butttt I have been wanting to know more about your wrecked ZX-10R, where it is?
Why aren't you getting it repaired? If the crash was that bad, how you came away unscathed? Care to share a few photos?

mud problem
ok people i was looking at the inside of the bike ...and at radiator i saw this large mud at different places......coz it has been raining this month ...so all the wet mud has now dried up n it was in small lumps on radiator at different places....so please suggest as to how to clean it up and even in the inside n on shocker and in front also ...there is large mud coz i have been doing lil biking during this rainy season ...so need suggestion how to clean ...can i use water n wash same way i wash car ....or need to use vacumm cleaner
secondly i was going through this traffic area of badarpur and faridabad delhi stretch where construction of metro n highway is going on and during night in huge traffic i was seeing huge dust in the air coming towards bike n i take my bike almost daily through that stretch ..is there any way to protect the bike from that dust ....and what damage it can do to bike.hero honda pleasure (for bringing vegetables)

You can use normal water. Do NOT pressure wash as the radiator and fan are quite delicate (from what the Bajaj told me). Needless to say, engine should not be runningOriginally posted by poor_guy_despobiker View Postok people i was looking at the inside of the bike ...and at radiator i saw this large mud at different places......coz it has been raining this month ...so all the wet mud has now dried up n it was in small lumps on radiator at different places....so please suggest as to how to clean it up and even in the inside n on shocker and in front also ...there is large mud coz i have been doing lil biking during this rainy season ...so need suggestion how to clean ...can i use water n wash same way i wash car ....or need to use vacumm cleaner

I didnt know my signature would get such a serious response.
The ninja I wrecked was a scale model.

whats wrong if u spray the radiator with your engine running ! I dont think it does any harm. If at all it dries up the radiator real soonOriginally posted by Hyperion View PostYou can use normal water. Pressurized spray is the only enemy here.

No other SBK ridden by me.Originally posted by sheelpriye View PostI questioned about your ZX and you changed your sign?
Where is your ZX? If you wrecked it so heavily that it is beyond repair, how come you came away unscathed? (you aren't shaking)
A picture or two of your pre-wrecked and post-wrecked would do good along with the current status of your ZX.
ThanksTook you real long to come up with this !Originally posted by MT01 View PostOh lolz.

^^ never spray water on a running engine, because the water will cause un-equal contraction of the metal casing of the engine.
Engines should be washed after they have cooled down

nah I am talking of radiator wash not engine wash.Originally posted by jd666 View Post^^ never spray water on a running engine, because the water will cause un-equal contraction of the metal casing of the engine.

However if the radiator/engine are warm any water that comes into contact with it is vapourized instantaneoulsy. How will it cause any cooling in patches in the engine/raditator to cause any contraction in the metal ? Pls throw some more light onto this if possible.

a very valid argument but you need to ride your bike in the rain to understand that water will be splashed indirectly on the radiator, and very little amount will reach the engine block.Originally posted by n_aditya View PostWhat if you are riding and then it starts raining?
Yes bro, i know that, but the water that will go thru the fins of the radiator and reach the engine block/cylinder/crankcase etc.Originally posted by TenHut View Postnah I am talking of radiator wash not engine wash.

It will vapourize instantly because it will draw the heat from the immediate surface it comes in contact with. This immediate and localised heat transfer will cause the metal in the immediate vicinity to contract, while leaving the other areas still heated up and expanded.
Such minute expansions and contractions of the metal generates a lot of stress in the component, which can crack or warp even.
So do not pour water on a hot engine, or splash it or anything.
Thats why during rains it is recommended to drive slowly thru puddles, not only to keep your car/bike from stalling, but also making sure that the water does not splash on the engine, causing this issue. Once the engine( either car or bike ), is wet, then the cooling will be uniform, so no further issues then.

Need help
Hi - I took my Ninja to some rainy and muddy places twice last week. Last G2G on 1st Aug in Bhandardhara (mumbai+Pune G2g anniversary ride), I rode the bike for almost 400kms. For the last 3 kms when I was going through the traffic the bike was heating up like anything and also the rpm was automatically going to 4K. I had to stop the bike 2 times in 3 kms. The next day when I checked, the bike was fully covered in mud and the radiator had almost 1/2 inches of mud layer. I cleaned it up. I ahven't taken the bike out after that. Was that the reason for abnormal behaviour?

+1 to that . the unequal contraction expansion will lead to microfractures. its less likely in steel and iron derived alloys , but it will happen for sure in all alluminium derived alloys, since they arent very elastic. its kinda brittle. My own pulsars clutch side cover has crack all over it from the inside due to all the washing of the hot engine. the magneto side cover survived since it doesnt get that hot anyway.Originally posted by jd666 View Post^^ never spray water on a running engine, because the water will cause un-equal contraction of the metal casing of the engine.
Engines should be washed after they have cooled down
Addndum: though this may be less of a problem with liquid cooled enginesLast edited by slipstream1; 08-05-2010, 12:10 AM.
