had my 18000 kms service(odo has clocked 15200) done today. plugs changed, coolant changed, brake fluid changed. bike is now 3 years. as per service here my battery may be weak. he says bike starting is normal, voltage is also normal. but his testing unit is indicating fault. which means i should change my battery. so do i have to shell out Rs 10,000/- for a change or not ? since purchase till date my battery has been faultless. 10 days back after 2 weeks of idle, the bike started with a single push of the starter. i feel i need not rush for a battery change and can wait for about 3 to 4 months ? can any body throw some light on this.

a single IRC tyre is Rs 10,000/- at PBK Thiruvananthapuram. One pair is 20,000/- is the pricing true ? for the ninja 650 the price for a pair is 33,000/- rs

My personal opinion, stick to your existing battery. If your bike is starting in single push, then it should be good. I also bought my Ninja 3 years back. 23,500KM on odo. Battery still not changed. I had my bike standing still for around 6 to 8 months. After that got the battery fully charged. It's still working fine. So, hopefully your battery would be in a better condition than mine.

Also, if required to change, you could source a battery from performance racing or someone else for lot less. Around 4000 to 6000 INR.

good reply on batteries. i think for now i will stick with my battery for some more time. i have my reasons as i am at kerala weather is neither too hot / cold. i am not doing a LEH ride this year/ taking my bike to below normal temps. if i get the exact replacement it may be better to buy if from PRS/outside.

i am editing this post. i require to fit a rear saddle bag on my ninja and also seat a pillion. the hindrance is that the rear indicators come in the way of fixing the saddle bag. now the only way is to relocate the rear turn indicators further back to near the rear number plate.any one has done any mod on this?

This sound is of the cam chain tensioner, there are 2options 1) it can be adjusted or 2) you can change it I guess it's around 3k, I faced the same problem I got it adjusted once but the sound started again after 4000 Kms so I got it changed

I am facing a similar issue. The SVC claimed that they had replaced the cam chain tensioner under warranty ,but the problem has cropped up again after 2.5k kms or so.
So I'm guessing that they adjusted it the first time ,claiming that they had replaced it

I changed my bike's chain tensioner now at 38,000 km. It needs to be adjusted after a certain km of running. You can adjust it several times (there is a specific range of adjustment). After that you need to change the same. Cost was around 2800/-.

cost of IRC tyres quoted is correct. We, Pune Ninja owners had shifted to Pirelli Sports Demon long time back but because of shortage of PSD since last 7-8 months, don't see much option.

I feel the max life of a cam chain tensioner in Indian road conditions is 20k to 22k Kms it has to be replaced and the life is even lesser if you use fuel with additives about the service guys they don't agree at all they keep telling you it's the tappit sound, I guess we just need to tell them to replace it.

Metzler tyres are now coming in for Duke 390 and should be available at PBKs.
The 110 should be able to fit Ninja as well.

I got my 3rd svc done at 12065kms. They adjusted valve settings and do whatever they do at the svc. Initially the bike was running without any noise from the tappet. Now I can hear the noise from the tappet at lower revs and at low rpms. Is it normal?
However it is there only till 3k rpm above that it is as smooth as it is. Is it anything to worry about?

AS long as you aren't having issues with the battery there is no need to change IMO. The rear costs around 9K at the svc centre. Front would also be the same. I got my tyre changed to the CBR's 140/70 and it cost me just rs2800. I couldn't source PSDs and I didn't have so much faith in Dunlops. I guess KTMs front is also good as it is soft. Again it is adviced to use both the tyres of same make but IMO this combo works best for the Ninja as far as grip is concerned +fatter tyre, and you cant find PSDs

I've heard horror stories about the Continental tyres of the CBR. Are they as confidence inspiring as the IRCs in dry conditions?
I am using Dunlop tuff grip myself, which is made of a softer compound compared to the Continental. They're decent tyres, albeit don't inspire as much confidence as the stock tyres, IMO.
