Headlamp unit was jerking too much on my way home. Checked it once at home and saw that one nut was gone and the others were loose. The mech who corrected the headlamp clamp seems not to have tightened it properly. Went to the svc and asked for it to be changed as these guys when servicing is supposed to have checked for any loose parts and all. Anyways, got it tightened.

Maintenance free tensioners dont need to adjusting, I think he was checking whether the the guy who previously set the tensioner, had properly unwounded it or not.Originally posted by adityajohanan View PostMy mechanic fiddled with this
Opened it and put a screw driver in the hole
and told me he was adjusting the tension of the cam chain. Apparently the tension in the cam chain cannot be adjusted.
any idea what he might have done.?Motorcycling Experience:

Riding Apparels
If You are in for branded Riding Apparels, I would suggest You a store on JM road, L.A.(Laxmi Automobiles) Riderz zone. You can find Nice and affordable (Rs.3-3.5k) helmets there. The store also has a wide varieties of Riding jackets and gloves and other things, and the Manager is a good guy. You will find it opposite to Shambhaji Park. PM Me if You want any more details.Originally posted by aditya_iyer View PostSo after much thinking & testing both Apache & Dazzler, i have finally brought the new Apache 160 RD 2012 in Red yesterday from Century TVS, Pune & loved every bit of moment when i brought it home ( still haven't gone above 40 considering break-in/running of engine). As i am relatively new to bikes as i recently upgraded from a Scooty Pep to Apache
, Would love to get tips & guidelines on how to maintain the bike till it reaches the 1000km mark, where to get good bike gears like Helmet, gloves & info regarding elbow guards, etc and meet fellow Apachians from Pune.ThanxApache RTR 180 Bike Parts CatalougeOriginally posted by MirhawkI couldn't repair the Brakes, so I just made the Horn more louder!

Actually any oil can be used..The RTR suits all ranges falling in 5W50 grade. & I have been using Shell's FS & have not got any problem of leakage or slippage..Originally posted by Krish1417 View PostTVS oil is 10w30.Can we use Honda Throttle FS 10w30 which is recommended for CBR on our RTR?I have read somewhere that FS oil doesn't suit RTR and might lead to oil leakage and clutch slippage.Anyone used this oil?
Leakage will occur is the packing or sealant is eroded or if the threads of the bolts get worn out.. The oil has no say here.. Regarding the slippage, it does happen when oil is new or when oil old & needs a change.

guys i am in a serious problem..my gear shifting became very hard and i had to use nbrute force to shift gears so i have my bike for servcing at triton motors bangalore. and today he called me and said that the bill might come upto 11-12 thousand i was shocked.he said that there is something wrong with the clutch he has replace it and he also has to open up the engine to see if the engine has got damaged..if the engine is fine then the bill will come upto 4-5 thousand.are those people fleecing money from me?? also i stay in manipal so my bike is in bangalore i dont use it all so i gave it to my friend.is there is a possibity that he has ridden my bike rashly to screw up my engine??? he claims he hasnt and even i am also not a rash rider. my bike is a 2010 nv model RTR180 so if there is an engine problem will be able to claim insurance or warranty??

Your bike is out of warranty, so forget about that.. & you cant claim insurance coz it was not an "accident"..
Are you facing any other problems other than the hard gear shifts..?? To be on the safe side take your bike to another SVC or a mechanic & seek some advice..
Is he planing to change the bikes piston & cylinder with the clutch assembly to charge 11-12k..??

Gear shifts in my RTR too is hard.Hard in the sense that we have to use a little more force than when we do for other bikes.Originally posted by pranav_salieri View Postguys i am in a serious problem..my gear shifting became very hard and i had to use nbrute force to shift gears so i have my bike for servcing at triton motors bangalore. and today he called me and said that the bill might come upto 11-12 thousand i was shocked.he said that there is something wrong with the clutch he has replace it and he also has to open up the engine to see if the engine has got damaged..if the engine is fine then the bill will come upto 4-5 thousand.are those people fleecing money from me?? also i stay in manipal so my bike is in bangalore i dont use it all so i gave it to my friend.is there is a possibity that he has ridden my bike rashly to screw up my engine??? he claims he hasnt and even i am also not a rash rider. my bike is a 2010 nv model RTR180 so if there is an engine problem will be able to claim insurance or warranty??"Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

Greater the difference between cold and hot idle RPM's the leaner you're running. Always keep idle RPM when hot at 1.4~1.5k RPM not lower, and idle RPM when cold at 1.1k. Cause only then the oil pump will be able to adequately circulate oil.Originally posted by adityajohanan View PostI've noticed that my idle rpm when cold and hot is about 0.5 different. When the bike is cold, my idle rpm is 1.4k and when hot it is 2k. I lower my rpm when it gets hot. Any suggestions?Motorcycling Experience:

Does the apache have a fuel screw or an air screw.?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostGreater the difference between cold and hot idle RPM's the leaner you're running. Yes, all carb. bikes have a AF screw adjuster.. Regarding the mixture, you better go to a certified mech. or svc..Originally posted by adityajohanan View PostSo I have to make it a little rich don't i.? Another doubt. Does the apache have a fuel screw or an air screw.?
