  • Oil in Air filter box..

To all having sleepless night over the indicated place inside the ZMA air filter box.....IT IS NORMAL TO SEE OIL THERE.
The tube that had been indicated is the crankcase breather(ventilation) tube ...it relieves the pressure in crank case, called BLOW BY, built up every time combustion takes place in the engine...The crank case also breathes through this tube ,so it is connected to the air filter box AFTER the air is filtered , to ensure clean air is available to crank case. When the engine is running one can feel both vacuum and pressure...Oil at this place cane be wiped dry once in 3 to 5 K Kilometer...the oil accumulation will be directly proportional to the driving habits and the age of the engine.
Faster ,and higher the RPM, or older the engine..more oil can be seen.

On service the filter is sprayed with oil which helps to attract and hold dust to the filter...it could be the extra oil dripping from the filter.Clean it completely; the air filter box and check after a few more days...if problem persists contact local mechanic immediately.....
Oil spraying to catch the dirt particles is done on primitive and less efficient cotton or foam type air filters. ZMA/CBZ all have paper filter which are dry type and filters 98 to 99% of dust.If they are sprayed with oil it will clog and stop air flow.

          • few Qs re Karizma

            Guys
I am considering getting a Karizma. So here are a few Qs.

            My requirements:
            a. Safety. I am somehow hooked to this notion that broad rear tyre = safety.
            b. Comfort for rider and pillion. Easy riding stance. (which is why I am not inclined towards RTR 180, though I would like it very much otherwise).
            c. Good pickup
            d. Excellent stability and handling.
            e. serviceability - can't travel across the city to get a P220 serviced.

            1. Are the ZMA and R the same?
            2. Can I fit the ZMR (the one with full fairing) 's rear gas shocks to the R?
            3. Can I fit the speedo console ?
            4. Which is more comfortable? ZMA or R ? Or are they about the same? How about pillion comfort?

I might go for a new Karizma R or a used ZMR. Any good mechanics in Bangalore to check the condition of a used ZMR ?

            Thanks

            • Hello PSR sir,

Its the same with me i too dont like a loud and noisy bike,.. i like it performing silently. This is the only reason i didnt like the exhaust sound i'm getting on my ZMA.
It sounds like a sad suzuki fiero(dub dub dub). Please help me out guys ,.. how will i get back the charming sound of karizma back,What can cause the sound to change? What should i do to fix it?

                1. Are the ZMA and R the same? Initially HH came with Karizma, then subsequent called ZMA and then ZMA-R (correct me if I'm wrong). FI version is called ZMR (full fairing).
                2. Can I fit the ZMR (the one with full fairing) 's rear gas shocks to the R?
                3. Can I fit the speedo console ? I would think it would require alterations to the stay, electricals etc.
                4. Which is more comfortable? ZMA or R ? Or are they about the same? How about pillion comfort? ZMA and ZMA - R are the same, if you mean ZMR, then I would think it is better take a ride to know. Pillion comfort in ZMA-R is good since i have traveled.

I might go for a new Karizma R or a used ZMR. Any good mechanics in Bangalore to check the condition of a used ZMR ?

                Thanks

If you have tried out most of the possible do jobs to get the exhaust note, but in vain, then go for NEW exhaust !

EDIT: Sagar, Is yours a new ZMA-R? I would go back to A.S.C to find out the issue.

                • Karizma's sound with air-filter box cover removed,it sounds like K&N.

                  • Which tyres do you guys recommend to replace the stock?

I have a '05 ZMA run about 21k and they tyres look past their life.

Looking for "good", "budget" tyres (will probably sell my bike by end of the year) and would prefer "decent" wet grip. Hope its not a contradiction in terms
                    I like 'em Naked

                    Blah Blah Blah!

Reason is not automatic. Those who choose not to recognise it, can't be conquered by it.

Basically, not interested in making modifications. So, stock or any other size that i can fit without too much trouble.
