuel
              6) the tps(throttle position sensor or in the rtr case a total problematic system):banghead:

                Hi !!
My rtr 160 is 2 weeks old , it runs fine now with awesome pick up . The issue that I am facing is that its engine heats up like hell in a journey of around 5 kms only . Since I am college student , therefore have to travel around 50 kms daily . I was wondering whether to take it into the college or wait for my first servicing because there aint a mechanic in the way and I am an amateur when it comes to bikes and if it suddenly halts in the mid way then........phew .

Check for The air suction pipe. It may have gone loose.

What is color of smoke you see from exhaust if there is any smoke.

Bike will heat up a lot during the runn in phase(go through this forum for knowledge on running in a bike) you have to use it right? Will you just stop riding it if it heats up? Check oil level and your good to go.

Your first opinion about RTR's ABS being junk maybe right, according to you.. But your assumption of RTR's ABS being "Desi" is totally wrong as the ABS system has/had been jointly developed by TVS ("Desi") & a GERMAN company called "Continental automotive".. Take a look at this :-

Not trying to change your opinion or claiming that RTR's ABS is the best/worst in the market but giving you the right information..

Update: I got the new 'modified' tci unit and the new gear shift lever installed on my rtr on Monday from arunagiri tvs. No major change in the new tci (the main aim was to eliminate the tps from the bike). I will post details about the change soon.

I have changed the TPS 4 times in these three years of ownership, even now there is a lag when i accelerate. It's very irritating.
Can you please post the Part number of the newly modified TCI unit and the price?

Not sure about the part number. It costs 955 rupees (my vehicle is under warranty, so I wasn't charged for it.)
U need to ask them for the modified tci unit.
When I got my bike back, I removed the fuel tank and saw that the tps was present but the wire going from the tps to the tci was disconnected and there was no free connecter in the tci unit. According to me this is the only visual difference between old and new tci unit. (if someone could post a close up of the old tci unit it would be very helpful)
There is no change in performance but there is a sure change in exhaust note in the lower rpms. Above 4k rpm the exhaust note remains the same as before.
I removed the throttle cable going to the tps unit by myself, so now the throttle action is much smoother as effectively the throttle cable is going only to the carb now and the other half of the cable is useless :P Maybe the throttle grip action, which now requires lesser effort to rotate, makes it feel like the bike has become more responsive but actually performance is the same.

Now about the gearshifter, I initially felt some difficulty in operating the new gear shift lever as I felt it requires more effort to change gears than the old one but after using it for about 200 km in city, it is much easier and smoother to shift gears now compared to a few months ago.

                              Hey guys,

Today morning while going to office my ride started to make noise suddenly. The noise was as if two surfaces were rubbing. I got down and checked and was shocked to see that it was due to the bolt type thing of the chain link that was coming out and it was rubbing against the chain guard. If I hadn't noticed it, it'd have come out completely and the chain would have got cut in a while. Luckily, I was near my office and was riding around 20 km/h. If it had happened when I was doing 50+ km/h and the chain had got cut, I don't know in what state I would have been by now.

While coming back, I went to Arunagiri TVS. The idiots made me wait for 45 minutes and then told me that they can't do it and that I'd have to leave my bike there and collect it tomorrow as they were closing down for the day. I was seriously infuriated but controlled my anger as I still had more than 15km to travel with an almost broken chain I managed to ride back home at 25 km/h for around 23 km by stopping every 2km and hammering that thing back into place with the spanner provided in the toolkit.

All this happened on a chain that was changed only 2500km/2.5 months back. I was lubing the chain every weekend/250 km. It was being tightened to around 3cm of freeplay whenever it got loose. My earlier chain, with all thrashing and zero maintenance(cleaning, lubing and tightening done only during service) lasted 15k km and still had life when I changed it. I was really surprised to see this happen. More than surprise, I was shocked and afraid.

Anyway, what I'd like to know is, does the chain and sprocket set come under warranty coverage since it was changed only 2500km back? I still have the bill with me. I'm going to take it to the SVC tomorrow. So, would appreciate if anyone can provide me info regarding the warranty.
