Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
hello
in my Glamour EFI model the fuel gauge has 8 digital segments which indicates 12Liters. most of the service people say don't try to run in last two segments ( with reserve segment ),it will damage the fuel pump
is that true ? will there be any damage if i run my motorcycle in 2nd segment ( normally i fill the tank when it comes to reserve segment ) thank you.

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
The reason they say that is because the fuel pump shouldn't get dry and if it does, it will get damaged.. its better to avoid such situations..Originally posted by chulubuly View Posthello

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Yes, here's how it works. Usually in carburetted bikes, you have the petcock, which enables you ride with or without a fuel gauge, reason being, once you hit reserve in main, the bike/vehicle stalls, indicating, that you should switch to reserve, so this switchover gives you an approximate idea of when to fuel, and running dry on a carburetted engine won't do any bad to any components of the engine or fueling systems.Originally posted by chulubuly View Posthello

But the same on an FI engine will cook the fuel pump, reason being, it is constantly sucking every last drop of fuel in the tank, so it doesn't know you're in reserve or main, as long the pump works it keeps on sucking fuel. This fuel partly acts as a lubricant and prevents overheating of the pump and going kaput. So the last two bars are there to remind you to fill your tank on an asap basis, before the pump runs out of fuel.
What happens when you run a dry pump? It heats up, and goes kaput, simple as that.
Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END

thank you very much for your information. however i never run long in reserve segment but i have ridden in 2nd segment so will it be ok to fill the fuel tank up when it only hits the reserve segment ( reserve segment blinks when we come to reserve ) ?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostYes, here's how it works. By the way thanks for the picture, but fireblade looks odd from this angle. I like Aprilla RSV4 a lot as that engine is a marvel with V4 configuration and cylinder placed 60 degrees apart. And also that chassis which is infinitely adjustable. No wonder it is coming out at top in all foreign magazines track shootout. But when it comes to looks i think it is the Yamaha R1 which takes the cake. And in middle weight my favorite is Daytona 675R. If looks could kill then this bike would be a mass murderer. But my all time favourite is you know the Busa, the mothership of all bikes. But you know what these are only dreams. Well good as there is no tax on dreaming.
By the way my extreme is quickly gaining kilometers and presently nearing 40k. By march the odo would have crossed 50k or more. So a replacement will have to be bought and i have my eyes on the new ZMR or on HX 250 R if it would have been out. By the way heart is not telling to sell the CBZ extreme as it is running fantastic and on highways the pull from 80-120 kph is just amazing and fun. You must look at the face of the small hatchbacks, boleros and MUV's when i gun the accelerator from 80 kph in fifth gear. Not to mention other bikes when it just pulls ahead. I am enjoying the bike and bike also running like new. But mind is saying to sell near 45k and get the ZMR as it will be relaxed at 100 kph and also the bigger engine will make it comfortable for long highway runs. But you know in the fight between mind and heart, the heart always wins.
And my Joy is nearing 4 lacs kilometers and i think it is getting younger with passing days as it is just amazing, and so smooth.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. surprised to know that your joy has crossed 4L kms...
. Like u said Busa is also my favorite and just like Koji Yoshirua expected it remained unbeaten for many years and in 2007 finally Kawasaki able to create a bike to beat BUSA which Suzuki has created years back.
between iam also in a great dilemma whether to go for HX or ZMR. Finally decided to wait till this festival season to see whether HX launches or not. otherwise ZMR will be my only choice.no other bikes.
But unlike you, i have never thought about selling my HUNK. it will be with me for ever
. and yea we can feel the advantage of 18" at top end...!!

Mine too WAS the Busa till it became so common in India. Now I am more tilted towards the Daytona 675 and I hope to buy it in near futureOriginally posted by sibun View PostBy the way thanks for the picture, but fireblade looks odd from this angle. Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Joy has not crossed four lacs kilometers but will do so in 3-4 months. Now Joy is not running much at the most 1000-1200 km in a month. If i stop ridding the extreme and ride my Joy bike will cross 4 lacs in two months.Originally posted by dineshaugustin View Postsurprised to know that your joy has crossed 4L kms...

Ya the ZZR 1400 beat it in speed and performance, but still the Hayabusa, has the best engine in business when it comes to drivability and smoothness. Also the cult following not to mention.
And yes the 18" are at advantage but more than the wheels it is the tuning of hunk/extreme which gives the advantage. The 28 mm carb, high lift camshaft, and the 128 mm main jet gives it the top end rush like no other. But at top speed it also drinks fuel at crazy rate.
Unfortunately i cannot keep the CBZ extreme as i have my first love i.e Joy which you know is like my heart which i will never in my life will part with. SO ultimately the extreme has to go otherwise i will be thrown out of house .
Ya the Daytona is just fantastic, but well the Busa is Busa, but its a lot of money and huge. Well advance congrats for the Daytona 675. Well as they say:- : bade bade log, bade bade bade baat".Originally posted by rreneav1987 View PostMine too WAS the Busa till it became so common in India. Ya i know you will never sell your black pearl as i will never sell my Joy, thats what makes us bikers isn't it . That is the greatest dilemma that i am facing as heart is not letting me to sell the extreme as i am getting attached to it and mind is set on the ZMR. So you see confusion in both heart and mind, what to do.
