Vibrations....
Hi guys....Today I took my beast to college(first long ride(around 100kms)after the first service)...I had decided to go below 50kmph till my bike reaches 1000km in the odo(run in period). But as soon as I went above 50kmph the handle bar started vibrating a lot...It was in 5th gear...I was confused with the fact that if this much is the vibration at 50kmph,then how would it be if I go above 70...I really felt a need for 6th gear with this type of vibrations.
Can you tell me your experiences above 50kmph in 5th gear...and what should I do to reduce the vibrations...? i mean I had not gone above 60..So cant tell if the vibrations will be gone after 60-70 speed like the old apaches...

Surely not the way you saying here, infact its negligible for me and ony happens when ripping very slowlyOriginally posted by arjunv212 View PostHi guys....Today I took my beast to college(first long ride(around 100kms)after the first service)...I had decided to go below 50kmph till my bike reaches 1000km in the odo(run in period). But as soon as I went above 50kmph the handle bar started vibrating a lot...It was in 5th gear...I was confused with the fact that if this much is the vibration at 50kmph,then how would it be if I go above 70...I really felt a need for 6th gear with this type of vibrations.

The vibrations tend to happen when you ride the bike in 4k rpm, i.e., 50 -60 kmph, but once you go beyond 60+ the bike is smooth.Originally posted by arjunv212 View PostHi guys....Today I took my beast to college(first long ride(around 100kms)after the first service)...I had decided to go below 50kmph till my bike reaches 1000km in the odo(run in period). But as soon as I went above 50kmph the handle bar started vibrating a lot...It was in 5th gear...I was confused with the fact that if this much is the vibration at 50kmph,then how would it be if I go above 70...I really felt a need for 6th gear with this type of vibrations.

hey dont worry about the vibes. mines done abt 2k kms now. and one thing that i have noticed on rides that the vibes become almost zero around 5k-6k on tacho. translating to around 60-70Kmph.Originally posted by arjunv212 View PostHi guys....Today I took my beast to college(first long ride(around 100kms)after the first service)...I had decided to go below 50kmph till my bike reaches 1000km in the odo(run in period). But as soon as I went above 50kmph the handle bar started vibrating a lot...It was in 5th gear...I was confused with the fact that if this much is the vibration at 50kmph,then how would it be if I go above 70...I really felt a need for 6th gear with this type of vibrations.

Any one from Chennai here, if so can any of your prefer good authorized TVS service center for Apache. The guys @ Ramkay TVS, chennai sucks, i left my bike for 1st service today morning, i hinted them a couple of issues, but they never bothered it, they said they will change oil and oil filter and come and get the bike by 6pm. I can also see they are fooling people and mind washing people to change parts.

ya...I was riding between 4-5k rpm...maybe that is the reason...I didnt go above 5k when I felt the vibrations...Anyways will try above 5k after completing 1000kms...Now only 780km in ODO....
@Vishnu After how many kms did you began to rip your ride hard..?? I mean did you wait till 1k..?
By the way did you get that rear fender..??

started going >5k rpm after her first service at 500km... i dont usually rip hard(hard revs..shifting in high rpms...i usually shift at 5k rpm and cruise under 80 on highway.Originally posted by arjunv212 View Postya...I was riding between 4-5k rpm...maybe that is the reason...I didnt go above 5k when I felt the vibrations...Anyways will try above 5k after completing 1000kms...Now only 780km in ODO....

Guys one solution to minimize the vibration off course personal experience
Vibration's are felt only on initial ride when you start bike & you are in lazy mode driving slowly & slowly slowly accelerating, i.e. when Engine is not running on optimum temperature vibration's are felt very easily, and more importantly vibrations are in Rider's mind already so its very much felt but people who have been riding continuously for more then 50km almost red lining engine can feel that there is very negligible vibration over 6k rpm, so what i understood is Correct shifting & correct acceleration is important And about 4k-5krpm same thing to be said for first 10-15km I feel vibration in bike but as hit highway continuously riding at 80-100kph after that Vibration in that Range seems to be negligible too....
And One more thing is once you open your throttle for max gain the other time it feels no stress to Reach there again...

