W50 grade is most wanted here (for Pulsar's, Duke, Ninja 250R etc.) and that might be the reason.
I wanted to use this oil, but since it is now not available had to stick with Shell AX7.
Owner's in the Karizma thread are using Valvoline SS 10W40 and are quite happy with it.I searched for that oil in the net, but could not find any info. Can anyone confirm, is it available?

After a good service my RTR ran for some 300km or less..The bike was normal & pick up, acceleration was very normal..After I changed to Shell Ultra 10W40,did around 40km & the bike was feeling a bit sluggish & a few more kms the bikes speed would drop down while ascending slopes..& some times on a highway when I was doing 90s & when the road would incline the bike's rmp would drop & eventually the speed would drop to 70s..

After riding for 800km(approx) on the FS ,bike was better on inclines & sluggish had decreased automatically(I did nothing to the bike, not even a wash)..

Now after another service, the bike is amazing, actually smoother & better gear shifts..No sluggishness what so ever..(Totally 1.4k km done on the F.S oil)

I spoke to a few mechanics & even read a post in the Engine oil thread,That F.S & a non recommended engine oil grade would make bikes sluggish(as mechanical energy produced is wasted on splashing the oil (high viscosity oil) from the sump to the end reaches of the crank/cylinder head..) & the reason for the automatic restoration of performance, is that the oils slowly(slower in F.S than mineral) lose their viscosity..
Well this was my personal experience & this might not happen with all RTRs...

                  • Some of my friends have used Valvoline SS 20w40 in their RTR's and have given excellent rating to the oil. Right now I'm using Motul SS 15w50 and very satisfied with it. Still in my next oil change I would opt for Valvoline SS 20w40. Because I heard so much good about it

                      motul 5100 10w40

Hey the recommended grade for RTR is 20W40, if so then 15W50 should be good right, as it can cool down the bike at high revs since its 50 and not 40 also 15w should idle for cold start. Correct me if i am wrong.

Actually now recommended grade is 10W30 (Tru4 Premium is 10W30)

10W30 is too thin an oil for the RTR180. Stick to xW40 or xW50. And those using FS/SS oil, do regular oil level checks.

                            • I think people living in north can enjoy 10w30 more then people living in south - due to weather condition

                              • Hi,

I have completed my 1st service at 650kms for my RTR 160, the bike has ran 1000 kms now.I am planning to clean my bikes chain every 350 kms, as it is raining every morning the bike chain is getting dirty easily.

I have shortlisted 2 products for chain lubricants

                                1) OKS 451 Chain lube
                                2) TVS Chain lubricant TRU Spray.

Can you guys recommended which is better and VFM.

Also can i use kerosene or diesel to clean the chain or can any recommended products for cleaning

Note: Motul chain cleaner & lube is out of reach as it cost around 1000rs.
