Congratulation! welcome to the tribe. Both the tires & brakes needs "breaking in" just like the engine. Just in case you can re asure yourself by checking the brake fluid level. Ride safe.

Welcome back..!
Now I'v heard of three bike which leak from the head gasket & which use the Shell Ultra.. It is confirmed that an unknown chemical(s) destroys the head gasket..
What did you do the leak.??I'm really desperate to get the leak fixed, after many failed attempts.. Changing the gasket & getting the engine bolts re-threaded were not at all effective..

First thing i changed in my bike is I got rid of rear TVS tire and replaced it with a MRF zapper C. Sold the TVS tire for 1000 bucks, is that a reasonable price? It was 14 KM in odo when i sold the TVS tire.

Also, i feel rear brake is not effective. TVS ASC mechanic and sales person said that it will improve as the mileage increase, is it so? Other Apache riders, please comment. I test rode one more brand new RTR 180 even in that i felt the brake catch is same as mine.
Congrats on the bike & the new tyre..!!
I hate to say this but that TVS ASC mech is right.. The brakes are hydraulic type & they are supposed to behave the same on all RTRs & there is no "adjustment" which can be done but the condition of the pad varies from bike to bike & braking efficiency varies..Follow the conditions for run-in & your bike will be fine..

Congrats on your bike and welcome to the club! You made a wise decision by replacing the tyre to MRF.
As the brake pads are new,it will take some time for them to bed-in.Log on few kms and you will notice the braking response to be improving.Do follow the running-in procedure religiously, increase the speed gradually, dont ride at a constant rpm(vary the speed) and use lot of engine braking in running-in phase.

I had replaced the gasket kit after that the leakage stopped. There should be no oil leakage if the head bolts are tightened with proper torque and the head cover oil seal is fitted properly. One thing I would mention is the stock 'head cover' bolts are quite 'brittle' and the quality is not acceptable.I have seen a lot of Apaches with re threading work needed at TVS svcs.In case if the bolts are tightened with too much force, next time it sure break the bolt while opening it.I have changed the head cover stock bolts with allen bolts, quite good quality ones.

BTW,i want to know the correct setting for the TPS switch. At yellow ring on WOT,the bike somewhat lags. The TVS people said the setting must be such that on WOT the yellow ring is not visible and lie between black and yellow ring(they had been instructed the same at TVS training sessions). With this setting the bike gets good initial pick up bt the refinement is compromised, the spark gets advanced and engine gets rough.I have seen few RTRs with this setting.Would be good if a few members who had recently bought the bike notice the setting and report here.

Complete treatment for the bike today,

New clutch plates installed. Also got the clutch cables changed.
Faulty clutch bell replaced. (350/- for lathe work & new spare)
Motul 300V 15W50, trying out for first time.
New swingarm bushes installed. (200/- for lathe work & new bushes)
New coneset installed. (380/- for new coneset)
New DOT4 brake fluids.

All this done at my mech Sohail's garage. Total amount came close to 1600/- including some other spares + labour charge which I consider is very decent for the quality of work he does.

And the result? The bike has become smoother than it ever was! Redline has no vibes too so you dont want to change gears at all Also stalled the bike many times in first gear due to completely new behaviour of bike (due to new clutch plates). Have to get used to it now.

Diesel wash in progress.

I thought my bike was doing fine before service & now I know it wasnt even close to being fine

ODO reading is 24k+ kms. I also reverted back to stock carburettor and stock filter. The bigger carb seemed good initially but the instability at sub 3k rpm was causing lot of problems and also the simota conical filter doesnt even come close to stock in terms of air filtration, so keeping reliability in mind, simota is safely kept inside the cupboard for now!

