Routes to avoid during the night.
Coimbatore to Trissur
Allepy to Kayamkulam

The road conditions suck balls. There's like a 90% chance that you'll die. Once while returning from Kozhikode Biriyani ride, I was passing through Alleppy, they had closed down the road but didnt bother to put up signs or anything. Just imagine doing 80~100k on a tarmac road, and instantaneously getting thrown into a rocky off road scenereo completely off guard, I fell into huge pit, but fortunately since I was coming in fast, jumped out of the pit, didnt bother going back, stood up and came out.

And be it day or night, its always preferable to hit Kerala from the north end for security reasons inspite of the previously mentioned issues. If you're intending to hit KL from the south, take the express highway till you reach Tuckalay, then from there enter KL. This route isnt preferred during the night, so if it gets dark, find a hotel nearby. And last but not least, dont even think about taking the Tirumangalam - Kollam Route, I still get nightmares of that route, had to take that route in the middle of the night, barely escaped being run over by interstate trucks.

Well.. i guess we will be hitting Chinnar Wildlife from Mysore.. suggest me a good route to this place or any other place where we can camp/trek/safari in the forest...

I am sure you must be knowing the best place this is my first time on bike to travel this long but I sure have the endurance along with my friends

you mentioned the roads being nightmares.. how about the people?? are they helpful? or do they cheat/rob..? since we don't know the language... do you think we might be robbed??

Ah, bad health for the rider + bike means no xbhp for past few days. I felt good today after having a bad bout of fever yesterday. Bike was already with the mech but he was instructed not to touch it until I stand beside him; reason - me wanted to learn a few things.

I can now proudly say that I did the following myself under my mech's supervision.
1. Changed the chain sprocket. - dismantling/re-mantling the 110 section PSD was a PITA though!
2. Changed the front discs (OE Karizma, darn Ninja pads are out of stock for over a month now! )- bled the brake lines until I felt there was no air lock, wasted about 50 ml oil in the process.
3. Cleaned the injectors. - needed tank removal, that was another tedious process.
4. Put back the chain guard - it doesn't touch the rear tire.
5. Time spent - 3 hours.
6. Damage to pocket - 2100 rupees.
7. And ya, got a new plain seat cover!

Time for pics now:

A shoddy pic as proof that chain guard doesn't interfere with the tire. (bad quality due to greasy hands and mediocre phone cam quality)

Divyasaran- although the question is not directed at me but still i will reply.

In bike the piston is located at one side of the caliper. So what happen is that when we apply the brake the pads of the side which has piston comes in contact with disc. Then as more pressure is applied then the mounting moves which makes the other pads to contact. So this fraction of second is what causes one side pad to get worn. This is the reason why bike disc are known as floating disc. If you will notice the caliper is not solidly mounted but is mounted on rubber boots which slides the caliper which causes the pad to touch and separate.

Thanks for the reply Sibun da. Very nicely explained. So I assume all is well with my bike.

Sad for now. Most probably, the 3 new engines would debut in the festive season next year.

Late entry in this segment is going to kick them out of the race soon.. Come on Hero.. What the Fudge are you doing?? bring out the 250cc engine already.. damn.. next festive season is just too far..

Better I go and book the Duke 390 to wait for one more year just to get disappointed with the specs??

Even if they disappoint with specs, 250 would at max make 27-28 hp, D390 is 40+ hp. Plus you can't compare nakeds to faired ones from different segments.

Well, that doesn't matter for me as long as I get a Faired bike with atleast 28bhp of power D390 with 44bhp doesn't have such a good top end.. thats what is stopping me..

are you really going to settle with 28 HP ?? Considering how fast the power bike segment is growing in India ! I wonder if you would start feeling dated in a year itself I think you should think long term & refrain from taking a hasty decision..whichever way it may be..

BTW, here is what you might get from KTM soon.. something similar if not same..
