if the rating is 140/60 , width is 140 mm , thickness is 60% of 140 which is 84 mm .

    220's tyre - thickess is 80% of 120 which is 96mm

EDIT : also just think about tata safari as its tyre specs are -175/65 R 14 .. is it only 65 mm profile rubber?

      • @flyingabhi: Any OE of any bike has been designed by the manufacturer to give the bike the optimum performance coupled with stability and looks. I think the P220 wouldnt perform to its best when you fiddle with the back tyre..mileage drop, Top speed drop are some of the immediate consequences

Yes. That was a momentary lapse in thinking. Office hour JSP coding and Xbhp posting is quite difficult at the same time.

Regarding putting FZ 16 tire, I agree with vinfreak.

the mileage might also come down.. the handling might also suffer. the only benefit I see is in the looks.

            thanks for all the replies

i've read that the FZ16 tires are lighter so that's one advantage.
also if the top speed goes down coz of lesser dia then acceleration should go up...
anyway, suggest some options for the rear tire
            please mention the price also

              • ^^^but thats not the case always...
i had K&N fitted on my pulsar180 and it was great!
also there are other accessories also like performance exhause, lighter alloys etc. which may be better than tha stock, although i've never used any

Aftermarket exhausts or air filters would give you what you desired. Yes, it performs better than stock. But it requires more out of your engine. Sometimes, aftermarket exhausts if put with complete disregard, would effect the engine parts. I think Joel would know more about this.

                  • what i'm trying to say is that you cannot just say that a change is bad because a bike has already been optimally designed by the manufacturer and thats the best combination

A change might result in better performance.. but that might involve a few "trail and error" sessions.. which might prove a bit costly and a bit of a headache as well.

Go ahead with changes if you want.. but let us know of the results (for the benefit of others).
