Ive been following this thread ever since my younger brother picked up a lovely yellow RTR (love those tank extensions!) . I get to ride it on my occassional trips home. Have a couple of queries which I hope you RTR owners can answer

    1. Last week I was doing around 60 kmph when an auto started pulling out of a lane. Uncharacteristically I used the rear brake to slow down and then realised that the auto was pulling out of lane rapidly. Continued to use the rear brake and the tail fishtailed like hell with a quite movie-esque tyre screech. This on a totally dry freshly tarred road with no loose sand or anything else on it. Do you guys also face this problem ? How bad is it going to get in the rain ?

    2. Now that the first couple of servicings have been done I thought I would check the performace. Did a max of 105 kmmph but I had no confidence in the bike at that speed. I guess the lightness and flickability of the bike that makes it a marvel in the city contributes to this lack of confidence at high speeds. Not to mention the vibes are quite evident at that speed. I am way more confident at speeds upwards of 100 kmph on my P150 classic, can anything be done to increase stability at high speeds ? Will fitting a wider rear help ? Or is it just me ?

    3. Finding nuetral is a pain in the .... Everytime I have to shift to nuetral I have to take my eyes down to the clocks and kep looking for the elusive green 'N' It was never like this earlier. Any suggestions on what needs to be done ?

blipping the throttle everytime while downshiftin helps a lot in positive changes in my RTR FI..........

their is no excuse for justifying a negative attribute of a product as 'character'.
Julian If I am not wring what Aparajith means that the vibes are common in RTRs & are part of the package than a one off issue. Its same like the way P220 has useless RVMs or the way ZMA has pathetic side panels plastic

Hi neil here are my answers

      1) Like said earlier using only rear brakes should be avoided besides many have already commented that the rear tyre is not of a very high quality i.e a hard compound tyre

      2) I am surprised at that I currently have a p150 classic & an RTR & have owned P180 DTSi V1 & ZMA earlier. The RTR certainly feels more stable, may be its about getting used to the bike

      3) Again the shifting pattern being different is culprit you are used to shift all the way down for finding neutral & the 1-N-2-3-4-5 type of pattern in RTR can certainly be confusing if not using regularly, happened with me too when I switch from my 150 & still happens at some times

Nyway, finding neutral is sometimes a pain for me too, n my bike is 16 months old..
Yes it is sometimes, I agree

Can't admit that TVS messed up on the comfort and refinement part when building the bike eh? What, you fanboys get an orgasm with the vibes ?

And i don't see how this is O/T. If enough people decide to do something about it, TVS will fix the problem. First admit that vibes are a problem and not 'character'. Nuff said
Julain There are various civil ways of disagreeing with someone & calling a moron is certainly not one of them, I suggest you mind your tone.

Yes the RTR has Vibes problem, but then read this also.

Like I said earlier I have owned(bought) the P180 DTSi V1,ZMA, RTR, Classic p150(Bro's) & have not found any bike to be perfect all have some or the other problem, all the bikes have there pro's & cons. in an Ownership thread the idea is to realize which ones are problems that can be rectified at the time of service & which ones are common in RTR so that a new member doesnt panic.

I am willing to discuss this further albeit in a civilian manner

Wats wrong with unicorn is it boring....its boring for guys who dont love there rides have been riding a unicorn for 2yrs never in this time have felt so...all it depends on the rider...

PS:i own a rtr-fi too...i love its perf but still it bows for unicorn in most of the things...
Oh! Sir my intention was not to degrade any bike,
All I was trying to say that each bike has its own plus points and minuses! That contributes to the 'character' of the bike
The crazy acceleration and vibes are RTRs, while the butter smooth engine and smooth sound less moment is Unicorns...

          • Sai the foot pegs on rtr are rearsets & if you are putting them on Apache you will have to change the gear shifter as well.

            • Ngk spark plug

Guys, after checking the NGK website I found the dealer in Kolkata, I purchased a NGK CR7EiX for my RTR as said in their website.

              After using it for only 50 km till date I found that;

              "+" Sign:
              1) Better smoothness.
              2) Low vibes.
              3) Change in sound, a more deepper, louder thub thub kind of.

              "-" Sign:
              1) Cold start problem, have to kick atleast 6 times, where in stock a single was enough.
              2) Slight higher idiling RPM speed.

The plug cost me Rs.413.00 where the MRP was Rs.550.00.

Kindly suggest, wheather is it ok for the bike or should I switch to the stock. If is there any other pros & cons you fill after using the same for some times.
              Please advice.

                • If you only want toe type gear shifter then you can get it made, would be lot easier than changing all the parts

actually i wanted the entire assembly because aesthetically it is so much more better. and it functions well too. the present brake lever is such an eye sore... and also i have fallen in love with the rtr's riding posture... so yeah....

Unless u like to ride hard or live in rainy areas theres no need of tire change

but if u change tyres at begining u can also get a good exchange price as ur tyres would be unused n can be sold for a good sum of rs

                            My advice -change them!!

the tyres are bad no doubt and if you're thinkin of changin them then my advice is to go for zappers and upsize front with 100/80 and rear with 110/90........
