  • Nothing different about my bike than what is known about CBZ.

Have meted all kinds of abuse to it - No problem.

Gets heated in summer - No Problem.

Requires choke and warming in winter - No Problem.

Can lug a lot of weight - No Problem.

Average fuel average - No Problem.

50-60 kms. of travelling at 100+ speed - No Problem.

A few little vibration - Don't Care, No problem.

For first 8 years was completely stock with top speed of 105 kmph - No Problem.

Last best speed achieved - 119 kmph - No Problem.

Have lots of ideas about it but no time - No Problem.

    Overall - No Problem.

    • My review of 9 yrs 80k kms.

Not spent a penny on engine until 60k kms when I had to change to new bore due to carbon deposits.

Apart from that nothing much to brag about, everything is good if you can cope with little vibes post 60kmph & can live with 40kmpl mileage.

This is a very good city bike, short geared so can easily be driven @ top gear in less speed & feels torquey till 60kmph after that looses out bad

Lighting - Pretty bad I must say, since the reflector is not clear type lighting aint sufficient for highway riding.

      Brakes - Decent enough
      Handling - Decent enough
Spares - Although little costly hardly needs a replacement.

Service - ASC does a pretty good job considering it is HH.

Nice bullet point review, so overall its a No Problem bike, huh?
        Anyone else?
I heard it does about 120kmph on the speedo which translates to about 110kmph true. Is this right?
Also, the engine refinement is very low at higher speeds. How about lower speeds?
Heck, I think I'll just grab someone's bike&then come back with something!
Hope my friend gets a good bike.
How long do you think he can use it if it has already run 60+K kms.?

Edit: Just noticed the last post by Abhilash.
So how much did the engine work cost you buddy?
What I'm thinking is by this time, any bike he gets would have done 60+K kms.which would mean some engine overhauling necessary. Are the parts easily available in HH SVC&how are the spares cost?
For eg.if he gets a 2001 or 2002 CBZ which has done some 65-70K kms., how much would he be spending to get it back to mint condition?
I have already counted the following default expenditures:
        Repainting: 2K.
        Tyres: 3K
        Battery, spark plug etc. 1K.
        Engine&other work?

Reg to speed - I have seen 130 on my speedo , i think it does about 106 or 107 kmph in real ( I am not sure)

Engine refinement - yes post 70kmph engine becomes little harsh, but in lower speeds it aint that bad, using fully synthetic oil will help to some extent.

Bro. dont think too much of engine, I can guarantee you this is one master piece of an engine, as i said earlier I have seen people who have done more than a lakh kms on this bike & hardly has any problem, when I last checked with one of my mech he said engine is going good why bother for overhauling ( for an 80k done engine)

I believe if the bike you get & its engine is in good condition it can keep running for another at the least 40-50k kms.

Coming to my case - I needed to change over to new bore since my bike ran in high rpm's continuously with low oil level in a ride & thus the result.

It costed me close to 1.8k for the new bore & around 500 inr job work charges.

In my opinion getting back the engine to mint condition will depend a lot on how much abuse the bike has gone through but considering it as normal usage I do not see any where to go beyond max 5k.

            • hey sarvajit congratulate ur friend on my behalf cuz he is going 2 b d proud owner of a legend in sum time..ill give u my experience..will b happy if it helps u 2 a small extent also..

my dream of owning dis legend came true in 2008..got a 2001 model for 14k(39k kms done)..no bargaining done here..took it for a test ride and that was the second time i was riding a cbz in my entire life..sat on it and felt my adrenaline ready to explode..for d first time i felt i was sitting on a wild tamed bull ready for a take off...

d bike started in the first kick and the roar of the bike felt like a machine gun in action and it filled up the empty street on a hot afternoon...could literally feel the bike thanking me for putting it in the first gear so that it could show me its power....takkk...second gear and it was nearing 40 widout any vibes or roughness..i got scared and slowed down cuz dat was d first time i was riding a 150cc bike and going to own it too..

without any second thoughts got the bike..here are the positives and negatives as far as i know:
              POSITIVES
superb stability..rough and tough engine, 2dae my bike has done 50k kms, opened d engine to check for carb deposits suprsingly dey wer very very few...accelaration thanks to the TPFC concept is top notch.. a very gud bike for every day commuting contrary to some opposite reactions for the same....d list is endless..
              NEGATIVES
bad headlight qlty..shockups tend to go weak after sometime but still hold on...d problem is that its rare to get a well maintained classic and once u have got a second hand one you need to keep aside 5 to 10k for patching up the stupidity of previous owners..
lastly i have gone on many trips rode under extreme conditions...in heavy rains,in summer,in chilly nights...did a mumbai-mahab-pune-mumbai trip wid very little oil remaining which i forgot to check..my stupid fault..still d bike held on well didnt complain at all..on the contrary my friends pulsar siezed for 15 mins..we both wer riding at 80-85...but that day came when it broke down..but again it didnt let me down..just had to put oil and clean the carb and den it roared wid new found strength..people tell me to sell it off but only i know what i have got from dis legend in these 2 yrs..
So buddy sarvajit all the best to ur friend for selecting a gud bike..and d tips given by my friends are very very valid keep them in mind and go for ur legend..its time to burn some rubber...ALL D BEST

Thanks a lot for the review buddy. Your words are very encouraging, just like others'.
I think you were lucky to get a low run bike for just 14K. Hope he also gets something in the same range.
Hearing all this from you guys, now I'm also tempted to get myself one!

                    • Sorry, Bhai logon, mixed up crank power and rear wheel power (RWP). Placed below is the real picture. R-15 curve is purely based on my personal imagination for giving a tadka to the equation. So clearly, our CBZ is detuned in comparison of a stock CRF-150 sold abroad. Middle finger for us Indians.

                        • There are so many pistons manufacturers in India. But not even one has tried to capture the secondary market for demand for pistons for replacing OEM piston by offering a 67 mm piston with 10.5 CR which can be used in both ZMA and CBZ. We lack that culture.

Though a 67 mm top quality honda general engine piston with 15 mm pin is available in India (Rs. 500) but lacks appropriate compression height and dome and right lubrication gallies and with thinner crown. Though with some heavy modifications someone might try it. Best of luck to anyone.

PS - Use this piston on your own responsibility.
