All the parts are available at a spares shop, including a new crank. If I buy them the mechanic friend will do the job in front of me at his small workshop. But he is not what we will call an expert. He will definitely not have specialized tools like puller for removing crank shaft. Will this guy be enough or will it be better to go the A.S.S, at the cost of a few thousands more?

Why do you need a crankshaft puller ?

      • ^^I thought it should be removed only by a puller. Or perhaps that will not be necessary if we are going to replace the crankshaft?

My worry is whether this fellows engine reassembly will, even with complete new parts, be perfect.

This engine is very simple and easy to work with, few special tools are required which are easily available and are so cheap that even roadside mechanics have it.
It is very common sight to see mechanics doing a overhaul on footpaths just in front of spare parts shops in Hyderabad.

Beware , most of these imported stuff available here is counterfeit . You can find Cyclo brand carb-cleaner in any good motorcycle/car accessories shop .

Yes this puny magnet can't produce so much power to feed the bulb, i'll try for any possibility. Certain test are required.

Nowadays I rarely visit them for service (and don't have to push my broken bike to their shop ever) and they are not happy about that too .
                    I too suffered a lot....
There was a time when I felt so angry with my bike that it forced me to kick my bike with my leg, but i cant do, i even feel cry many times (because of some situations, it was a long story i cant tell u) and all the faults were gone to mechanics..
So, i was learning there before and after by looking them how they do the work...and so how i did started the work doing by own in a more better way.
I was not having a manual book & Internet connection from so many years, so i was not able to come across some various things.
Firstly, i learned a lot from google. Secondly, few months back i got a manual book of my bike, my father given me, somewhere it was (i thought i'm dont having it) & when I read that I come across some of the new things, and i did a valve clearance first time of my own there was no clearance before & now the compression & pickup increased.
After all, doing things by own, i very rarely go to mechanics. I'm very happy with my bike performance. Some mechanics have checked driving my bike and they remarked as excellent . But there are few more things I need to know which will help me better understand how my bike works to apply the correct solution to the minor things at the right time.

                        panic mode

reality check: how much power you can get from magneto? if it is rated for 40-50W, you cannot use it to power 100W load and get "full brightness". (if you can, you would solve energy crisis and become wealthiest man on planet)

This was the answer to you in another forum."As energy can not be made or destroyed ,it can only be changed from one form to another.",

"Every thing in this world has limitations". (This gives the real beauty)

Qualified and intelligent engineers have designed the bike that you have. They have appropriated the total power available(~8 Kw) for the like 1. traction 2. control 3.lighting 4.horn etc.If they give more power to lighting traction part has to come down, which you may not like .So optimum values to all are decided and designs done.
Over enthusiasm for mod. will be detrimental in the long run.

Doing routine maintenance by self is o.k.. gives happiness and confidence. Stop at it.

                        Some points for your considerations.

100watts bulb produces 3 times more heat than stock 35 w bulb. the stock head light set made of plastic will not stand for long, along with it the wires inside will melt and a short circuit will result and/or accompanied by fire . Mind you petrol is highly inflammable is near in your tank and the safety will be compromised.

The long and short of it is, these Mods are not only illegal but dangerous also.

For your academic interest."Increasing the mag.power and winding with thicker and /or super conducting wires you can get more power ".This is possible but not desirable.
"work for cause n not for applause". "live life 2 express n not 2 impress" ."dont strive to make ur presences noticed, just make ur absence felt".

You can ask the same shops that stock the Cyclo engine-flush to get you the other Cyclo products like carb-cleaner or brake&parts cleaner etc . Tip - They would do that quickly if you pay them say Rs50 in advance . It is a good product from Cyclo usa , tied up with Pidilite India(fevicol) here .

Many thanks to your pestering with the air-filter cleaning method , I finally stopped procrastinating my own . They had last been attended to in the begining of March 2012 I think, so this last Sunday I did both the Splendor+ and Crux's air filters and vacuum-cleaned the cbz-x's one(paper) a bit too . Both were very dirty , and on the Splendor+ the oil had clumped into some areas of the foam , leaving some drier spots - not good . The oil used on it last time was veedol trans-gear EP90 (now discarded it) . This time I used some leftover motul cng power-plus 20w50 motor-oil on it , just like in my older bike . Since I have spare air-filter elements for both bikes which I had oiled and kept ready in a polybag on saturday night , the swaps took less than 10mins each . Haven't cleaned the used ones yet .
The change is stupendous ! The throttle is become oh so crisp and the bike so sprinty that I kept riding it in heavy rain and traffic today for 25 kilos and no one could keep up with me . This despite being soaked to the bones myself (caught without raincoat) and brushing some paint off the side-pannier frame while overtaking a massive city bus from the wrong side @60 kmph . Lesson - Splendor is damn sensitive to air-filter restriction, I'll be cleaning & re-oiling it every 2 months now . Thanks again .

Pinaki jee. With my trial and error method i found that 2t oil is best for oiling the filter..its so light that it will enter pores so easily and can be squeezed easily..and it will not block the air passage..now on am using 2t oil.....

air filter cleaning doubts cleared and no more pestering..........

                            • Yes 2T is a non-detergent type mineral oil , suitable for this use .. infact it was the recommended foam air-filter oil in my Yamaha RX-100 & RX-135 owner's manuals, and I used to use it just some years back . Just be careful not to use the new synthetic 2T oils, use only the plain mineral ones .
Yamaha Crux manual recommends 20w40 motor oil , same as is used in the engine . Have been using either 20w40 or 20w50 motor-oil on this . No problems .
But the Splendor owner's manual recommends the SAE90 gear oil, and I have used HP EP90 & Castrol SAE90 oils on this with excellent results too . No problems .
HeroHonda authorised service centers invariably use their thin and runny 10w30 motor-oil on both chain and air-filter foam . Sometimes even the used and drained oil . They also use petrol drained from your own tank to clean it .

I suspect that the foam density (measured in ppi) or type may be different among different bikes , for which a different oil may suit each . Also it takes some trials and practice to get the amount of oil just correct and spread it well inside out . With any oil spread it throughly well, and after the paper roll the foam should be looking almost dry , yet your fingertips should become oily when you pinch the foam . Thats it . Remember that oiled-foam air filters are volume filters where the filtration occurs throughout the volume of the oiled-foam . Unlike paper and cotton-gauze(K&N) types , which are surface filters only . An well maintained oiled-foam filter flows air better than any paper type filter and does better air cleaning than the K&N types . It also has the highest dirt-load capacity, can withstand some water and is reusable too . I am thankful that the Splendor uses this type instead of the disposable paper type used in Super-Splendor onwards .

Only this once , the cheaper veedol transgear ep90 oil I got in a pouch-pack failed me .. this oil is also flying off the chain in 3-4 days of use ... dunno , maybe I got some counterfeit oil .

I know we cant increase power with given input, but we can change the ratio between volts & current to match the impedance of the bulb. I've tested 60w bulb and this magnet can power it. 100w is impossible yet there is no risk for me because my head light set is made of metal (no plastic used) as far as wire is concerned, i can change to thicker wire via relay.