This is interesting. This is exactly what I felt in my bike too that there is rev-limitters in apache & it will kick-in at some point of the time. No bike is deprived of this as its not good for longevity of the engine if you dont have it. But most of the users here tried to say there is no rev-limitters for A180 & its only there for A160. And just like what you said the rev-limitter kicked in between 9.5 & 10k rpm for my A160.Originally posted by prateek2210 View Post
Why can't I accelerate beyond certain RPM? Is this normal?
Perfectly normal. Accelerating beyond certain limit on RPM damages the engine temporarily or permanently & hence manufacturers have identified a safe RPM limit beyond which the rev-limiter cuts off the fuel preventing any damages to the engine. For example I have not seen beyond 9500rpm at 6th gear
Well I have question here. Its kind of OT but just for knowing purpose. I know about the facts that the tires have to reach to operational temperature or else it will not perform well & thats the reason in F1 & motoGP the drivers try to heat up the tires in the trial lap. Now my doubt is we all know about this Nitrogen nowadays gaining more importance as it will keep the tires cool or in other words the pressure inside remains some what same through-out no matter how much distance you cover, which is good for long trips. Now imagine the tires are filled up with nitrogen in the early morning or after just 1km of travel from your place. At that time the tires are not in their optimum temperature & once you put nitrogen it will maintain the existing temperature rather than increasing it to the desired level. So in that case there is chance for more skidding throughout your journey no-matter how long you travel. Its just a doubt correct me if I'm wrong.Originally posted by prateek2210 View Post
What is the air pressure to be maintained on the bike?
This will answer Image
Keep your tire pressure checked almost everyday as TVS tyres are well known to slip even in dry tarmac until they reach operational temperature. So in rains, they're more prone to skid.
Also you had suggested some alternate tire models. Now when we go for higher configuration do we have to put in more air or the same what we put in stock config tires.
Will the Osram or Philips (35w) bulb give more luminousity than stock 35w bulbs. If yes I did like to go for it.Originally posted by prateek2210 View PostHeadlight
RTR 180 (old) has got 35w Halogen bulb (Halonix Brand) and works on 9a.h 12v battery with AC supply. You can use bulbs from Osram or Philips of 35w instead of stock bulb.
Also can we use them without converting to full DC, I mean with the stock set-up?
I know for 55w stuff we need to make complete DC.
Any idea about the price for these 35w Osram & philips bulbs?Last edited by susheelkumar; 08-24-2012, 12:23 PM.---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding Nitrogen, this thread is full of Info (Link)Originally posted by susheelkumar View PostWell I have question here. Its kind of OT but just for knowing purpose. ......... Its just a doubt correct me if I'm wrong.
Its better not to oversize or downsize the tyre , but yes difference of 10mm is ok (E.g - 110 can be oversized upto 120)and the tyre pressure would remain the same as of stock.Originally posted by susheelkumar View PostAlso you had suggested some alternate tire models. Until and unless you think of getting a 180 profile rear
And if you are using R15 V1's tyre its better to keep the pressure that is recommended for that profile
Osram and Philips will give you a 'tint' of white light. 35W bulb can be used without any conversion to DC. The price range can be better answered by shiwaan. He is using philips in his bike. I f I get to know the price will pm youOriginally posted by susheelkumar View PostWill the Osram or Philips (35w) bulb give more luminousity than stock 35w bulbs. If yes I did like to go for it.

Prateek bhai, hats off to the work
Though I read Argee's post before you did that for RTRs too, but I didn't took the initiative and you did.
Will surely help newbies, or maybe some of us too.
Anyways, I guess you forgot to edit the question related to Rev-limiter. And AFAIK, there's no rev-limiter in RTR180 (correct me if I'm wrong
). Also we don't have 6th gear
. And I know it happens, we tend to ignore small things while stressing more on important ones
So I am not pointing it out as your mistake, but just to get it corrected so that your work get more appreciated.
