Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi

    yesterday, while trying to start the bike in the morning, the display went blank and showed ECU 3.9 or something at the bottom of the display
    i switched off the ignition and then tried again after sometime when it started normally, now its working fine...
    but i'm hell scared to go long distance on the bike now for it may refuse to start at any place and there are no service stations for 220 everywhere
    the bike is awesome in every way except for this unreliability and absence of service network to complement it

      I've had the same problem once, bro. That means your connection to the battery is loose. Your case might be a slightly loose connection which might be fully disconnected any time. Please visit any good service station to be on the completely safe side. I do not know Gurgaon, I am sure there are people here to help you out. As far as ECU 3.9 goes, it means loose connection.

          As pranay mentioned it is because of loose connection with battery, thus the ECU refuses to start displaying itself.
          Again all these things should have been put in the manual as "troubleshooting" as these are small things which the bike itself displays saying somethings wrong, So u cant blame the bike here for unreliability.
          Aprilia RS 125 or Honda CB400 Vtec ..... which one will it be ??? I think its gonna be NINJA ZX 6R :-)

            • Guys... I am a proud owner of Pulsar 220. I bought it on September 12, 2008. I have one major problem with my 220 and that is the idle rpm drops itself from 1.5k to 1k. So cold start is a big headache. The bike tends to get switched off by itself. As my bike is yet in break in period, I am scared to raise the accelerator during the first start as the engine wont be set to take that much shock all of a sudden. Any ideas on what can be the best sollution for this??? And one more problem is that my rear disc tend to create squeaking sound almost every now and then. Please do let me know if you have sollution regarding this.

              • ^^^ hi ashwin am not sure about the idle RPM check with PBK as early as possible also thr is no need to giv acc when u start the bike.
                About the dics noise am on a slightly changes/clips on disc pads and using it from past two days so will use it for another 4-5 days to check if noise comes back, if not then i wld recommend asking for this clip.

                @praful : isnt graphite polymorphed carbon ... so then cleaning ?? not sure....

                  I am posting after a long time. Well my bike has completed 21000 kms and recently as it completed 1 year in aug 2008 I did a few cosmetic changes as well some minor mods. Would be great if you ll can have a look at the pics and suggest if anything would look better on the bile. O by the way luckily in the last 10000 kms the bike has behaved amazing no issues at all. So 220 ROCKS!!!!!!!!

                  Some mods very small though

                  1) V- Rubber tyres
                  front 110
                  rear 140
                  2) Karizma 40teeth sprocket
                  3) NGK Spark Plugs
                  4) MLG Ignition Cables
                  5) Rear Mudguard removed

                  Cosmetic changes
                  1) Painted the alloy wheels and rear shocks in black color
                  2) Front and Rear Disk Calipers painted in Golden Color

                    • Well thanks for your reply but the stickers look way diff when you see the bike in flesh and the tires are very good. Amazing grip, front costed me 2500 and rear was around 4500. I had to take the chain guard off after fitting the rear tire and the top speed has come down to 135( with a pillion havent tried without a pillion).

                      As far as engine performance is concerned I have been using NGK plugs and MLG Cables for the last 10000 kms and the engine is good. After the change of sprocket the pick up has increased and yes the karizma sprocket was suggested by Bhuvan. You can say that the pick up which was lost due to fat tyres has come back. I get a nice milage of 30-32 city and 35 highway. CHEERS!!!!!

                      • @hypergamer: I didn't quite get the funda behind removing the half-chain cover? That looks good as it is, why remove it? Isn't there any way the chain cover can remain on the bike (inspite of the fat rear)?

                          Even I love the half chain cover but the rear tyre was cutting the chain cover as well the tyre was getting affected so had to take it offf!!!!!

                            i visited the service center yesterday and according to mechanic, he has tightned the loose connection. hope i don't have to see the error message again

                                I have a Red P220.

                                I want to get coloured in Yellow.

                                I really want good shining finishing.
