When you shift gears, you hold the clutch. That gives enough time for the pump to slow down and switch off. This happens specially while downshifting when you are slowing down to either take a turn or come to a stop. For me, it used to happen even while up-shifting sometimes. When I changed from 4 to 5, the engine would go off. And when I left the clutch, the engine would turn back on. Similar to process of push starting.

Thanks for the compliment. She'll get a full tank fuel in half an hour and then a blast on the BLR-Mysore highway post lunch.
