I did't yet installed it and I don't know how to open headlight assembly ! Does opening this headlamp assembly easy or should I get SVC guys ?
If I did open it would that void my guarantee ?Originally posted by hemnath View PostCan this be used in APACHE 160 TOO.
i guess the right answer to both the queries would be to stay stock atleast those still under warranty.(u will need the warranty, trust me :P ) if i am right me and shahbaz went on trying out different light sources since we bought the bikes. at last he settled on a 55w philips i guess.. am i right? @shahbaz.
And me went a bit further opting a 35w projector. ( resultant of a reflector burn due to me previous bulb which was a bit on the heavier side 100/90w)
So in short new RTR has a bit of light throw problem, not much of a night riding light power. so if u are planning to go for an upgrade instead of spending money on a 35w white light go for a normal yellowish 55w bulb (NS stock). thats for practical purposes.
if you want both the show and practicality, shaby's way is the way to go i guess. but 600 bucks
And fiting the bulb even though its easy, i would suggest you get the SVC guys or a workshop guy to do it for you,and be sure that the head is tightly secured.Last edited by vishnu.leo; 04-01-2013, 12:40 AM.Just your friendly neighborhood panda. @thebigfatlazypanda

Next thing is I don't want to give more stress to battery that's why I'd stick with 12v 35w one.

Yes ..Originally posted by evyavan View PostYours is a 2012 model RTR, right? 180? You didn't change anything in the electricals to upgrade to 55w, did you?
It's warranty ... And 55w wont make any big difference in your electrical system.... 180 have 9 Amp batteryOriginally posted by Albert Paul View PostFirst of all SVC guy told me that just changing bulb won't void guarantee

Completely agree dude.. 2 days back I almost went off the road and my heart was in my mouth.. So, today I installed projector with xenon lamps in b'lore.. Nd my ride back to home chickballapur(70 kms) in the night was awesome.. I only fear the cops though.. I had to shell out 3.5k+800 labour and 150 for some connector..Originally posted by ashwinprakas View Postas a matter of fact, its a mandatory update, cause the stock bulb is useless at night and if by chance you wear spec's then its pure blindness.Drink Coffee and Drive!!

Yours is ABS model and it has DC setup by default. It also produces around 150W power from the coil where as non-ABS bikes produce a mere 100W or so, just enough for a 35W headlamp. So you dont face any problemsOriginally posted by shahbaz63 View PostIt's warranty ... And 55w wont make any big difference in your electrical system.... 180 have 9 Amp battery
but if I plonk a 55W, everything else like speedo, indicators etc will become dim. Also headlamp brightness will keep fluctuating a lot based on rpm and you dont get the max brightness from it. The RR unit will burn off in sometime
Coil rewinding or DC conversion is a must for reliable headlamp upgrade for non-ABS bikes.
Having higher capacity battery wont help in anyway.Last edited by Adarsh_Bk; 04-02-2013, 10:44 AM.

Could you please explain what all changes or upgrades you made? And will it void warranty?Originally posted by shahbaz63 View PostYes ..
It's warranty ...
And mine is with ABS, and that means I don't have to make any upgrades, right? Am very much afraid to void my warranty.
I remember guys, esp Prateek telling me it's no issue, but I just want to reaffirm it. Also if I buy a 55w one now, I can fit it into a projector set up when I upgrade after one year, right?

You can use 55W bulb directly since it is ABS, no issues. Not sure of warranty though, moreover SVC guys may not realize it is 55W bulbOriginally posted by evyavan View PostAnd mine is with ABS, and that means I don't have to make any upgrades, right? Am very much afraid to void my warranty.

& dont ask shahbaz regarding warranty, he gets special treatment in his SVC
Also it should be possible to use the same bulb in projectors, others who have used projectors can confirm it.

I've been using a Philips 55-60 12w bulb on my Apache RTR 180 Abs for last 6 months now. There have been no issues as such and it was a direct fit. I would suggest you to go for a 55-60 Bulk rather than a 35. The throw of the light improves a lot.
Don't worry as i had changed the lights during my warranty

Changing Bulb wont void your warranty unless you give them chance to do so, never get panic in front of them & never tell them you changed it.
If you will do some performance upgrade then your warranty will get void ( by adding air filters or FFE etc etc)

Ufff all these warranty things
I personally never cared of that.
Now coming to RTR topic...had a deep discussion with few friends, they have given me the idea of getting my White Devil modified to stage3 from KRP(Delhi), instead of going for D200, I found it quite reasonable as it wont cost me more than 20-25k(still waiting for quote from KRP) and which would help me getting a bigger bike little sooner.
P.S : My bike still remains unused due to that sound, battery died too
