How to identify a worn out timing chain?

Align crank to TDC mark, and observe through timing chain inspection window, the marks on both sides of the cam sprocket should be aligned with the head.

A fellow rider got the original adjustable ones from abroad and had installed it on his P200NS, when inquired, he mentioned that he had revered to stock and was kind enough to give them to me. The next day morning I had planned to ride to Bangalore, so at around 1 AM, after an oil change, I decided to go ahead with the install, everything went fine and as usual I decided to take the ride for a spin. After a few meters noticed the 'trrrr' sound from front brakes, but usually it happens only when the brakes are applied, so went back home and inspected the front rotor, it was blazing HOT!, immediately reverted to stock, and on close inspection found that the depression where the clitoris like things sits is not that shallow in the after market ones and hence there was constant pressure.

I was lucky, because if I had'nt taken the bike out for a final test run, then the next day, I would've unknowingly ridden 750kms and melted my calipers.

In my ZMA it started around the time my speedo unit died, which is close 30k IIRC. But in my case, it went away with load, so I went on to assume that it was due to horizontal play.

You are welcome and it is always best to share the experience as it will help out the other riders.. By the way, it was because of the habit i have keeping my index finger between the lever and grip.. I guess I would have got hurt even it if was the stock levers, however not to this extent..

rreneav1987, take care brother. Do not trust anyone on the highways.

Frankly speaking, Chinese items are a hit or a miss. It took me 6 months to find adjustable levers for ZMR. I loved them. No sharp edges. Just that they were thick and little slippery.
But they took the brunt in my accident last year and still did not break. I reverted back to stock and I'm happy too.

Ok, so I was on my way for an interview last weekend in Gurgaon.. I was nearing the toll booth and I got a call from a friend saying he met with an accident. I asked for location and he was some 6-8 kms from where I was.. I took a U Turn and picked up speed.. riding at 90-110 kmph.. there is a place for U turn under a bridge and I slowed the speed to 75 kmph and I saw a car taking a U turn.. Thinking he saw me, I didnt slow down. That idiot took the U turn and started crossing the road without seeing if any vehicle is coming.. i pulled the brake levers tightly and managed to slow the vehicle to 30 kmph but that wasn't sufficient.. I T-boned the car.. I was so angered and frustrated. I picked my bike up and took it to the side.. checked for damages to my bike and found it negligible.. then i noticed my right index finger paining.. I pulled out the gloves to find the finger cut (deep) from right till the bottom of the nail bleeding heavily.. I was so outraged I wanted to punch the guy on his face.. The guy comes out of his car and starts abusing me. I was like ***king a$$**le, you are crossing the road on the highways without looking to the left on who is coming.. he sees his car and says you have caused me some 4000/- damage.. I showed him my bleeding finger and said look at what happened because of your carelessness.. I urged him to take me to the doctor and he refused and he said that will cost you some 100/- and look at the damage you have done to my car 4000/- I figured out i was wasting time with a loser..

Thankfully, there was a mechanic shed nearby. they all came and the mechanic named "Shankar" took me to the nearby clinic as I wasn't able to move my right hands and was with me till the time I had the small operation on my finger done..

Now since i was given Local Anaesthesia, I didn't have any pain and I was able to ride... I went to meet my friend who met with an accident and his bike was all screwed up and Thankfully he was fine..

After i reached home, I was wondering how only my index finger got cut and nothing happened to the other fingers..

I recently purchased those chinese after sale adjustable levers and I have the habit of keeping my index fingers inbetween the lever and the handle.. the levers are too sharp due to the impact my finger got cut.. Thanks to the Dainese Leather gloves my finger wasn't chopped off..

I got the levers changed back to stock and I realised my foolishness.. Stock is always best..

I am fine and my finger is recovering.. the flesh has been removed upto the nail and the nail has been completely removed.. hoping to recover in weeks time..

P.S Please don't go for those crazy adjustable levers...

Sorry to know of the accident. Take care and ride slow.

On indian highways particularly near junctions and small settlements, slow down the speed to acceptable limits.

Most cagers do not care a damn for bikers as they think we need to slow down and watch for them

You will get much better bikes to ride there. Also much better roads there.

But stay in touch here. Tomorrow if you get a bike there and need help for any problem we all are here to help you.

And by the way Hero is also now in america.

You had an immaculate maintained ZMR. If it would have not been in chennai, i would have bought it.

Anyways best of luck for your future.
Thanks bro. I am in Charlotte, NC. This place has harsh winters so motorcycling isn't very common. Though I do see a few bikes neatly wrapped and left alone in the parking lot at this time of the year.

I don't think Hero's bikes are available here yet. Looks like they are planning to start from 2016.

Who advised using rubbing compound? Which company's rubbing compound was used?
It is very easy to destroy the clear-coat using any cheap rubbing compound. Moreover, did you allow the compound to dry before wiping it (They should not be allowed to dry usually)?
Rubbing compound is used to clear blemishes off the paint (usually scratches, or a lighter compound/polish for swirls).
I hope you've not ruined the paint beyond repair.
What you can still do is (if the compound has only gummed up, rather than left paint defects) is use rubbing alcohol 50:50 with water. Wet a "SOFT" cloth thoroughly. By soft, I mean we don't use those yellow clothes available everywhere, use a proper microfibre cloth. Wet wipe again and again till the gumminess is removed. If the compound has left scratches, you will need to re-polish the paint. Do NOT allow the polish to dry, and do not use rubbing compound again.

What you should have used is any wax after washing the bike.

Motomax Rubbing Compound / WaxPol Rubbing Compounds generally are heavy abrasives and can cut through the clear coat pretty easy and fast and gives a dull/matte finish.
You can follow the steps mentioned by AK3D and remove the product.
You can also use a strong alkaline shampoo to wash the surface to remove any polish content and then since its turned matte, you can use finer abrasives/ polishes like 3m Finesseit II , or Meguairs ScratchX or any fine polish to get the paint to a better condition.

P.S Please don't go for those crazy adjustable levers...
sorry to know about your accident brthr anyways its great that atleast you are safe
get well soon yr....
