Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Donno where to start with, i consider Sibun, pinaki and others as my gurus. I hail from chennai and need guidance to restore my 2004 CD dawn, 60k on the odometer.
I have been following this thread for the past 2 years. Need guidance to tune from all the gurus to tune my bike which gives 68-70 kmpl. I feel the compression is light. Have cleaned the air filter myself having printouts from the thread. Any heads up would be deeply appreciated to improve the bike's mileage. I am a huge fan guys and feel deeply connected to post my first query here.

AFAIK, 68-70kmpl is more than decent mileage for a Dawn.Originally posted by karthikchandraraju View PostDonno where to start with, i consider Sibun, pinaki and others as my gurus. I hail from chennai and need guidance to restore my 2004 CD dawn, 60k on the odometer.

If you are getting this mileage and you don't see any drop in oil level you need not worry I think.

50 kmpl seems quite low for splender plus.
How much turn out the air screw now.please post the images of spark plug.It will help a little bit. Before tuning ensure the carburetor and air filter are well cleaned. Also ensure the spark plug is in good condition. How much the bike cover now?.Last edited by ranjithp; 04-18-2017, 09:52 PM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Something very sad happened today with my bike. I have decided to check my engine oil after a long time and it was quite sometime to flex my muscles as well
I call this workout. I checked the odaometer, it was at 60370 and with the help of pliers i opened up to check the engine oil and was shocked to see the dip stick was completely dry. Two thoughts came to my mind quickly.
1. Don't call yourself an engineer cuz you don't even know to recognize the sound of your own bike which didn't have engine oil
2. I love my bike, for the sole reason that inspite of the abuse i give her, she returns me a humble 67 kmpl
First thing i got money from mom and got checked all the engine oil and finalised on Motul 3000T (something like). Saw good reviews for the oil in amazon and other websites.
Took the bike to mechanic and had a casual word with the assistant boy of my usual mechanic. I told him i changed the engine oil during Aug/September 16' but the oil got vanished in 6 months. Then i spotted him few areas near the sprocket where there was visible oil leak. He quickly said 'Give for a water wash, and after 2 days we will see where the leak is coming from' . He said either there is a leak from the sprocket or the leak is from oil seal. I thought 'Quite an idea' and meanwhile he was replacing the engine oil and was about to leave and the my mechanic came. I told the mechanic about the oil change for a 6 month old bike. He asked how much oil was left over to the assistant and he said 'around 200 ml' . Now the mechanic raises the throttle violently and faint black smoke comes out. The one work that broke my heart 'We need to rebore'
He said it'll cost around 5000 bucks and he will replace everything as a set. My mind wasn't listening to what all he said as my heart broke. He was using words like 'Rebore' , , 'Piston', 'Gasket','Clutch Plate'. I intervened and said 'If we are going to touch engine then we are gonna replace related parts as well' as i was pretty much sure that i have not spent anything big on her except replacing the front fork 6 months back. Now since this sounded like an overhaul, my heart was aching big that i have to touch my beloved's engine.
I was very specific to him that if we are gonna replace the engine it has to be USHA original and no duplicate has to be put on her(thanks to pinaki, sibun & others on the forum to educate me on this), mechanic was quick to apprehend my statement that 'USHA original does come' . With a big heart i left the place. And i got the same old smoothness from her due to the engine oil replacement. One word 'Butter smooth' i have misses this ride quality all these days and without even knowing the engine grunt i have been abusing her in Chennai 40 degree's heat and yet she kept me safe and sound in all these years, well 12 years to be precise. The entire ride to office was a connect with her, the smoothness and refinement of an honda engine when filled with engine oil and the ride quality and the way she handles and the pick up. God, i am love with her again. God Bless Honda for creating such an engine. Before reaching office i realized what the Mechanic's assistant said to me. 'Anna, even if you don't put oil, it'll keep on running'. I know that's not possible but such is the reliability of 2004 Honda engine.
Need advice from the forum's guru on my bike.

