starting trouble
Hi all,
The button start refuses to start the bike at times. Yes, it doesnt start the bike and I had to kick start the bike. This happened twice so far after the 1st servicing (today and 2 weeks back).
Two weeks back when it first appeared, i had the issue in the morning while going to office but the problem vanished when i used the button start in the evening while returning back from office.
Today I had it in the morning and evening while coming back. Now after reaching home, I tried to use the button start again, voila... its back to normal
Now I cant take it to the SVC as you all know these guys even try avoiding the most evident issues leave alone the ones that i cant replicate.
Details of the bike state -
Just above 1000KMs ridden,
first servicing done after 550KMs,
oil is vavoline 20w40 (though the service center guys werent keen to change it to non TVS oil, i forced them to do it)
stopped riding in 50 after 700 KMs (Now i am mainiting the speed below 5K rpm)
the lights and horn are up and working
whenever the bike fails to start, I have observed that the meter is refreshing (switching on and off) as if I had keyed the engine off and on again and it appears as if the engine is struggling to pickup the power to switch on (low cough like sound)
Please pour in your inputs and suggestion and also possible reasons for the issue.Last edited by rakesh_ic; 06-04-2012, 07:52 PM.

Actually there's nothing you can actually do about it. Just that you use some good quality engine oil (Shell Advanced AX7, Motul 5100T etc.), keep the engine bedding bolts tightened well, ride either under 4K RPM or above 6.5K
Just some common measures to avoid the vibes.Join my facebook Page: Life On 2-Wheels | Blog: Life On 2-Wheels

Single cylinder (and V-twin) motorcycle engines in general are prone to produce more vibes than parallel twin's and in-line four's.Originally posted by shahbaz63 View PostAny idea why this vibrations are there ? is it very annoying ?
RTR's has them a bit more than the competition (but don't forget, it still goes like a crotch rocket!
!). Good news is, '12 models has lesser vibes as owners say. The vibe range is 4.5-6.0K Rpm. Even this range is easily tolerable i would say.
Remember to always run-in the engine properly after buying any motorcycle. The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.

@shahbaz63
Check PTR's take on engine break-in or run-in
The dilemma of 'Engine Break-in'
Now about lesser vibes in '12 RTR's... well, that's what the dealer said to me and some users here in xBhp as well

Both have their own looks. When I bought my yellow 160 that was my love but when I bought my 2012 white 180 I was hunting VFM. So that means old one was better or old one was my favorite but whatever it means RTR is a damn good bike. TVS could have made the headlight a bit more aggressive and more stanced for 2012 and that could be surely a killer !!Originally posted by Royalapache View PostIsnt it a fact that older apache are way cool than new ones...|| My Doc says bhp is directly proportional to testosterone.
