Recently tried shell super and all of a sudden the mileage went below 35kmpl and even the rtmi reading doesn't go above 30kmpl. Today filled normal petrol and rode about 200kms and the mileage was back to normal. Is there any diff between super and normal as of octane rating? The shell people were claiming there will be a mileage increase but ut was reverse over here anybody else noticed the same
I've completed 20k plus kms out of which 16k i've ridden with shell super itself. The rest 4k kms i used normal. I maintain a certain pattern. Roughly after filling twice for 500rs a shell super, i fill once shell normal for 500rs. The reason being shell super has boosters and it definately gives more mileage but prolonged use of such boosters (shell super) is not healthy for the engine. So i switch to shell normal in a certain pattern

    • Is redlining necessary?

I was going through RG's posts number 7500, 7600 and 8100 in the CBR 250R thread. Somewhere he has mentioned that one MUST redline in every gear once in a while, for the engine to be healthy.
It should not be overdone, but neither avoided completely.

Is it that necessary? I never redlined my bike till date!

True... Agreed. Though not sure about the boosters harming the engine, but I fill them (regular/shell super) alternately.

      • A few pages back i told i would update my mileage after the installation of the simota filter.. I filled shell super for 500rs (6.3 litres) and the total kms ridden til i refilled was 287.. Do the math. It gives about 45.5 exact.. And this is within city limits as i avoided riding the bike in highways for the sake of calculation of mileage. Refilled again shell super for the same quantity and since coll started today i'll be riding purely on highway within 90kmph.. Obvi i'll get higher mileage and shall update soon..

Try googling it.. It does not emit harmful emissions compared to other class fuels but it maybe harmful. Maybe

Redlining is good for the engine, helps burn carbon deposits and grinds off malformations in parts that come in contact with each other(Clutch, Tranny etc.), the high flow rate also cleans the carb/pump.

Dont know about overdoing it, but I redline my ride every time I ride, and I dont mean the conventional style of touching 8k, when I redline it hits the hard limter in every gear till 4th. Even my run in with the second cylinder kit was a hybrid run it, i.e if the limit was set at 7.5k then id hit 7.5k in every gear before upshifting, though I never accelerated hard, it was always steady and even.

I was very gentle with the first cylinder kit and even run in was factory recommended, yet it partially seized. Hence theory proven that riding at higher RPM's is better, even for run-in.

Hmm, then its goin' to a be a 'try-redlining-till-4th' tomorrow.

              UPDATE:-
Red-lined my bike for the first time today... At least I saw the RPM go past 8K in the red zone.
Went till 5K in the first gear, but 2, 3 and 4 were > 8K....

And I must say, I loooooved it!

[All the above stunts were carried out in full gear at 5:30 AM on ORR, Bangalore. Nobody was hurt.]

Oops, sorry, I forgot to mention that in 1st gear its always best to rev only till 5k. But currently redline 1st gear as well, case the FFI makes the bike more rev free, and hence wont notice we're in red untill the bike starts loosing power.

                  Hi Brothers,

Chain Cover or NO Chain Cover in ZMR?

                  Chain Cover +ives
                  1. Peace of Mind & No Tension
                  2. Less dirt accumulation
                  3. Easier to maintain

                  Chain Cover -ives
                  1. Noise due to chain slackening
                  2. Needs tightening every now & then
                  3. Tire cannot be upsized
                  4. Very limited choice of Tubeless Tires

Learned SOULs please help to resolve my dilemna.

I'd say let it be.. Removin the cover would lead to problems for the sprocket and other parts as wel due to dust. Cover is been there for a reason.. And even the bike is engineered to perform its best in the current size of tyre.. But stil if your not happy then do change but not to an extent of removing the cover

                      • There seems to be very little confusion here..

Clearly, the negatives are more. Chuck the cover and upgrade the tyres!!
                        My opinion.

                          • Anyone seen any white ZMR with metallic blue stickers ? While checking ZMR spare catalogue at ASC found white body set is available with 2 options , one with red stickers & other with metallic blue stickers . The spare guy says as it is given in spare catalogue it would come if ordered . No sales guy have any clue about white ZMR with blue stickers . Nothing on HMC web too.

Only a video on youtube with custom blue stickers .

I have changed the front to MRF Zapper FS 2.75-18, i missed the opportunity to try for Michelin Pilot Sporty for front, and the M45 rear is still performing good but will change after more 3-4000 kms as 4-5 punctures are there. was keen to put M45 again but because of its unavailability the second option is Pirelli sport Demon 110-90-18.
So according to me look out for some more options for Front tyre but put pirelli sport demon 110-90-18 in rear.

Finally had gone for look out of Tires. Found the following
Michelin M-62 Tube for Front for 1900 INR
Pirelli SD Tubeless for Rear 110/90 X 18 for 3400 INR

The dealer challenged me that someone has installed PSD with Chain Covers.
According to him this is actually slimmer than Michelin M-45.
As a matter of fact I measured it also and looks so.

Reason is M-45 when inflated the outer wall inflates and creates a bulging effect.
Though have not purchased it but would do so next week.
Hi Friends please enlighten me more if I am wrong.

But definnitely M-62 is better than Sirac Street for Front since I am already using it.
