Super splendor engine is shared with Honda shine.

      Hi Friends,

I Bought a elderly friend's Hero Honda CD Dawn in 2014. The Bike Model is 2005. The Bike when i bought nothing was in great condition except engine.(Engine case was having a oil dust of almost a Inch). Serviced from a local service person for 1st time as soon as i bought but the bike had too many issues which were not fixed (Starting problem, Chain sprocket,Wheel bend, Tyres, Battery, headlight) Everything I replaced in a time of 6 month - 1 Year. So One by one i kept changing and after few services the bike became to awesome condition. But Mileage was only 50 Km/L

After one year of usage around in 2016. 2nd Gear was started slipping and was unable to ride for long. So immediately when i checked with the Mechanic he told the if 2nd gear will be replaced the problem will solved, so i too said okay and charged me around 2100 Rs with spares and service.

So the bike got back to great condition as before.

But after 7-8 Months (2017 Starting) the 3rd gear started slipping and as it was not giving much trouble still am able to ride with the same problem. But from few months the comfort of riding has completely lost in terms of Mileage , Pickup and comfort.

So when i spoke to my friend a mechanic he said if you replace a individual gear once again the problem might reoccur in undefined time. so he insisted to replace all four gears. And he also suggested that instead of doing this will get a second's Gear assembly and fit that which will reduce the effort and risk.

So now problems i feel in the bike presently are.

      1) 3rd Gear Slipping
      2) Milage Currently the mileage is less than 50 Km/L
      3) Pickup is reduced.
      4) Back Shock absorbsers are in worse condition which is creating too much physical stress to body.
      5) Front and Back break pads are changed regularly but they make so much noise every time. Tyres are just 20000 Kms driven.

So Now i have thought to get a end to end service for this. please give your suggestions to what all to be done.

The bike odometer was not in working condition my friend said the Engine rebore is not done and said approximately 1,25,000 KM's the was driven. So after i bought the odometer is corrected I have driven 25000 KMs so Almost 150000 KM's.

There is no smoke or any kind of excess oil burning signs in bike.

So now please help me to understand what has to be done to get best
      @sibun @Pinaki @shoeb2015 Please help.

      Thanks friends.

Can antyone please give suggestion on this.

Sometimes getting piecemeal repairs from local mechanic can be more costly in the long run . My humble opinion is to take the bike to nearest Hero service and ask them to inspect it throughly and get an estimate .
        1) 3rd Gear is the most used gear atleast on my Splendor you can't ignore it .
        2) Milage may vary between 55kmpl and 65kmpl depending on riding conditions .
        3) ....
        4) Back Shock absorbers can be reconditioned , but best to replace them .
        5) While replacing brake pads use the new (lower priced) Hero pads . Clean brake system , lubricate the cams and install properly . I have a diy on this topic in this thread only ... Also check the condition of the brake drum lining . https://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcy...tml#post887366

A few weeks before i did a 330 km ride to nagercoil. Got drenched in heavy rains 4 times and got dried completely after getting drenched. Took me 9 hours for the journey. The bike performed well even in that rains.

Sharing some pics of the onward ride.

Will post the return ride later.

Pinaki ji, I have bought makino clutch plate and steel plate , ASK break pads...

Last month when I spoke to hero showroom guy he told complete overhaul is required which he roughly quoted 12000₹

But when I and my friend calculated most of the spares for engine overhaul comes around 5000 and my friend is a good reliable mechanic... So my question is if I want to change 3rd gear do I need to change complete gear assembly with new gears (1,2,3,4) or just the problem ones...

I am still running my bike on ASK brake pads which are quite good and served well . They are due for change soon and I have got the new Hero brakes shoes for that .
You do not need to change the whole gear set , only the ones that are damaged , plus any other damaged parts . This can only be found when you open and inspect the parts .
Rs 12000 is very high for an engine overhaul . Did they include parts other than the engine for replacement too ?

Jeswin, you should take more photos and log your trips in the Tourer section. What is your usual cruising speed on the highway?

                  Friend,
In my knowledge , only the 2nd and 3rd gears are slip for a 4 speed gearbox.
While changing the gears . Tell the mech to inspect all the gears , gear fork and gear dog.while replacing a gear from one shaft also try to replace its opposite gear on 2nd shaft.

The return ride. As usual, it started raining when I started the ride at 2 p.m. Bike got covered with slush. Somewhere around Tirunelveli, the sun came up and gave some much needed warm light. After 6 p.m it started raining intermittently and I got drenched and dried several times. Covered around 200 kms in that weather. Then came 10 p.m. The wind was cold as ice. 130km more to go. The road was completely wet due to rains. My fingers, body went numb. I could literally feel my bones shivering. 40 kmph was impossible due to the cold breeze. Somehow, at 11.30 p.m, took the diversion to palani. I was crawling at 30kmph since i was shivering like anything. When I reached a place called Sempatti, 2 policemen stopped me. They asked where I worked, asked me to show the driver's licence, insurance and RC book. I showed all to them. Still the constable asked money. I was in no mood to talk or argue with him. Gave him a 10 rupees and he went!! Again crawled at that speed and reached my workplace at 1.30 a.m. Quite a day it was. Sharing some pictures. Did not take many photos since it was raining most of the time. Finally, 320 kms was completed successfully.

                        Hi,
I would like to know whether fitting Iridium spark plug will make any improvement on my Splendor ismart bike. At current scenario bike pickup is not so good so i want faster acceleration with less hickups.

Nope! Iridium plugs don't work on smaller bikes. They offer something like 1-2% improvement that can generally be noticed on superbikes only. What you need is carb cleaning and tuning of air fuel ratio.

What would be the cause for low pickup? Bike feels stressed after reaching speed of 50km/h it feels like it dont want to go beyond that.

Tire pressure, wrong carb settings, clutch plates, bad sprockets, old engine oil, dusty air filter.
