    • Last week, our hyderabad xbhp member, Sumit had a crash on his yellow Zma (just 200m away I had a crash few days before). It was raining and he had to brake hard to avoid somebody crossing the road all of a sudden. Obviously, the front tyre skidded and crashed. Of course, Sumit is out of danger with just very minor bruises. The gear shifting got locked and he could not move the bike. A mechanic came and took the bike to service station that night.

The next what we came to know as a shock for all of us. The second gear broke. The piston, crank shaft, and bore broke in to pieces. The chamber of the engine is very much intact.

The bright side of this is, the parts just costed only 6500 bucks (I expected a bill of around 15000).

I will post the pics soon.

          • What happened is, he was in the process of downshifting when he skidded. It might be that he accelerated while he downshifting when the gear is inbetween the shifts. A piece of metal broke from the gear and it entered the engine which caused the damage. This is what we finally concluded. Theoritically well possible and we are still in surprise.

My experience is once while i had a fall, my left leg itself bent the gear lever no other external force was applied, cos i felll to my right

Might be something similar happened in this case too, as our toes would be either on or below the shifter waiting to upshift/downshift..

But i am still surprised that this force is good enough to break internal engine components

With the kind of damage the mill has seen, im skeptical as to the condition of the cylinder walls
One would reckon that the broken piston's pieces as well as the crank's remnants would have severely scratched the cylinder walls. Since the engine is gonna be completely stripped, it would be advisable to examine the cylinder walls for any damage.

Hope Sumit and his Zma get back to their best soon. Here's wishing the two of em a speedy recovery !

                Cheers !

They have opened the whole engine. Seems the mechanic is a very able guy. I guess everything will be taken care of.

Here are some the pics. Ravkirin took the pics with his mobile cam, but forgot to put the cam a bit away from the object in close ups.

The component photos are all out of focus like you've mentioned Ravi. And as expected, there seems to be some damage to the bore.

Is the bike being fixed at a HH SC..?

                    • Engine oil

Guys i have given my Bike for 1st service today...i had informed not to change the Engine oil as i would be changing it myself in my home with CASTROL POWER 1 engine oil. Kindly guide me....should i stick to the OE Engine oil ( herohonda) or else its better to use POWER 1...? And how much oil does the engine takes after the drain..? I read somewhere its 1.2 liters...where has i guess POWER 1 comes in a 1 Liter pack...what should i do..? should i add 200 ML more oil..? or is it safe to use 1 Liter of oil..?

                      • Especially during run-in, it is important to stick with a 100% mineral oil such as the HH offering.

IIRC, it is advisable to switch to semi-synthetics after 10,000 km are complete. If you really want to use them, that is.

I'm of the opinion that for normal everyday use, the HH oil is best. Just change the oil more frequently, say every 1500 to 2000 km.

Your warranty goes void if you change the engine oil, thats what i learnt from the HHSC. I would suggest you to wait for a minimum of 3-4 services before going for CP1 semi syn oil.

I recently switched to Power1 10W30 and I can tell you right away that there's nothing to beat the smoothness of mineral oil.

I'm switching back to HH oil (or another 10W30 100% mineral oil) once I've used this oil for a couple thousand km. I've run less that 500km on it.
