K&N Filter

what does fitting in a filter like K&N do to the bike,..
I have a few queries:
1.How does it actually work?
2.What are the changes in acceleration, power delivery,top speed and FE??
3.Does it have any bad effects to engine life?
4.Which is the best filter for zma?
Please tell me the pros and cons about fitting in air filters..

K&N is used to increase air flow over the original airbox on the vehicle.

If you want the engine to last long then don't go for K&N.The stock paper air filter is best for Karizma.
The stock HH oil wears out in about 600 to 700 Kms, and I had seen here that HH SVC tops up the oil and not changing it.Check your oil color ....if it is blackish then it had deteriorated.Change with any JASO MA2 20w40 oil..from what you say your FE may be related to traffic and driving style.

That tends me to pull up a question though it might sound lame. When HH has recommended 10w30 specification for the engine oil, why there is leverage to go for 20w40? I assume HH has a reason for coming up with that specification. So is 20w40 grade oil being used by many?

OT:- I'm going to ask Delhi/Haryana guys to get ZMA for me.

Here HH gives some nice sugar coated cr*p!

It is important to understand that the Karizma till 2005 used 20w40 only, and had no issues.Between 2005 and 2006 10w30 was used and found to help the engine to start and rev better...but the problem is that the oil due to heat stress looses its quality and becomes blackish sooner than 20w40.
My guess for the 10w30 change is the oil spec from japan or US or such cold country could have been thought to be better for our climate,by HH,without taking the heat into account, ...
If HH isn't keeping up it's word better to take them to task.

I got mine in february. A 2011 ZMA R. It costed me 96k

with accessories and a waiting period of three weeks.

1.I wont risk my engine life for a K&N filter, but the only reason i had an idea about filters is the sad exhaust sound from my bike its jus like that of a fiero (dub dub dub)

. I really dont know what to do when all the other ZMAs which are 2 or 3 years old sound like brand new.
Please help me out

2.I checked the engine oil and it is dark yellow, good for sometime more.

will get it changed to 20W40. which brand do u suggest guys????

Can anyone confirm that ZMA-R will sport with new sticker job? I got this news from HH Regional Office who had presided over the launch mid April 2011 guess in North. I wonder if anyone staying in Delhi/Haryana could confirm seeing any new outlook than what been posted on this forum at the showroom nearby. Least I would not listen to the HH Regional office excuse for delay if info untrue.

Yes I understand what you mean...even my 2007 bike sounds weak compared the grunt of other same cc bikes, but it doesn't come in the way of performance.....People are spending huge amounts of money to have a silent exhaust, which ZMA already has...Some times when other ZMA goes past me in traffic I could barely hear it...
I like a silent smooth bike( I am an acoustic consultant) and so like to keep it that way...

Go for 20w40 confirming to JASO MA 2,Gulf pride 4T Plus, Shell AX series, Motul.......Mineral oil.

Can anyone tell me where i can find an experienced mechanic for zma r in Bangalore preferably near indranagar. My bike had 3200 km on the odo and jus completed another service at HH near Mekhri circle. Let me share the experience.

Left the bike for free service at 8:45 Am. I was asked to collect it at 5:30 Pm. So when i went to pick it up i was shocked to see that the bike wasn't serviced at all apart from washing

. After some shouting at them they decided to service it as i decided to wait. In next 30 min the bike was ready

. Out of that 10 min i could see the mechanic stuggling to fit the chain cover as i have 4.00 M45 at the rear.

It does'nt appear anything has improved after the service.The avg is still 29kmpl no matter how i ride. I feel there are some flat spots at certain rpm's. Bike hesitates to go faster than 115km. The bike doesn't respond properly while blipping the throttle, it goes like brr brr and then rpm rises.

I badly need to get it tuned by an expert. Help !
I think i can do it my self too but i can't seem to locate that af screw.

Its 92k at HH show room near Mekhri circle. No waiting period.

Since your present knowledge is not adequate to do DIY best to get it done with A.S.S, till you learn...I think you have M 45 with 4. 18 profile, which is wider than stock.This might be one of the reason for lack of response.A wider tire has a larger foot print increasing rolling resistance....This apart your FE seems to be poor...indicating rides of over 5 K RPM most of the time.The hesitation you had mentioned could be due to improper AFR. If the air filter is clogged due to dust, grime then also the problems you had mentioned can happen...get it checked at SVC and get your bike tuned with a CO tuner....

I have both M45's and i get an FE of 40kmpl constantly.
ANd it isnt heavy unlike Sirac.
