If the bike keeps cranking but doesn't start, its the bank angle sensor. Better tell the mechanic to bypass it. It'll start if the sensor is the culprit.

The mechanic told him that he replaced the sensor from some other bike and the bike worked fine, so I guess he has to shell out the money now..

He was saying that the bike is not able to crank but is not able to describe the issue properly...

What was that sensor? Can you ask your friend to get the following checked (in the same order): ?
          1. Starter relay
          2. Fuses (under the seat)
          3. Spark plug and its cap
          4. Bank angle sensor (rare case)
          5. Fuel pump (rare case - before replacing the unit, please get the injectors cleaned in diesel at a car shop!)

Guys i have a problem. The engine remains super smooth and refined in rpms below 5-6k post which, the engine sounds very very harsh. Zero refinement. I had recently changed oil to shell semi synthetic. Checked the level and its correct.
Btw, i faced the harshness issue today early in the morning. After riding for roughly a kilometre, when i revved past 6k rpm, i experienced the harshness. Is it some way related to the early morning thing?

Yes, warm the engine at idle for a minute and ride sedately for 2-3 kms for it to attain optimal operating temperatures.

Ride it like you are breaking/running in a new engine for the first 5 kms or so every morning. Then you are good to go

you are using shell AX7 right..? normally this oil will give smooth experience at low speeds. but it is not revving friendly. it will make the engine to do more work at high speeds. it is due to the fact that the grade is 10W40. some bhp will be lost in overcoming the increased viscosity. switch back to hero oil and see the difference for yourself. also ensure that the oil level doesn't exceed maximum mark. also you may face oil leakage on the cylinder gasket with this oil if you continue . and yes, do always warmup the engine before starting the ride.

This is applicable for hero bikes running on 10W30, which means for all hero bikes as of today.

Thanks to all three of you guys for your replies! Was in a hurry so had to rev it. Now that my commuting timings are changed, and is a bit early in the morning, ill idle the engine for a minute henceforth!

I've been using AX7 for the past 2000kms and it works exactly like the way you described. The engine also becomes rough when revving past 5k rpm.

Apart from the stock hero oil, do you have any other suggestions? The stock oil is really good for 800-900 kms, beyond which it is useless.. :banghead:

Agip is available here..?? i tried but couldn't get.

Between iam working for the Agip's parent company and i would say they make good quality oil. but i dont know how much it would be suitable for our Indian conditions.

you can try Veedol. it is also one of the distributors for Hero.and also try Servo(petrol bulk guy claims that IOCL supply oil for hero and also for shell). between i am always wondering why many people says hero oil lasts only for 1000KM max..?? i can only assume that they might be running their bike on low quantity which leads to enormous vibrations.

i always liked hero oil for its revving friendly nature.. i have used till 5500Km and still i felt it keeps the engine smooth only thing is oil quantity shouldn't be dropped.
but now iam changing oil @ 3000-3500KM just an xtra care even though my bike runs smoothly without any vibrations.

whatever brand may be, but just stick to 10W30

P.S : may be other brands with grade 10W30 would do the same job as hero oil, but i am not sure whether it will not corrode the engine top gasket which leads to oil leakage often.

You mean Veedol Super Swift? I've tried to get it, its really hard to find..
As far as I know, for Hero the oil supplier is Tide Water Oil Co.
Trust me, the oil is a gem for 800-900 kms. After which I HAVE to change it. Whenever I used to change it every 1000 kms, it used to be black as tar..
I always kept the oil level in check, always used to keep it in max level. So what you assumed is wrong.

Anyways... any other suggestions for 10W30 grade??
