Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Hi Friends,
I Bought a elderly friend's Hero Honda CD Dawn in 2014. The Bike Model is 2005. The Bike when i bought nothing was in great condition except engine.(Engine case was having a oil dust of almost a Inch). Serviced from a local service person for 1st time as soon as i bought but the bike had too many issues which were not fixed (Starting problem, Chain sprocket,Wheel bend, Tyres, Battery, headlight) Everything I replaced in a time of 6 month - 1 Year. So One by one i kept changing and after few services the bike became to awesome condition. But Mileage was only 50 Km/L
After one year of usage around in 2016. 2nd Gear was started slipping and was unable to ride for long. So immediately when i checked with the Mechanic he told the if 2nd gear will be replaced the problem will solved, so i too said okay and charged me around 2100 Rs with spares and service.
So the bike got back to great condition as before.
But after 7-8 Months (2017 Starting) the 3rd gear started slipping and as it was not giving much trouble still am able to ride with the same problem. But from few months the comfort of riding has completely lost in terms of Mileage , Pickup and comfort.
So when i spoke to my friend a mechanic he said if you replace a individual gear once again the problem might reoccur in undefined time. so he insisted to replace all four gears. And he also suggested that instead of doing this will get a second's Gear assembly and fit that which will reduce the effort and risk.
So now problems i feel in the bike presently are.
1) 3rd Gear Slipping
2) Milage Currently the mileage is less than 50 Km/L
3) Pickup is reduced.
4) Back Shock absorbsers are in worse condition which is creating too much physical stress to body.
5) Front and Back break pads are changed regularly but they make so much noise every time. Tyres are just 20000 Kms driven.
So Now i have thought to get a end to end service for this. please give your suggestions to what all to be done.
The bike odometer was not in working condition my friend said the Engine rebore is not done and said approximately 1,25,000 KM's the was driven. So after i bought the odometer is corrected I have driven 25000 KMs so Almost 150000 KM's.
There is no smoke or any kind of excess oil burning signs in bike.
So now please help me to understand what has to be done to get best

Thanks friends.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
The cone set racers have gone in my bike. It was changed less than 3 months ago at around 57,000 kms on the odo. I bought the Hero genuine one. Cost around 350 rupees + labour charges 100 rupees. Completely disappointed by the quality of spares by Hero. After discussing with experts here, I'm going to buy SKF bearings. So, I request members not to buy mechanical parts from Hero spares. Instead buy directly from the supplier from whom Hero buys spares from.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Hello to everyone.
Mechanic says that rear brake drum has to be replaced in my super splendor 2005(spoke) model after inspection. The edge of the rear brake drum (around 6mm) i.e. around the open loop is not shinning like the rest of the inner part of the drum. The bike has run around 70K km. Front one is good for 4K more km as per mechanic.
Please let me know if brake drum needed to be changed after certain interval. The bite of the brakes are good even now. Is it like on hard braking it might not work sometime???
I have gone throughout this thread but did not find discussion on brake drum replacement?
What should be the condition for brake drum change?
BTW, Will 55/60 w bulb work on this model without altering anything? Even after changing complete headlight assembly with new philips 35w bulb and new rectifier there is no change in the intensity of light . There is almost no visibility. Please suggest what to do to get brighter light.Last edited by dppatel1226; 10-25-2017, 04:55 PM.

Check your accelerator cable for free play on accelerator grip .If there is no free play and cable is tight then idle will rise.
Ensure your slide is installed in proper way .The cable notch must be in right side.if you installed to left side the slide will up so it result an high idle. Also check the slide whether jammed or not.
Check carburetor insulator and airscrew oring for air leak. if there is air leak then the idle will increase.

Dear Ranjit,Originally posted by ybedekar View PostThanks Rajith I will check these points.
I checked all the points listed by you. Still no much progress. I have one possibility left. regarding routing of accelerator cable. In the CD DAWN on the left side below the tank there is tool/utility box fixed by screws.
accelerator cable should be on left side or right side of this box fitted to chassis. If it is on the right (my current case) my be pulling cable more than required.
Please advise.

I checked all the points listed by you and found OK. Changed insulator & Air screw O ring also. Still no major progress.
I just need to ask that in CD Dawn, below the tank there is Utility box/ Tool box (plastic black color) fixed by bolts to chassis.
Cable should be on left side or right side of this fixing. If if is on right side (my case) it will definitely create tension on cable specifically if handle is turned to left.
Can you let me know on routing of cable.

Re: Hero Honda CD 100 Electrical wooes
It seems this CD 100 electrical acting up
due to some unknown fault sometimes the horn, indicator and head light works as expected but sometimes they work as there is no battery. battery is topped up and charged in workshop quite a few times last year. and vehicle is not stationary for longer period. Although battery is aging the fault might be in the wiring harness or grounding. Wiring Harness is 27 years old and have suffered quite a bit with Mechs cutting and joining ends. RR Unit was changed few years ago but the wiring connector to RR unit is in bad shape same as Grounding connector.
Is it a bad battery or bad Grounding or a EOL wiring harness ?

I tried everything and then visited a road side shop. Young mechanic there solved this problem in minuted at price of Rs 10.
He just removed a nut fitted on the accelerator cable metallic portion connecting to handle (part which is threaded). He removed nut making outer cable shorter by 5-6mm as it can screw in more. Finally problem solved.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
People I need to add a dual tone setup in my bike as the van drivers have become in pain in my ass nowadays, so please tell me which relay to add I asked from a nearby mechanic he told me the relay would cost Rs60 and I am also thinking to retain the original relay and horn and add a single horn and to remove the setup before going to service Centre to avoid warranty issues. Alternator rating is 115 kw @5000 rpm, will it affect the battery performance or will it cause any issues.
