So, most of the bikers have clocked around 175kmph at the most with engines to redline .......is what I assume from the above two replies.
But you would not be believing something that I just came across,
I know everyone who rides Ninja 250R most have knowledge about the erstwhile Hyosung Comet GT250R.It was a 27-28 bhp machine with carbureted fueling and V-twin engine.
However, I recently came across a video which shows that the Comet clocks sick speed of 180-185 kmph on the speedo !!!! It is even faster than the Ninja 250R.
I am just wondering that how can the air-cooled and technologically older bike than the Ninja 250R can outperform the liquid cooled, more powerful Ninja !!!
That is why I asked about it in the first place.
Please observe the videos here :
The bike does some awkward speeds, though stability, high speed handling and vibrations seems to be taking the hit.Just notice the region 3:30 to 3:50, how the gear is shifted at redline while it is going 160kmph on the speedo. The fifth gear just propels the bike to 180kmph !!!!
The rider is very brave no doubt, there has been some really risky and maverick passes at such speeds with bike shaking all over.
A comparison top speed hiking Ninja 250R video is also being posted:

i'm not going to compare the Comet 250 with the N250R...
but yes. i have achieved a "faster" speedo indicated top end on the Comet.
175kmph (ish)
which is like 3 km or so more than what i've managed on the N250R.
P.S: well... the Comet was born in 2005... and the Ninja in 1983.
so technically... the Ninja is older than the Comet... 22 years OLDER.

I somehow dont feel that the comet video is authentic, when the guy breaks at 160kmph going down to 100kmph, the car which is on the right side of him doesnt appear the way vehicles appear when you break, im not a pro at judging videos or even explaining why i feel the video isnt right, but im not sure about it.Apache 180

The Xbhp Ninjas in Chennai regularly ride with Comet 250's ( sort of a quarter-litre club
) and while they are fast, I've not seen any Comet rider best a Ninja - not because of the bike itself but because of the stance and lack of a windscreen. The Comet(-eers?
) regularly complain about the wind-blast which Ninja riders too feel if not tucked in fully.
IMHO the ergos and wind-resistance characteristics will play more of a role at these speeds.
Also lets remember that videos don't mean anything, since they don't take into account speedo-error which can be quite whacked on some bikes.
Xinfii was telling me some time back that his GPS reading of 150kmph contradicted his speedo of 170kmph, so unless we have accurate speed testing equipment to corroborate all these claims they will be unverifiable.

The guy riding the Comet did a very slight braking and then decelerated to drop his speed enough to cruise past the car.At first I too thought, judging from the point of view of riding bikes which do not cross 130kmph.But when I took into consideration of what the riding feels like on the other side of 150kmph, I was pretty convinced that video was authentic.Originally posted by saipranav View PostI somehow dont feel that the comet video is authentic, when the guy breaks at 160kmph going down to 100kmph, the car which is on the right side of him doesnt appear the way vehicles appear when you break, im not a pro at judging videos or even explaining why i feel the video isnt right, but im not sure about it.
Like all other bikes, this Comet too showed power/torque lag and slow roll-ons in higher gears while its high speed came in excess of redline like most other sports bikes.
But one thing is for sure, even if it may manage a slightly higher top end than the Ninja, but the acceleration may be a bit lesser. Also is the fact that it is evident from the video that Comet is not as comfortable as the Ninja at that speed.Hell's Angel

I was witness for this as I was riding behind TVOriginally posted by trustvishwas View PostOnce I rode pillion on my own bike from Pune to Chakan. One of the smoothest riders from pune, Niranjanvaidya was riding the bike but I was so scared because there was nothing to hold on to. Every time he even slightly opened throttle, I thought I would be falling back. Couple of times, my both legs left footpegs. Only because he was very smooth in braking and accelerating, we could reach the destination in one piece.
Pillion for a city ride is absolutely doable. Pillion for a highway blast is a big No No.
One qualifier though : I rode back from Lonavala with a fellow xBhpian some months back. He wanted to ride pillion on Ninja. But he was sitting so comfortably, I touched 140 couple of times but then backed off to 100-120. However, each time, his helmet was hitting mine.
long rides with pillion is not comfortable. The back seat has vibrations as its hooked and locked. Also if GF/wife keep leaning on you for a long time, its uncomfortable for riders as well

please see my post below on taking my wife on her maiden long ride on the ninja.Originally posted by pravu View PostPlease let me know how good is Ninja taking pillion rider into consideration? Is it comfortable enough to cruise at high speeds with a pillion? I have heard its not recommended to do high speeds with a pillion.
Do all Ninja owners enjoy the ride without a GF? For bikes like these, its more or less meager if the GF is not roped in with your riding experience. I am kind of worried now about the pillion rider experience.
Throwing some inputs would be highly appreciated.
regarding top speed. lot of factors influence the same. for ninja most bikes in normal condition will pull out a top wack of 160 kmph with a single rider. now beyond that is where the other factors come in i can list some.
1. no wind weather and dry climate.
2. you are light weight about 70 kgs sort of
3. you are wearing skin tight non perforated leather full riding gear with an aerodynamic helmet.
4. you are tucked into the wind screen.
5. clean air filter, correct chain tension, well oiled chain
6. you are using the best petrol like speed 97 sort or equivalent.
7. correctly balanced tyres, correct tyre pressure, (not brand new or worn out )
8. level flat and straight road.
these factors aid in speeds you achieve over the 160 kmph mark.
now boosters with above conditions in place
1. you are going down on a slope
2. wind coming behind you ( pushing you )
3.You are riding at an altitude i mean above MSL ( i expect that the ECU of Ninja compensates the altitude and bike performance is maintained intact )
if you have all the above factors going positive ninja may touch 180 +Mountain biking on impulse with my wife and our bike goes down in water

Added to above - not a full tank fuel.
An optimum quantity which helps to reduce the total weight.
By the way , better to ride and have fun than niggling with top ends too much.
Another way is to change the front sprocket. 15T front will give you 180 at any given circumstances (not uphill though). It is very cheap (low cost) mod too.Last edited by SamArul; 06-01-2011, 09:35 PM.

If tis so, then my speedo shows the correct reading while we tested during the Munnar trip side by side. Everyone of your bikes showed 180 mark against the mark of 165 on my ninja's console.. I guess the new Ninja which comes with green tails & white dials shows the real(GPS) speed mark.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up!
