i got up this morning read this thread from start to finish and have ended up confused, the spark issues kinda scared me but then i also read that it has been addressed in the new C5s. The earlier owners aren't posting much now so i don't have a clue about the long term reliability. Looking to hear from you guys soon so I may get to make a decision.

    • Hello All,

My Dad has a 1980 STD Bullet and its very well maintained by him. I was planning to get some mods done on it. I would like to know if these mods are possible and how much it would cost.

For better braking, I was planning to install disc brakes of the C500 with 18" rim. Do I need to install Fork Legs also from C500?
      Whats the total cost involved?

As I am changing the front to 18", I would like to change the rear also to 18" of Classic. Is it possible? Cost?

I am not aware of the current sprocket configuration. As I am downsizing the rim size, the gears will be shortened. So which sprocket should I put to stabilize the gear changes ?

What is the cost of split seats?

My Bullet has CB point ignition (I think I used correct terminology, something they say as point set). Is it possible to use something latest so that I don't have to ask my mech to keep adjusting the point set now and then. I don't know why but it keeps screwing now and then.

      Thanks
      Shree

Go for the disc that are used in electras and TB they would be a direct fit instead of changing the wheel size ; regarding ignition yes you can have it done with the recent electric start kit available with RE itself, contact your nearest RE service center as these mods are common and done by RE SVC itself ; happy thumping

It'll not be easy to find a 18" from RE now as the latest C5 comes with 19" upfront.

They changed it because of stability and low ground clearance issue,The Brake foot paddle was hitting tarmac while braking on li'll bit leaning.

                          • Hi,

I am about to buy a classic 500 efi which is 6 months old and has just 337 kms on the odometer. Its done one service and I am getting a really good deal for it as the owner is moving up to a harley. This is going to be my first bullet (I previously owned a cbz-x for 3 years) so I am a bit apprehensive about being able to maintain it. I read through this thread and also one on teambhp and while both have been extremely informative it still leaves me a bit confused.

These are a few queries I have:

                            1) I see a lot of complaints regarding the build quality of the bike with regards to rusting, front forks being damaged, spark plugs, oil seals etc..., is it really that bad or is it just minor niggles that can be rectified with ease.

                            2) What tyres do people opt for (does the stock rims support tubeless?) since most reviews rate the stock tyres as being unable to handle well on wet/bad surfaces.

                            3) What oil works best?

                            4) With regards to the air filter I read that there are problems of water and dirt getting into the box and the best solution is to apply scotch tape around it, effectively closing it off.

                            5) Can I change the gear shifter to a toe only version?

                            6) What things should I keep in mind after taking possession of the bike (immediate service? run in period?)

A lot of questions I know but while there has been a lot of discussion I just can't seem to find the right answers so please humour me.

                            Thanks!
