You are absoloutely right. All regular petrol that we get now is BS-IV compliant. Even then, I would suggest to go for premium for the sole reason, that they are not adulterated with kerosene and the likes.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! View PostUnless I seriously mistaken, the whole of India is now BS III compliant and BS IV in metros. As per that standard BS III and BS IV spec is RON 91and that is the only grade produced by the refineries for domestic consumption. All the premium fuels use only detergents to help clean the engine and the effect is best felt in FI vehicles. The premium fuels do not have higher octane number - the sole exception being Speed 97, which is RON 97.
So using any fuel on your bike should not cause any problems at all.
Awww... They just got mad coz they got screwed out of some serious moolah!Originally posted by maheshkmr View PostThank you guys. Oh ya btw... looks like you are going only for the rear tyre.. not changing the front? If it's a 140/70 pirelli sd, let me know if you find any difference in handling and performance after installation.
Supposedly we can go all the way to 160, but performance lags from 150 onwards.Last edited by ronthedon; 02-24-2012, 08:50 AM.Speed - (spēd) n.

Simota air filter in Mumbai
Shell Super Premium is rated at 93RON.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! View PostThe premium fuels do not have higher octane number - the sole exception being Speed 97, which is RON 97.
Looks like my stock air filter is so clogged that it cannot be cleaned effectively, so I've got to get a new one. I've decided to get the Simota stock replacement filter as a friend of mine recommends it. I know Joel ships it, and there is a certain "Nisar Motor Works" in Bangalore that is the official importer. However, I prefer to see things in person before I purchase them, so is there any such place in Mumbai where I can get a Simota stock replacement filter for the Ninja off the shelf?
Also, would anyone happen to know the price of the fuel injectors? I'm about to find out anyway, but I'd just like to confirm the price!
Update:
1. Fuel injectors: talked to the Thane service centre. They apparently don't keep the injectors in stock, and you've got to order them with an advance payment of around Rs 1000. No time period quoted, and I'm in a dilemma because it is way too much trouble to put the motorcycle back together, then open it up again when the new injectors arrive. And when it's open, it is using up valuable real estate at the (very busy) mechanic's workshop. Bajaj is acting very proactive about it, though, so my fingers are crossed.
2. Simota filter: Got our very own Satyen to talk to Joel, and the price quoted for the filter is Rs 3200. That's almost ten times as much as the stock filter, so looks like I'll be installing the stock filter only.Last edited by isodope; 02-24-2012, 11:20 AM. Aftermarket air filters for the ninja make only marginal improvements in low end and mid range grunt.Originally posted by isodope View PostLooks like my stock air filter is so clogged that it cannot be cleaned effectively, so I've got to get a new one. I had a K&N and switched back to the stock foam filter since its easier to clean.ATGATT - Because hospital ceilings are boring !!!

Conclusion: The fork story
The shoddy fork job, that was done by Bajaj SVC few month back, was re-examined in presence of Bajaj Ninja Engineer. I told him the correct way to change the fork oil which was not performed last time. He acknowledged the mistakes that they made & offered to rectify it (but that was not needed, read ahead).
We (me & rishabh) also purchased the Yamaha fork oil (assured by YFS service head that it is 10W) as I didn't get a 10W grade fork oil in market. But I didn't get a chance to use it.
However, we made them take out the (brand new?) torque wrench & tighten the steering stem nut with the correct torque value. This single job alone made vast difference in the front suspension & on how the bike behaves over potholes/bumps. Bike is back in shape (though i'm still skeptical about the fork oil that they put), so I'm not letting anyone to touch the fork again. Let the good times roll !!!
Few pointers to fellow owners (specially in Pune) -
- Insist on using torque wrench when assembling the important parts (like steering, engine etc.)
- Make the service guy follow the exact steps as mentioned in manual. (Most of the time they tend to skip imp. steps !)
- Take the soft copy of service manual with yourself (they do have a hard copy of the same manual, but it is actually a waste of paper !)

i fill only 91 octane in my bike that is speed petrol of BP. no other premium grades are here at thiruvananthapuram. but i fill up full tank on all rides with speed petrol so that i dont get caught on ordinary fuel some where.(even on long rides fuel stops are planned) there is nothing wrong in pampering your ninja with some good petrol even if ordinary can do the thing.Originally posted by HIMANSHU Paralkar View PostI had a query. Do you fill in xtra premium, speed(91,93 octane) in ur tank or normal fuel?Mountain biking on impulse with my wife and our bike goes down in water

nice to know that a solution exists and it is nothing but a copybook implementation of what is written in the service manual.Originally posted by vrathor View PostThe shoddy fork job, that was done by Bajaj SVC few month back, was re-examined in presence of Bajaj Ninja Engineer. Bajaj would improve customer satisfaction by a huge margin if only the service personnel at probiking would read and implement what is written in the book.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

I think Indion Oil's Extra premium is 91 octane and easily available in Trivandrum or anywhere.Originally posted by harikeshpk View Posti fill only 91 octane in my bike that is speed petrol of BP. no other premium grades are here at thiruvananthapuram. but i fill up full tank on all rides with speed petrol so that i dont get caught on ordinary fuel some where.(even on long rides fuel stops are planned) there is nothing wrong in pampering your ninja with some good petrol even if ordinary can do the thing.
btw, sir, are you satisfied with the services by probiking. I am highly unsatisfied. They are always delaying services. Oil changes are taking 4 or 5 days. It seems they are only interested in servicing pulsars. Kawasaki bays are filled up with 150s.

Yes, they are selling 2.5 k worth tyre for 9k, but no one is buying from them. So they are mad. Badly want to change front tyre but there is no stock anywhere. No, its a 130/70 psd.Originally posted by ronthedon View PostAwww... They just got mad coz they got screwed out of some serious moolah!

my bike has gone only once to pbk thiruvananthapuram to just check up and chain tension adjustment. both services were done at pbk chennai. next will be at thiruvananthapuram (3rd service ). we have to live with bad service. but oil change should not take more than a couple of hours. really bad service that.Originally posted by maheshkmr View PostI think Indion Oil's Extra premium is 91 octane and easily available in Trivandrum or anywhere.

talking of fuel i was not satisfied with IOC extra premiumfuel i filled once from pattom pump. so i am sticking on with BP speed and fill always from the kawdiar pump next to cafe coffee day.
2 things you can always do on your own. 1. cleaning the air filter 2. lubricating the chain. only for kerala ninjas its better to keep your bike covered while parking overnight even if you have a covered shed. this keeps the humidity away esp from your air filter and help you with a good start up in the morning.Mountain biking on impulse with my wife and our bike goes down in water

I don't think there would be any issues. Will there?
On the airfilter, when does it needs to be replaced? Every 12K kms?Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle
