      • Guys I just came back from the mechanic shop.it seems my splendor has an old type round bulb.hence my new osram bulb can't be fitted.I would have to change the entire dome and holder set. Is this true? Mine is a 2001 splendor .

I am not sure about splendor but my uncles's 2001 passion also had a round bulb.
You can replace the holder by doing some jugaad but the best way would be to replace the dome ,holder, reflector and lens for a better beam spread and focus because your reflector and lens is designed for round bulb and not for HS1 bulb.

Thank you for the prompt reply shoeb. Yes even I think replacing the entire set will ensure trouble free running.

                This is a colder one.

Can i use diesel to clean air filter bcoz here in kerala kerosene is not readily available due to government norms ...

                • ^^Well, you can use any "high flash point solvent" to clean it. And that will include diesel. Even a "low flash point solvent" (read petrol) is to be avoided only from the pov of possible fire hazard, nothing else.

Is that only b'coz of possible fire hazard..the foam will degenerate in time due to the use of petrol..glue will be lost and it will rip apart..and i think the pores will also become big and it will loose its filtering capacity

                    • ^^ What I have quoted is from bike manuals in general. The foam will not degenerate just because of petrol IMO. Anyway, change the foam once a year like me! How much is it going to cost, after all?

                        • Problem report - Further careful observation - the stalling is occurring only after the bike gets wet throughly . Yesterday and today we had almost no rain , and today it did not occur even once . Also when the bike gets wet and then is stored for the night wet like that (I never wipe it) ... the battery is getting very low in the morning (horn won't blow) . After riding a km or so it gets charged up alright . Does not happen in the dry days when the bike is stored dry .
Yet to clean carb , maybe will do in the weekend . Still it doesn't feel like a carb related stall to me , I mean there is no stuttering etc drama .. it happens during low idle at traffic signals or during de-accelerating for example . Kind of like as if you switched off the bike with ignition key . Or as if your idle speed has been set too low . But it is idling nice and smooth at all other times . Bike restarts instantly back again by releasing clutch in low gear .. as you know is normal . No problems with that either .
After cleaning almost all the contacts the bike is performing better too , eager to accelerate and fuel mileage is gone up by at least 5kmpl . Yet to clean the contacts behind the front bikini fairing .
Have put some light lube oil in the ignition keyhole too . Key is smooth now .
Guys this is acting just like the troubles I had with ignition coils on my Yamahas .. bit by bit .. moving in that direction ? . Something electrical ? I have a electrical history !! Please help ..

Rs 88 only for the set, gansan'Jee . But yes , the foams does get damaged a bit every time you use petrol on it , you can actually feel that if you use your bare hands to clean .. it feels soggy and swollen in petrol(I have tried it) . Also other than the flammability , petrol is able to penetrate skin(on your hands for example) and enter bloodstream and is a known carcinogen . Using safer high flash point solvents like kerosene and never oiling a wet filter , it should last 5 years at least . If it is possible , avoid using petrol .

Someone used a drop or two of oil on the threads of the plug while fitting it , shoeb does that too .. no problem .

Please clean the ignition switch connector contacts first.
DO a quick amp test to find any unaccounted battery drain with the ignition switch in on position and gear in neutral.

The maximum current drawn should be 0.20 amps with neutral indicator glowing and 0.8 amps in any other gear ,anything more than that indicates a slight short somewhere.

Did you check CDI and ignition coil contacts ?
I will post the service limits of those.(Resistance of primary and secondary coil)

                            @Harish
If it is only on thread then there is nothing to worry because every mechanic puts few drops of oil on the thread for easy installation.

some months back when i went for periodic oil change of my fazer to a renowned mechanic a strange thing happened. when i told him to change the oil he took 900 ml of engine oil and i was surprised and suggested him that fazer needs 1000ml of oil..That mechanic replied no bike engine needs 1000 ml of oil ..i showed him my owners manual which stated to use 1000ml..and he replied if we use 1000 ml engine will struggle to pump the oil and mileage and pick up will decrease..i asked him if it was so then y should company recommend to use 1000ml..and the MORON replied bike cmpny does no about bikes and only he and rest of the mechanics knows better...After a long debate and quarrel i took my bike and changed my oil myself to 1000ml...and suggested my friends not to consult him for this kind of maintenance and follow owners manual to change engine oil change /grade /quantity..

IIRC Yamaha Fazer/FZ needs 1200 ml of engine oil. The phamplet I got with a proforma from a dealer clearly states so. Is it only for the latest models?
