Hi mitesh... the vibrations you are talking about are of which type? I mean where are they felt'heard? From the faring, footrests or engine? Conesets leading to vibes.. hmm.. need to check! Where did you get it done? SK OR sai svc?

@all: my bikes clutch was giving me a hard time past couple of days... it'd become very very hard making my hands pain.. applied wd40 but no use.. it became so worse that engine wud heat up more than needed and once even gear slipped from 5th to 4th automatically.. thankfully, i was just doing 45kmph :P in general bike became very very harsh all of a sudden... i thought it was time to get clutch cable replaced... but then today, i sprayed wd40 onto the portion where the cable terminates (or goes into) above the engine near oil-filler cap. And wonder what? Clutch became smoother than butter!! Noticed there was a mix of hard water stains + somewhat rust formation on that part.. so one more solution i got through self-learning... many must know this, but i learnt it today!! Hope someone finds it helpful enuf!

My question is: Whats general lifetime of a clutch cable? When to replace/lubricate (how?) Can it be done with a local mechanic? Any specific brand/type to look for? General precautions? Whats petrol wash of clutch cable? Too many but m just curious to know!
Glad that xBHP is back... and glad to be back on xBHP!!! :D

Lol.... Shiva did such good things... I thought hes only a sad mechanic like the others, hes just interested in checking the brake lights n stuff, I remember screaming at him for not checking my engine... and just checking bike's electrical parts .

I have to get my bike's head opened and that gasket thing applied.... costly Motul oil leaking

I will ride and see ur bike... pakka.... btw.. am very much used to riding a complete(or I think so) vibe-free 220....
Pretty costly servicing u got there man..... btw... how much for the Cone set and labour for changing that, and time taken ??

A faulty cone set usually results in funny handling not vibes.

And 2354 is a huge amount for a free service. What was the details of the things changed?

Your WD40 incident is funny man! It really won't be reason for issue getting resolved I guess...but then who knows 220 is phunny bike!

About clutch cables, well its all dependent on wear and tear. So there is rule of thumb lifetime for a clutch cable it can last you anywhere from 3K-50K. My clutch cable snapped around the 11K mark, and might I add this in the middle of a desolate highway. So I usually recommend changing the clutch cables at 10K, but then a lot depends on your use, dust conditions prevailing and luck!

Replacing the clutch cable is easy and can be done by you also. No precautions as such. But you can use WD40 to clean the part where the cable is fit into the clutch lever and after WD40 has done its job you apply 2-3 drops of oil(Engine oil will also do).

        • @all ...as per Shiva ( the guy at Sai Svc who exclusively works on P 200 and P 220 ) said that the cone was not just faulty and but also loose too the ring on the cone set had lost its treading causing it to humm too much when the bike was running at high speeds, removing the faring, the fork and the replacing the cone and refitting them back has done the trick. I am not saying the vibes has completely gone but the difference is considerable. He said he has checked the balancer timings and it seems to be fine guess I will have to tell him again to check and maybe get it done too. If he doesnt do it then prolly I will get it done from Pune.

Umm the 5th service wasnt free man. I have lost my service booklet and so it was a paid service.

I will post the list of things done once im home. I am work and im xbhing

Phunny as it may sound... but its true!! I got instant results... it had jammed due to hard water deposits and rust on the said part... i think wd40 eased up the formations and lubricated it.. that did the trick

                • So finally after keeping my bike with SC for 2 days its come out with all its glory

They changed the clutch plates which was causing issues at high revs.even thou my bike had done only 12.5K the worn out clutch happened fairly early. So i asked the mechanic thr and he said it looks like the oil is not doin its job.... i was like i use Motul 300V FL which is the best for wet clutch.
But then he explained : he took a metal plate and at one side put some 2,3 drops of motul and other side the oil which comes at SC, then he kept the plate in inclined position for some time, to my surprise motul dripped off farily easily/quicky but the SC oil stayed for much longer since its far thicker than motul.
Then he explained, this is wat happens to the clutch plates when the bike is at stand still. And since wet clutch plates needs to be wet all time it hampers the performance.

Now am not a tech guru, but is this correct ?

Then i went out for a long ride about 80Kms and the engine felt butter smooth
I also got Amway silicone gaze and Formula 1 for plastics , bike looks really new now
Aprilia RS 125 or Honda CB400 Vtec ..... which one will it be ??? I think its gonna be NINJA ZX 6R :-)

                  • ^^ Motul being a good engine is proving to be its downfall. First the head leaking issue, now this maybe its too good a oil for the Pulsar engines!

Try the Motul Mineral Oil if possible sometime, trust me you will be genuinely surprised by the results.

So what are your plans? Sticking to 300V or moving to something else?

                    • ^^^ as of not its Motul , but the mech said use it for another 2K , then change it.

Again, i donno whether Motul 300V is bad or not, am just asking if the explanation given by mechanic is correct.

                      U use Motuls mineral ? is it 20W50 ?

If Motul 3000T 20W50 Mineral oil was available in 1 Ltr. cans I would use that only, but its only available in barrels which the PBK at Chennai was using.

                        I use the Motul 5100T Semi-Synth for a few reasons :-
                        1. Its single ester based, so no leaking head issues.
                        2. I prefer replacing the oil as often as possible ala Mineral, but due to Motul's Mineral oil's limited availability and slightly small drain period I opted for a Semi-Synth.
                        3. IMHO, spending double the cost for a Fully Synthetic oil, when the semi-synth lasts almost 80% of as much a fully synth lasts din't appeal to my VFM oriented pocket.

Regarding you mech's explanation: Well what he showed you seems to be pretty good way of looking at it, Motul with its superb lubrication capabilites will slip of easily. But one things comes to my mind, isnt the clutch plate wholly immersed in oil? If so, the situation that your mech showed you, wouldnt really be too much of a problem.
