      • Zmaiiiing happily!

Hello guys, jus completed 3100 kms on my Zma r 2011. done with two services. even tested the top speed with a pillion , its 122 on the speedo with great stability the bike feels so strong yet so refined completely happy with the performance.
but i have a few concerns,.. last time i was advised here in xbhp about the afr screw and the number of turns ideally is 4. so got it set to 4, but now my bike sounds like a SUZUKI FIERO :O and its also returning a low average of only 30. ( i was getting 42 before the 2nd service) and the acceleration is also comparitively low.. Please advice me on what to do guys!!!!

          Please observe the following:
          1. How long since you changed the engine oil in Kms, and which grade ?A 20 W 40 rather than recommended 10w30 gives a better performance and engine will not heat up much and oil remains stable for a longer time .
          2. Check your air filter and if needed change it...it is one of the reason for low FE.
          3. Check the Plug's color....the center electrode should be light tan incolor..if it is darker your AFR setting is rich.
My pre-owned ZMA had low FE, and after change of air filter and AFR setting is now giving 34 in city and 42 in high way.My plug is light tan.

          • the tripmeter and the clock on my 05 zma is resting every time i turnoff the ignition, this used to to happen in few days before but now its happening regularly.

Is my battery dying, is there a way to confirm this.

I had a big accident few months back in which all the front end (both fairings, headlight, mudguard had to be changed and the button that adjusts the clock was not functioning so i got the HH mechanic to open it and fixed and since then its ok)
could it be the defect of my speedometer console?

Also my bike came with an amron battery. Which battery make should i go for and should i keep the stock ratings (i dont have anyother electrical part installed)
The HH guy told me not to go for maintenance free batteries as they do not last long, is it true??
i am growing old, but not up!

Clock resetting means you battery is dead, get it recharged from a good battery shop. Had the same problem before and it solved after getting my battery charged.

I don't think so,Do you experience anyother problem except the trip resetting?

Get Amaron 9Ah MF battery.Need a little mod to get it fixed, but recommended by many ZMA owners.

The HH guy told me not to go for maintenance free batteries as they do not last long, is it true??
AFAIK Amaron 9Ah battery has a warranty of 60 months, that is 5years,You will get it replaced or repaired if the battery goes wrong within 5years. 5 years is a good value for a battery..

              • its only 30 months guarantee and 30 months warranty...
Full replacement is only till 30 months. Its still better than what is offered by many others.

But there is a point i wanted to share that the 9Ah battery is not made for ZMA its a PULSAR battery. The no of cells on the 9Ah is less than the no of cells on the stock battery. I wanted to know if this makes any difference.

I have been running the battery myself and have always recommended the same to everyone i know for it being a true value for money...

                • I would suggest AMCO/Exide is better. Amaron offlate develop some problem. I have heard many complaining about Amaron in 2 stroke section. It's better to give some search before deciding on Battery for the bike.

For any automotive battery the voltage per cell is 2.Volts. So for 12 volts you have 6 cells in series . For increasing the current capacity, the plate size is increased...so any 12 Volts sealed or maintenance free battery the number of cells will be 6 only.

                        • @psr: Sir even was confused on the same....
recently i had my battery replaced under warranty. i had bought the battery in Delhi and got it replaced here in Bangalore from the main dealer. He said that the battery is not for ZMA and can be fitted only on SS Pulsar's. On probing he told me the reason i have mentioned in my earlier post.

@abhash : No problem what so ever. My bike sometimes used to stay un-used for weak and the battery was never discharged. i have never needed to recharge the battery in the 30 months that i have used it...

The main reason is that 9 AH battery width is more, and only 7 or 6 AH battery will sit ,and THE RETAINING CLAMP can be tightened...But if you look through the thread many have fitted 9 AH in Karizma and have no issues. On the Technical front a 9 AH battery must be charged at a higher current level than a 6 or 7 AH one...The battery sales people do not know of the capability of the Karizma which has a max capacity of 15 Amps.... The main Battery Manufacturer tells them during their 'Technical ' meets about batteries and to ensure that they don't mix up, give strict instruction as to which is for which vehicle....I have had many ' encounters ' with them , and i know this is what they are told in the training. • hello guys,
I completed 1200kms on my bike and done with only 1 service. I was riding it below 50 km/h until 1000kms, after that i attained max. speed of 90km/h twice. The gear shifting was hard and i got it resolved after the service. Also high beam is not so effective and it focus for the sky. My friends told me to positon it correctly and it'll focus for the road. I feel the bike is very comfortable to ride and i'm happy with it's performance..
1 week after the service,my bike's clock was resetting when i turned on my engine and also self-start was not working. The battery(Exide-7AH, maintainence free) was dead and after long 3 weeks(they said Exide service is poor) i had my bike's battery replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the quick reply sir,
1.I got the bike serviced when the odo was at 2503 and its good to go for atleast 2500kms,.. at present the bike's odo reads at 3200, so its only been 700 kms after the oil change. and i'm using HH recommended oil from idemitsu 10W30.
                                2. Got the Air filter checked at HHSC and as they tell it is good.
3.Even got the plug checked and it is at ideal state(normal tan colour)

even after all these my FE is low, less acceleration, and the bike's exhaust sounds like that of a fiero(dub dub sound). the HHSC center guy tells me that the catalytic converter has opened up and the sound will stay like this!!