I have always adjusted it such that the yellow ring just visible at WOT. This is the correct setting AFAIK.
But I also had to change TPS twice till now, most probably because it gets clogged inside with dirt and the sensing mechanism fails to switch the ignition at right time. No amount of adjusting the TPS helped at both those situations. I am sure this is the case with yours, buy a new one (should be around 120/-) and see the difference yourself

Congrats bro! I still remember the day I got my bike, man I was so happy! Didnt want to do anything other than ride the bike or look at it or just clean the imaginary dust lying here and there ;D

You couldve tried to get more for your tyre since the new one costs around 2k, but now is not the time to worry! Just enjoy riding it

hi guyz..recently i found out that oil is leaking a bit. Actually its happening near the oil filling point. I dont know what actually its called.
The oil-level checker is in tightened position only. Still cant understand what is the reason for this. @vivekgautams, @Drifty had feced these things.
Guess what even I'm using Shell oil. But not the Fully synthetic one.
I'm using AX7 i.e. semi-synthetic 10w40 grade.
Im seeing this issue from today onwards. First I thought it was mud due to rain & water logged on the roads in bangalore. But on further cross-check I confirmed its oily stuff around the knob & the shade it has left is something like kind of overflowing. But its definetly not that.
Now my concern is I'm planning for a trip to Shimoga Jog falls next month.
As of now going alone. I hope this wont be a hindrance to my trip. Anyway due for service & oil change. SO will get it done next week.
By that time is this something I need to be really worried about???
Adarsh_Bk Whats the cost of clutch plates?? I hope the price is somewhat the same for RTR-160 also.

^^First, remove the gauge oil level (oil dip stick) and clean the area well where oil is seen leaked out (without dirt/grim going inside the engine) and fit it back. Check again if oil leak is there after a ride.

The gauge oil level has an o-ring installed right under the cap on top of the threads for that secure and tight fit. Check if it is damaged or if it is still there. If needed, you can buy one and fit as it comes as a separate component.

You may check the Throttle Position Switch/Sensor (TPS). A red box bolted on to the right side of the chassis. The fuel tank needs to be removed to access it. One end of the throttle cable is connected to the TPS. If a TPS is malfunctioning, incorrect signals (throttle input readings) will be send to the TCI, which would result in engine hiccups at low rpm's and a lot of exhaust popping when throttle rolled off (the sound you've mentioned). TPS can either be cleaned or replaced (which i think is better as it cost's within 200 INR). Get it done at a SVC.
@ rtrlover i checked the tps and every thing(TPS) but i couldn't fix it. after these works i checked the small air flow pipe from cylinder assembly, if i close the pipe then there is no bob bob sound. i checked the vacuum pump also but no problem with that. i don't know what to do? authorized tvs mechanics also confused by this issue. anybody help please

Using the setting with yellow ring on WOT. Afaik that's the only setting in which the throttle and TPS sensors move together from the start of opening of throttle to the end.
That how it should be IMO.
If we have other setting the throttle or TPS could move before the other.
Which would be like tracking the throttle position from point B rather than A.

I was thinking to purchase a ABRO RTV gasket maker & applying it instead of using the TVS's gasket.. A mechanic of Royal Enfield told me that once the gasket is removed(for repair work), a new rubber gasket will not be effective because microscopic surface imperfections are present & RTV is the most effective as they cover up the imperfections..Should I give the RTV a shot?
Regarding the head bolts.. If I were to replace them..Where could I purchase them from? & how much would they cost?

Bro, nothing to worry, my bike was leaking from the dip stick area as well .. The Idiots in TVS SVC have no sense of torque & show their strength in tightening nuts & bolts..They over tightened the dipstick as well & the threads on the stick were completely damaged.. I'm guessing the same thing has happened to your bike as well.. Get the dipstick replaced & just inspect and make sure that the mechanics have not cracked the crank case..This cannot be caused by the shell oil.. While on long rides its always safe to keep a sealed bottle of engine oil of the same grade..

It won't be the TPS at fault if it's just exhaust popping while throttle rolled-off and NO jerks/hiccups from the engine while riding constantly at 40-50km/hr. I've mentioned that on my post for you.

You can check the following:

1. Check the carburetor. Clean it thoroughly especially all the jets.

2. Check the air filter. The foam should not be damp. If clogged with dirt, clean it well.

3. Change the fuel pump from where you usually re-fuel and try another one with good customer reputation.

4. If you've ridden for more than 10,000-15,000 kms with the present spark plug, try replacing it. Stock plug is BOSCH UR5DDC - twin electrode.

Ride safe
