well...the chamber connected below is a connected by a l-shaped pipe.....basically the box/chamber is a resonator unit which is electronically tuned before fitting it on the silencer/exhaust pipe/assy....since its a rectangular box and flat...the exhaust produces a lean sound compared to free flow exhausts...while the engine is running and u put ya hear chose to the unit(without burnin ya face) ul hear mild sounds.....similar to what u hear when u put a shell to ya ear.....that's the swirling ...since its a resonator...it has to make sounds...this in turn changes the entire function n flow of the emission...so since the gas is trapped in the chamber and manipulated vis-a-via swirl characteristics...it provides a pull torque....by which the engine does not need to provide that certain torque to move...therefore great movement at low speeds on high gears....its not exactly a pre-exhaust chamber....but its a resonator...a tuning unit(not electronic.....but analog{obviously!!}).....................

By the way...was riding to the main city....a 20 mins ride...when the bike suddenly stopped and wouldn't start again....the ignition would crank up but wouldn't start the bike....then realized that the fuel pump wasn't working...so I checked the spark plugs.....tried shorting off the starter relay...still no progress...this was at 9:00 am...(and at that time...in goa...there aint a single shop open) ...waited till 9:40...walked the bike to the village market.......spoke to local mechs....well..they readily denied to try their skills on a 220...(I was both happy{THESE ANADI'S AND TOUCH MY BIKE??} at the same time exhausted and dismayed....plus pushin the bike took its toll on me....) then called my friends to pull the bike to the Bajaj workshop(more of garage) close to where I live....was a 15 min ride...friends come by 11:30 am.....and they tried "dhakka" starting the bike....but whell....still no progress....then reached the Bajaj mech....he tried all he could....realized the starter relay was not supplyin current.....had to be changed....but didn't have the part...went to a friend's garage....local one..they had the avenger relay...which is a single socket...and apparently the same fit for p220 too.........ignition was a bit better....but still no progress with the bike...I kept tellin the mech to check the pump and the injector...but well..........."nahi saab....aapko kya pata hain?? who problem nahin hai...." then I called the senior Bajaj engineer from the north region of goa....and he told me that...there are 11 sensors for a 220 fi.....so even if a single sensor has gone kaput due to water or anything(note...I had washed my bike the prev day) the ecu senses a engine failure...n to protect the engine from further damages....shuts down the startup thru other methods.....then the mech gave up sayin tellin me to take it to the workshop or the bigger outlet of theirs.....then by the time it was 4 :30 pm...we had to take the bike back to the city...so another half an hour ride thru "dhakka" movement...(can u believe...a cd dawn could pust athe p220 to 60 speeds?? wow :P ) ....on reachin the centre.....got a job card done...n now the bike lies there like a cancer patient for its mri scan n further diagnosis....................... ...ps....the display console kept displaying " ecu 3.9" any idea bout this??

Sounds to me like you have blown a fuse. Did you check both the fuses?

Its been ages since I this ECU 3.9 error came up, I have not forgotten was the cause for this. Cross your fingers, I hope you have not blown your ECU.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

          THE END

My bike is now reaching 29k on the odo.
Mileage is also very consistent and so is the performance despite having worn out sprockets.
i was an unable to check the TOP SPEED as the roller machine in chennai PBK is not working.
I was shocked to see some sensor light coming up and later came to know that it was CHOKED AIR FILTER.Quite amazed that an bajaj electronic product works well after 5 years.
It vanished once i changed the air filter.

I think you underestimated a Bajaj after all.

Disconnect and reconnect your battery properly. ECU 3.9 is a loose connection error.

My never ending mind phuck moments with PBK!

I had posted about a leak from the fuel pump a few days back right after replacing the pump if you guys remember.

Post that, I was on a 5 day ride last to last weekend. In the middle of the ride, the leak started all over again. But in smaller quantities this time, so I continued my ride and got back to BLR.

So last this Sunday I go to PBK to fix this leak, since this a actually a 15 minute job .. After sitting for 4 hours with the leak unresolved it was finally figured out that the threads of the bolts on which the pump has been mounted have sheared off.

And the icing on the cake is that they don't have spare bolts... and on further research none of the automotive shops in the vicinity have those bolts!

Finally today evening they found the bolts!

I sold him an year ago. Dont know the present condition of the bike. I sold it with the thread as it is, as I forgot to change it later.
