Many xbhpians use this oil..In-fact, a CBR250 did 6000km without any problem or drastic drop of oil levels & did not show any signs for an oil change.. I am searching for a ABRO RTV gasket maker & then I'l revert back to shell ultra..
Forget CBR, I have been using the same oil for past 18k kms without issues There was never any oil leak from head but the oil level does drop slightly with time but it never went below the min mark. I usually change this oil at intervals of 4-5k kms. Maybe it can be pushed further but I never tried to

      Lucky you..!!
I filled the Ultra & within 4k km oil leak had started & till now, has not stopped.. & the best part was my friend's RTR just 12.4k km old started leaking away within 200km of filling Ultra.. Or something else must be wrong for the oil to start leaking, may be TVS SVC uses a low quality sealant during a repair(but do they need to open the head to replace a clutch release spring..?)..

Hehe, might be a lucky case but the engine head leak should have happened with other oils too. Maybe it was just a co incidence and gaskets were about to get busted anyways

Clutch release spring and engine head are no way related, I guess those guys wanted to bill you more by charging extra labour.

That clutch spring was a manufacturing defect & was fixed under warranty & it just costed me 1 week.. After that two failure attempts were made to stop the oil leak & the few km between attempts the bike was running on TVS's water based engine oil .. Now found a good mechanic near home & near TVS SVC (for spares) & now need to find ABRO's gasket maker..

Dont know, how reliable the Drive Here Nokia map GPS(Nokia Lumia) is....
Recently measured Speed WRT bike's speedo by taping the phone on the tank..
            these were the results-
            Speedo------GPS
            60----------60
            80----------79
            100---------98
            110---------107
            120---------116
            130---------124

My top speed ever attended was 133 speedo, so GPS might show around 126 kmph. I am 90 kilo. a skinny guy can get around 135 on speedo=> 127 GPS.
Dont know how perfect it is, but true Top speed of RTR is around 127kmph.

Hi friends I am about to book rtr 180 abs. I wanted to know a few things from owners.

Can it be used to do relaxed cruising? I know it's not a cruiser, but still want to know. If yes then at what speed?

At what highest speed I can ride it for extended hours without doing any harm to the engine?

              How disturbing are the vibrations
in the city rides and on the highway?

              Please answer ASAP.

Even I had encountered similar problems like head gasket leakage, oil evaporating issues while using Shell Ultra FS though the oil had improved the refinement of engine by a good margin. There might be some chemicals, additives affecting the gasket material, may be.But such issues had not happened anytime with Shell AX7.

BTW,its been ages since I last updated here though I was in touch with the thread.I have changed the block piston on my RTR.Will be back with an update soon and join you people with the discussions.

Btw, I have refered to all four of your DIYs in your signature so many times (have saved all of them in my PC actually), so yes, a big thanks from my side!

Good decision I would say, that too with ABS, it becomes a very safe package overall.

Most of us here do all kinds of riding on our RTRs, so yes it can easily cruise at speeds of 80-100kmph & if you are that kind of guy who wants adrenaline to be pumped all the time, then you simply sit with the throttle locked to maximum & keep riding at 110-120+ kmph

AFAIK, if the bike is properly maintained & serviced at regular intervals, there shoud be no harm to engine when riding at 80+kmph non stop for couple of hours or more. For eg, our group of seven RTRs were able to cover 270kms in 3hr 20min on four lane highway from Salem to Blore, that too with a couple of 10 min breaks, so you do the math (I dont encourage anyone to ride like this, this is just an example of how robustly RTR is built. Please ride at speeds you are comfortable with).

Vibrations are again more of a personal feel, some like it and some dont. It is manageable and it is slightly lesser in newer models. Using riding gloves will help you a lot in reducing vibes Why dont you take a proper test ride and experience it yourself? That should make it clear.

This depends on a lot of things like are you willing to replace the head as well, if not then the stroke should be equal for both the bikes, the piston design should match else it might hit the valves and even then the crank shaft would need to be strengthened. You would need higer lift camshaft if you don't change the head as smaller valves with the stock cam won't provide the required flow. More air would be required for the new setup plus more fuel, for which you might use a bigger jet.
All this and much more like you need to advance or retard the spark firing depending on the mood of the engine after the mod, the compression might be too much in the end and even if all of it finally falls into place it still won't be very reliable.

Took up a similar mod job of converting my pulsar 150 classic to a 180. All went fine and the bike ran well with the bottom end torque that would even show a birdie to the big pulsar 200 and 220's. You are riding sane and suddenly if you wring the throttle it had a wild tendency of lifting its front In the air. Was a wheelie machine man. Though the setup lasted for 5k kms only.

Yes ..But some mods will be required.I have seen pics of RTR's for touring modified with handlebars which look like splendors.
@all My bike's vibrations have reduced after plonking in 15t setup with r15 rear tyre.
My commuting speed is usually at 55-70 range in top gear which was the rpm at max vibrations for rtr..Now vibes seems to reduced drastically.
It is also possible that vibes have shifted to a higher speed range..!
"Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

                            Hi,

First of all you have to bear in mind that by modifying your current set up you are changing what has been designed, tested and sold in markets with a company warranty.
Any expectation of mods exceeding stock in reliability and trouble-free ownership experience should not be entertained.

I have modified my RTR 180 twice from Race Concepts and got the Engine + Head work, Exhaust and racing carburettor, both times riding down Bangalore on my bike
My bike performed like a wonder for quite some times but then the rest of the parts need to keep up with the extra wear and tear.
Also the difference in climate played havoc on fuelling settings leaving me experimenting with my mechanic in consultation with Joel almost every weekend.
Initially it was exciting to trouble shoot various symptoms and learn new things but later I realised I was spending more time in the workshop and less on the road.

Also a couple of breakdowns on rides really put me off to "experimenting" any more and made me go back to stock set-up.

I know a lot of guys have good experiences with modifications on their bike, sadly I'm not one of them.

Long story short: If you want to go the Mod way, don't look back, do it in stages and keep evaluating how much is too much.

and lastly upgrade your gear and skills as you upgrade in power and torque!

Guys, I wanna share my happy moment with all Apache riders Guess what? I got my Apache RTR 180 in white color (old model) delivered yesterday. Just enjoying every moment with it

First thing i changed in my bike is I got rid of rear TVS tire and replaced it with a MRF zapper C. Sold the TVS tire for 1000 bucks, is that a reasonable price? It was 14 KM in odo when i sold the TVS tire.

Also, i feel rear brake is not effective. TVS ASC mechanic and sales person said that it will improve as the mileage increase, is it so? Other Apache riders, please comment. I test rode one more brand new RTR 180 even in that i felt the brake catch is same as mine.
