  • Brake pad

Hi guys..can you tell me the average lifetime of a brake pad and how to adjust rear brake. My rear brake has become ineffective.
I consulted a local service center(not TVS).The service center guy told that the brake pad might have been worn out. Also , I checked the brake fluid level. It is near maximum level. My bike is just 4 months old. Please give your suggestions.

The pads run for around 5k KM on an avg. But it mostly depends on your usage as well. You can't adjust the disk brakes. Check for pads life, if they need replacement then do it, But if they are fine then the prblem could be due to formation of air bubble, for that you will need to bleed your brakes.

Avg. life of a brake pad is about 10k km... Get the brake pad cleaned & perform brake "bleeding"... The pads have become dirty or an air bubble is stuck in the fluid column..
I spoke to senior mechanic, he told me that the disc brakes have NO setting or adjustment..Just ensure the fluid level is above MIN,brake pad are not in worn out condition & perform brake bleeding after a regular interval of km..

            • Hiccups in low gears and misfiring sounds from silencer

Hi guys, I own a RTR 180 abs of AUG 2011 make. I have ridden around 3.5 k only cos i get to use it mostly in weekends.

Recently am experiencing loss of power in 1st and 2nd gear and hiccups when i raise the throttle. I reported it to SVC during service and while giving it back they told they cleaned the carb as it had some dirt and tat time it was fine. But it came back again in a couple of days. Now the problem is very noticable and also there is misfirng sounds like out of sync popping sounds from the silencer esp when i take the bike out after long gap in the week. But the hiccups disappears in higher gears. And there is no problem with the performance at higher speeds and the top speed is also as usual.

Please help me out in what might be the problem.

Thanks for your reply. I am sure there is no water in the tank cos this problem is there for over 2 months, also my sprocket is also good. Even i had a thought of replacing my TPS, will ask the SVC ppl to do it next time.

                  • SVC are in the habit of telling the upper limit while claiming insurance. It won't be 10k....
For insurance, you need to leave your bike at svc, call the insurance people, they will come to the svc and will give you an estimate, how much would be the total bill.
You will pay that money but will get it back in one month via cheque or account transfer

I was riding in curves and suddenly a dog sprung out from a bush...I was in good speed (Maybe around 50 Kmph ) and when I suddenly saw this dog, I tried breaking hard.... but I had already lost my balance.... Luckily the dog managed to escape but my bike skidded off the road and I was sliding on the asphalt...I survived the crash but my bike didn't.
I'm really thankful to the local people who rushed to the crash site and took me to the doctor shop... My shirt was totally ripped off, my both hands and my right shoulder was badly wounded.... The doctor was really a nice guy and treated my wounds and also injected anti tetanus dose...My dad arrived to the doctor shop and took me home and one of my friend who arrived to the crash site rode the bike to my home...
Today I called The TVS Service station and finally a mechanic arrived to my place..I saw the bike today Morning. I was heart broken to see my babe and the damages were as follows...
                        1) Right side Crash Guard was totally bent...crash guard 450 bucks, you buy it over the counter and fix it by yourself
                        2) Headlight dome had lot of scratches on right side...rather than changing that you might want to just go with some stickering..it's just my opinion
                        3) Front right indicator was hanging...this would cost some 250 bucks max
                        4) The meter console was fine but torn off on right side..I'm not sure about this, will be looking forward for any replies on this from others
                        5) The right handlebar was also bent....this 'could' be done on lathe, my bike handle once got bent the SVC guys got it done at a lathe shop..they charged 900 bucks but no perfection. Found out a new one would cost around 1100 bucks, better I'd have ahoy a new one
                        6) The exhaust pipe cover also had lot of scratches...get a new shield or sand paper it and get it painted/powder coated (make a racing flag design)

Im posting the pics but can anybody tell me how do I claim Insurance and what may be the estimated repair cost (The mechanic told me it would cost around some 10K but i feel it might not cost that much). Luckily my helmet saved my life and the crash guard saved my legs but I'm worried about my babe... Shit happens but life goes on! My estimation is 37grand

Can anybody help me?? Thank you.... Sorry for bad english....u speak better than me

Wow. Looks like it's accident season. First me, then huntphani now you. Well. It would cost that much. The headlamp assembly alone costs 2k. The crash guard also another 1.5k. The exhaust spoiler costs 700 bucks. The front fork is obviously bent. Replacing that would cost 5k. Repairing it is around 1.2k.
