See, it will work, not very well though. Tubeless tyre beads are designed to seal in the air between the rim. Regular tyres will hold it in just by pressure, and this sealant thing is a bad idea, because there's always rotational stress between the tyre and the rim, seen those top-fuel dragster videos in slowmo where the rim actually rotates first before the tyre catches up?

Then, tubeless tyres have reinforced sidewalls because they have to support the whole weight of the bike, unlike in a tubed tyre where the tube distributes the weight over a larger area so they can have weaker sidewalls.

To sum up, it will work, might slowly loose pressure, but the risk of catastrophic failure is too high to justify using a tubed tyre as a tubeless.


That's quite a lot of money, even for IRC which incidentally all the foreign buyers of the Ninja250 hate for being a crap tyre, but in india, it's one of the best tyres we have! That itself speaks about our standards. What do the mrf/dunlop rears cost these days? I'll be going to the shop in a couple of days so it'll help to have an idea. Btw, i was quoted Rs. 1450 excluding valve for the tubeless 90/90-17" zapper-fs. And when i asked him about the Q he said it's a speciality tyre so we don't have it. An exclusive MRF dealer.

Well compared to international tyre standards like Michelin and Pirelli, IRC tyres arent that good. I think MRF tyres are as good as IRC tyres if not better (I think MRF is better). But its the lack of option in this size that leaves us RTR180 owners go for it. Another thing is for sure, out of the two tyres that we get in India in 110/80 17", the IRC has better grip than the Zapper C. I can say this confidently because i have ridden a Zapper C although in 120/80.

The best switch for the 180 owners will be the tire from the dazzler i think, as it's 110 too.
but for the upsize i donno the best 120 section tire, and Q is only available in 18".

Hmm, if you ever decide to upsize your tyres, i think the 120/80 would be a better option than the 110/90. Reason is the first would have a 96mm profile, while the 2nd would be higher at 99mm. Of course the 100/90 would be only 90mm high. All still more than our stock 80mm. How i wish we had low profile options!

I didn't ask because the only 18" tyre he had was the Zapper-Y and that too the old tubed one, not the tubeless one from the zmr. The spare parts dealer whom i usually go to has a nice tyre collection, he had all the mrf tyres earlier, but now even he's saying there's no stock coming. But he has IRC! Quoted the 100/90-18" GeoCruiser at 1750/-. I'll post more IRC prices when i go there, probably tomorrow.

You're talking about on the pulsar 200/220? I've ridden a p180 with a 100/90 zapper-C and felt it was pretty grippy. Didn't feel sticky at all, but pretty anchored. If even you think MRF, esp the Q, is better than IRC, then i think i'll try to find that, there are many shops in bombay that i haven't searched, sure i'll get it somewhere. If i can't, i'll get the geo.


The site lists a 140 section Q in 17" but i'll bet that's never been sold given the lack of availability of the regular ones. What could be the reason for the Q mostly only coming in 18" It's a very stylish looking tyre. A lot of people would buy it just for the style factor for their 17" i bet.

@Chicane/Julian/Renny: Just want to add my inputs to the previous tyre discussion.

My opinion is similar to what hordes of others have put forth here. TVS tyres are utter crap, and this is from personal experience in the DRY. Forget wet, even MRF needs to learn how to make tyres that grip in wet.

I've ridden an RTR shod with MRF (Discover Tyres), it was under tyred and yet felt confident. I've also ridden an RTR with TVS tyre on the track, every bloody corner that I would drop a gear to get back into the powerband the tyre would be all over the place as it just could not put down the torque being handed out to it. (That being said, it still din't stop the awesome handling on the RTR to beat my own time on the 220 ). After which when I tried the MRF shod RTR again it was like was driving a bike with leech like tyres... that was the difference I felt in DRY conditions.

Next example, a friend of mine did not get the stock MRF 90/90 tyre for his 220. So next option was to try the TVS 90/90 tyre from the Apache. A brand new front tyre loosing grip everytime he braked a little more harder than normal resulted in a scary skid (which under similar conditions did not happen in MRF). This again is experience from DRY conditions.

Summing it put, I wish the RTR came shod with atleast MRFs, coz the bike can do so much more with much better tyres. I would never recommend TVS tyre to anyone "agar jaan pyaari hai toh" (If one values their life)

But would the current alloy (100 section) support the 120??
I really wish i had a tyre with 60 or even 50 profile, it would have done wonders in cornering while looking too good at the same time...

I've never ridden/tested the geo like i did the TVS and ZAPPER Q, but i really liked one thing that the 100 section geo looks like 110 section, it's a beafy looking tire with sexy grooves.

The ZAPPERS which the pulsars came shod with are pretty grippy atleast 100 times better than the CRAP TVS.


I dont know the compound thing of the Q but i think it's very soft compound tire cuz after the 10K in my FIERO it really "faded" off..
And yes it has lovely looking grooves...

The most pethatic "WET" MRF tyre i've ever came across are the HONDA DIO tyres, superb in dry, shitty scary in WET.

@renny: If you think the stock MRF Dio tyres were scary in wet, try the TVS Olivia replacement tyres .

Anyway no point in continuing this discussion as you are hell bent on arguing that TVS = MRF. And you sole point for putting up that is the TVS Victor tyre which was definitely an experimental tyre which was phased out and later did not appear on future Victors. For a 100cc bike to wear out a tyre in 20 K kms means the tyre is ultra soft. Anyways that tyre in question did not appear in the market ever again.

Which brings us back to the conclusion yet again that TVS tyres are crap and there is no doubt about it.
