  • First Service Review:
15/09/2012. The date I took the delivery of my pearl white Apache RTR 180 ABS. I have owned a 110cc bike (Honda CB Twister) before the beast. The most I got on the odo on my commuter in a month was about 700km. Knowing this, I knew it was gonna be a long painful wait till 1000kms on my beast. I do not know how I did it, but 16 days later, the odo showed 751.6kms. It was already time for the first service! So here is my experience after the first service:

Major issues I've had with my beast are:
1.Chain makes a loud CHAK CHAK sound.
2.There is a very irritating sound like that of a loose washer or nut from the chasis.
3.Center stand needs to be retracted manually, the spring was loose.
    4.The left mirror was loose.
    5.Fake neutrals.

All of the above fixed to satisfaction. Number 1 seems to persist, though. Will have to look into it.

I maintained the bike in a very clean way. Though it rained and she got dirty, I did a minimal shampoo wash n got out all the muck. The SVC people appreciated it as it reduced their work(I think it was plain flattery :P ). Oil change was done. Filter changed. All moving parts lubed. Clutch adjusted. Total bill amount including oil cost : 378 INR.

Changes noticed after service : Bike is bit more responsive to throttle. I can feel it in the very first gear. Also, before service, I was able to do 52kmph at 4k RPM. Now I'm able to do 54kmph at 4k RPM. Saree guard removed.

Overall experience : I'm very happy. But it's only service number one. Aage aage dekhna hai kya hota hai!
Don't matter what it is: Touring; Racing; Commuting. All I know is, I belong on the saddle.

    Rides : Honda CB Twister(Feb 2011 - Present) | TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS(Sept 2012 - May 2016) | Honda CBR250R C-ABS Repsol(March 2017 - Present)

    • ^^Good to hear that you got a good service.
Regarding higher km/h at the same rpm, that's not possible unless gear or spocket or speedo has been modified. So you must not have noted it properly before i guess.

I guess there was an error earlier, or there is one now. Because, I ride on the highway 90% of the time. I maintain 4k for long stretches. So the 52 kinda got etched. Im sure about change in reading. Could one of you tell me what performance you are getting at 4k?

one thing i have noticed on my highway runs are that speed on the same RPM varies accordin to the dressing and other factors
speed i got durin 5k section wearing my rather huge jacket is lower than the one i get wearing my armour.
                simple logic i guess, drag
i may be wrong though .

p.s i filled >15 ltrs petrol today, full tank now. after that there seems to be a squeaky sound comin from the bike after starting. i think its got something to do with the washers/dampers between the tank and chassis, coz the sound disappears when i apply pressure on the left section of the tanK

                what do you guys think???

                • Would this be okay if I mention this query here?? (just another noob)
My RTR 180 has gone deaf it doesn’t respond the way it used to
On 5th gear at 4000 rpm I see 50-52 km/hr; at 6000rpm around 80km/hr…This is what I literally of asked the servicemen at Tristar in Bangalore few months back, which they couldn’t give me while tuning up the carb (but the response was good).
Recently I gave my bike for service at Karthik motors in RamMurthy Nagar the mechanic did tune the bike but on road the bike doesn’t respond when it has to or when asked for.
Now let’s say I’m at 8000rpm on 4th gear when I shift to the 5th the rpm just drop like crazy it drops up to 6000rpm, 2000rpm drop is too much isn’t it.
To gain a gud pick up or just to overtake a guy on pulsar 150 its taking a lot of time.

Second thing, the mechanic at Karthik in RM nagar said that I’m not supposed to try anything like sprocketing as the pressure would fall on the bore, that’s what he said and I didn’t ask much about the details!

Third concern, my biggest worry - front tyre slips while cornering
I changed my rear stock tyre to MRF zapper C 120 exactly a month before (got it for 2500 including company fitting at Bansavadi, Bangalore MRF showroom).
With these tyres the cornering potential has gone 40% higher than the stock (my personal opinion). I used to feel like Rossi on apache with these tyres they made me feel real good on road.
Since last three days I have noticed a lot of changes, my front wheel just slips offwhile cornering, would this be a problem with the shocks? The tyres are in good shape, they are not worn out. Twice I was about to slip, I was able to see as well feel the front tyre trying to slip away on different occasions, fyi guys these occasions that I missed to claim my medical insurance were on the same roads and turns I take everyday they were no difference in the driving conditions. My heart tells me that the front part of my bike is not able to take it…just wanted to see if you guys have had this problem, are these the shocks??

My hypothesis is this : since you are complaining about slips after the tire replacement it might be because of that. TVS tires are slippery already. I guess since the rear tire is hugging the ground better the front one is slipping. Get the front stock change to mrf. Should solve your problem.

Firstly please don't post the same query twice It would be better if we focus on very basic things to solve issues, first. If that doesn't work, we can go for real tech stuff

                        1. If I remember correctly my RTR180 gives 54kmph @ 4000RPM @ Gear-5. And yes its normal. The RPM DROP while shifting gear may even be a problem with your throttle+gear shift pattern. And I hope you know how to downshift the gears properly.

                        2. Infact it can be both advantageous and disadvantageous. There is a limit to everything. Same applies to sprocketing. If you change 14T front sprocket to 15T, it relaxes the engine and you will end up losing pick up but gaining speed for a fixed RPM [hence more highway cruisability]. If you decrease the sprocket teeth a lot at front, it will increase the pickup to a an extent but will screw your valves and bore.

                        3. You checked the tyre pressure? You checked that rear-suspension setting is same on both sides? You sure there's no problem with the fork/T-bar [read bends]during a a straight ride?

                        Edit:

                              1. I believe I downshift or upshift the gears properly.

Correct me if I’m wrong, in city driving conditions – we usually downshift in moving traffic to overtake a roadblocker and in this condition when you downshift the rpm goes up right? But my concern is about the rpm dropping while upshifting…earlier I hardly used to downshift in city

                              1. How about changing the front with 160’s 13 teeth?? Advantages and disadvantages if you could tell me

                              1. Yes I checked the tyre pressure reducing and increasing both now it is 25-28 psi; Rear Suspension in on the 3rd level both side so we are good on that too; I have a feeling that it could be the front suspension, as well there’s no free rotation in the front wheel- would this have any effect on the slipping away??
