  • The quality of the chain Matters ..Be it with the guard on or Off.

I have an R15 and a ZMa.. And maintain both the same way.

R15 -- DID O ring chain and Open--Its run 40k and its with stock sprokets and chain.
Wash and lube it every weekend.. Will last till 50k with ease.. Thats the quality of the chain.. No Loud noise even if Open.

ZMa - 19k with chain Guard .. 520 Pitch ordinary heavy rolon chain.. Makes hell noise even when the bike is Just rotated on main stand .Not oly mine , brand new bikes too.
Having the chain guard ,reduces the sound to a certain extent.. Avoids it getting dirty/mucky very quickly.
Lubing interval is longer compared to an Open chain.(By 200 kms or so).
Damage on sproket teeth is lesser to a large extent.

Even with all this the zma' chain will last oly till about 25k .. Not more.
I defintely want a lighter , stronger and quieter, chain and better sprokets for the zma.

@Racedeveloped / other bangalore Guys, U stay close to any HH showroom?

By any chance did you check if R15 chain/sprocket can be a retro on ZMA?

P200/220's rear sprocket is a straight fit but the O-Ring chain of Pulsar's will be short by 2 or 3 links. And again no comments on quality.

so you're saying that that part is not available.?

is there an alternative for the above part.
btw, it is the 7th one.

Yes,here i cant get that part alone. If it is not available at your place ,then took it to the svc, they will get it in anyway.

I would think ZMA is a performance touring bike. Your question would have been more appropriate if that was pointed towards a commuter. The new ZMA sports in cosmetic change and there is zilch change to the engine, so would think it would be the same mileage of previous model.

The Karizma of 2004 and before, had an aggressive ignition mapping to give better pickup, at the expense of mileage.Later from 2006 it was changed, and the Karizma R has a relatively passive ignition mapping..
The other change is to the number of friction plates in Karizma-R.The older non R models had 5 plates while from R the number of friction plates had been increased to 6 plates.
The timing chain had also been improved for longivity.
The ZMR timing chain is supposed to be the more stronger and cross compatible...No factual info on this available, so cannot confirm this.
The new ZMA s are giving much higher mileage than the older versions due to this.
Sane riding of 50-60 Kmph and proper maintenance can give close to 40 Kms/L easily.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I've read about the ignition in the pre-2004 models which used to be slightly advanced so the mileage aspect fell much below expectation. Also it is known that pre 2004 ZMA models had more Japanese components than the latter model.
