You need to do two things,

    1. Get it tuned
    2. Check if the flow of fuel is correct through the pump

For both these you need to go to a PBK!

Check here for plugs - NGK I see a dealer in Cuttack.

Which thermal sensor do you need exactly ? There are two on the Fi (and Dts-i) .

Thank you for relpying. I need the sensor which is conneted on the block. On the dtsi it regulates the auto choke i think.

I will look in to the dealer.

It is the air temperature sensor that you're wanting (auto choke), which is connected to the carburettor in the DTSI, the other is the engine temperature sensor at the bottom of the bike.

              Cheers!

Yes, however the dtsi one cant be used on the fi as both sensors are different.

My bike was unused for almost 15 months (had a brief and acrimonious marriage with a CBR). Over the last few weeks I have got a basic service done, replaced the battery, a few relays, brake pads and have been giving it a DIY paint job as time pass. But, to my dismay, I see two big problems

                    1. Rust ! The bike is almost 6 years old now and i see rust in almost all nuts/pipes and even a bit on the tank outer edges. Is it the same with others ? What should i do. I was thinking of sanding and then painting them over.

                    2. Mileage!! The mileage seems to have dropped below 25. Even with the worst of throttle wringing I never managed less than 30kmpl previously. My bike is running a Joel FFE which has changed the characteristics of the bike. The bottom end torque has gone for a toss and the bike misfires a bit. The mid range and the top has become awesome though and it feels very rev happy (The sound is another thing. My office commute feels like an amusement park/street hawk kind of session every day . So much better than the inertness of the CBR)
On the stock exhaust the bike used to feel bogged down after 7k rpm.

                    Gentlemen! Solutions/Thoughts please ?

                      No help with solutions.

Just a thought. You sold off your 15 month old CBR and still have your 6 year old Pulsar. WOW!!!

Cheap DIY rust removal with no care for looks. Perfect way to go about it!

Joel's FFE must have finally taken a toll on your bike. How many km done till now on the odo, with and without the FFE? Sounds like you having a major fuelling issue! Try using someones stock exhaust and see how it goes.

Fell out of love with the CBR pretty quickly. It was, as many other people have said time to time, uninvolved. A bike which hated motion. The pulsar is unpretty, rickety, not as refined, commuterish and definitely slower - but much more fun on the run. Also, the tiny issue of a 390 (Bajaj willing) or a 650(if i can digest that black "kal muha" fazer look)

Without Joel FFE - around 59k. With Joel FFE - around 3k over 1.5 years.

Will give a try with the original exhaust to check if the mileage gets any better. The Joel FFE might be creating some problems, but sure is a lot of fun on the run. People check their rear view mirrors desperately and sometimes give way. Well two riders(wifey as pillion) with oversized funky lids does look odd!

I remember the Upgrading from P220 thread of yours before you bought the CBR. I whole heartedly denied considering the CBR an Upgrade. But then some people just don't listen

I'd personally suggest you to overhaul your carb for good, and work on a thorough cleaning or if you have the FI why not try replacing the pump and just general ECU reset. Regarding RUST, that's a given right. I mean ALMOST on any bikes it's a close friend. I'd suggest you to sand them properly and then opt for a good paint job, because painting over them is not such a rewarding idea.

P.S. Why don't you try the Coca-Cola method, but a can of Coke dabble it over the rusted exposed parts, give it a few seconds and sand/wipe them, you're all set. If it works for Russian cars, why not our bikes.

I'd second you wholeheartedly, yes apart from the little stints I've had with a handful of bikes I've had, including the CBR, I just can't get off of the sound, the vibration, the whine the 220 makes. No matter what bikes I ride, (R15 excluded purely for darn riding position) I just want to get back on the 220. But there's something to this machine! Something!

Will give a try with the original exhaust to check if the mileage gets any better. The Joel FFE might be creating some problems, but sure is a lot of fun on the run. Aao Thakur aao ... Welcome back

                                1. I have mild rusting spots at some places on the frame, but nothing serious. My tank is fine, but its only about 3.5 years old. For repainting, ideally you would need to sand down the whole tank and then repaint it.

2 & 3. Get rid of the FFE. Go back to stock, check your plugs for their state of tune. Depending on that you may need to have the bike retuned. Also your plugs may need a change. Keep the FFE for short riding sprees where you want to have a little fun, but for regular riding time will recommend sticking to stock. All the misfiring could be due to poor plug state + out of tune issues.