You can select that way if the connecting rod is in good condition. If clutch has no problem just leave it now . Replace when it makes problems. If you done that job then power of bike will increase. If timing chain makes noise then replace it. Other wise just leave it replace when it start to make noise. While doing the job, replace the valve and seals with a lapping job. Replace the cylinder kit with usha or orginal .Originally posted by karthikchandraraju View PostI need to talk to my mechanic again, i am running a little on budget. Will suggest him on what if i just replace the cylinder kit only. Thanks much for the suggestion mate.
Do not go for rebore.

Remove the split pin ,spring on left side of stand pin and tap the pin by putting a hard wooden piece or plastic on it . You have to remove the silencer to get the pin completely out.while removing you can use wd 40 or zorric 88 on pin for make the easy.Originally posted by dumb0 View PostPlease suggest a way to remove / replace the rusted Pin and main stand from splendor. Thanks to all.

Nothing special.while installing kick oil seal use a little oil on hole for enter the kick shaft. It will help to avoid dry moving of kick seal on kik shaftOriginally posted by ybedekar View PostMy kick oil seal started leaking. Planning to change it. Any special care is need. Last time when i changed it was not able to put spring for oil seal in.
So just pressed it.

I am planning to go a clutch replacement once i visibly see the condition of the clutch and yes i am skeptical on the clutch replacement since this is 60K kms run original clutch and i believe the power transmission from clutch isn't original but i am quite firm that it doesn't need a replacement. Gotta see it to believe it. As advised gonna replace timing chain, valve and seal. And heck it's gonna be a USHA made cylinder kit. Planning to do the overhaul this weekend. I am a bit sad that i feel like opening my beloved's heart.Last edited by karthikchandraraju; 04-25-2017, 05:11 PM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
The mechanic gave the bike yesterday with a bill of Rs.8500/-. Replaced bore, clutch, piston, most of the engine parts if i remember. The old clutch were totally kaput, it was replaced as well. The first drive for 30kms was pretty rough, my mechanic warned me that it will be rough since this is a new engine and this is how it will be for the next thousand kms, asked me not to go beyond 60kmph.
The drive just drives like a charm and was little rough, to be specific the roughness was so evident while driving it did feel like i was driving a very brand new bike but there was a smoothness that can only be felt while driving. The harsh engine noise made me think if i have to replace the spark plug and during my evening walk i found a bike store around my in-laws place, and i was very specific about the bosch spark plug (U4A). I was still confused if the engine noise had something to do with the spark plug, there was a gut feeling that i should replace the spark plug. Bought one and opened the spark plug and the mechanic had put a NGK spark plug, though i have read a lot about this i wasn't sure if NGK was the culprit behind the noise. I had replaced and started the bike and the sound was a low hum, and gut was correct indeed. One word to describe the sound was Smooth and refined. With the engine sound becoming refined i was 100% sure that the drive to office was gonna be butter smooth. The next day took the bike to the office for a brief 30kms and the engine smoothness was so so evident and fell in love with my bike again. Was listening to the honda hum and i felt like driving a brand new bike from the showroom. Was very nostalgic as the same feeling what i felt when i bought the bike before 12 years filled my head the entire drive. Reached office and had decided to adjust the Air fuel screw myself as i felt the A/F ratio was on the higher side. Adjusted the A/F ration to my liking.
Earlier I was a bit skeptical whether to buy a new bike under exchange, now I have made my mind that I am gonna keep her for the next 15 yrs if that’s what it takes. After all these years my bike made me realize the value of retaining old things. Though I have abused her badly at times, she had always kept me safe and sound. I am beginning to get attached over my bike and I feel this relationship is gonna last forever. Even though my bike was with the mechanic for 4 days, I missed so badly and terribly. I made a point to visit almost everyday and the moment I saw her shining when i received the word ‘Sir, Bike is ready. You can take it whenever you want’ was unexplainable. I had forged a solidly built bike which I myself had thought ‘This isn’t gonna last long with my driving skills’ . It was worth spending every penny on her. This is probably the best phase of my life.
