Something to share with this group:-
History:- I've been running on NGK G-Power plug for past 4 months and never calculated the mileage part until recent time. PSR sir was also aware and asked why this change from stock, at that point of time I said, my RX is running on the same type of plug and feel good on the throttle. But never realized there would be some good FE returns on my ZMA.
Last weekend had filled out 10L petrol (exact) for the Chennai-Pondy-Chennai ride. Now, my trip meter ticking 350+ and still running on Main. Shall post the final figures when I actually hit the reserve.
It might not sound great for those who already enjoy good mileage, but for me 35+ kmpl is something new and I'm happy because there was no compromise on the power and it's going to benefit during my tours.RX100 1996 | Karizma 2004 | Karizma-R 2011 | RXZ 1999 | RX 135 1998 | RX 100 1993 | CBF150 2005 - 2011

^^^ Sriram, do you have the model number of the sparkplug you are using. My spark plugs due for a change and I would want to try the one you are using. You start the game with a full pot o' luck and an empty pot o' experience... The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck.

Sir am not experienced like yourself. But from an observers point of view, the zma cdi's stupid cause from past experiences I've come to the conclusion that sometimes the cdi acts as if its not aware of the bikes state, like during stalls after high speed runs the ignition have to be reset else the bike'd just crank and not start. Same goes with the rpm bouncing issue, it gets initiated when there are disturbances in petrol flow or when bike is forced to start without reseting, but doesn't go away even after the flow is reinitiated and only goes away when the ignition is rest.Originally posted by psr View PostCan you enlighten me how and why the ZMA CDI is a faulty unit ?..and list out the various faults associated with it ?...can the ignition be altered in any way to give better performance ?
When my bike was new an idiot kept cranking my bike when main got over without turning on reserve and it started but the rpm started bouncing but even after I turned the knob to reserve and applied throttle the bike kept on bouncing and finally had to reset.
Similar thing happened when Sarin bro rode my bike, he cranked the bike after it stalled without reseting the ignition and the bike started bouncing, which was a surprise for him cause the bike acts like its breathing on its on, then I said zma's are different from other bikes and did a reset and cranked the bike, it was running flawlessly.
Maybe am paying too much attention to details or my bikes faulty, anyways these are the issues that I've faced and have learned to live with.Motorcycling Experience:

Wow!, waiting for the exact figures. For that speeds 35+ is quite a justifiable figure

same happened to me, I thought the bike hit reserve
. Well only once though so I can't solely judge based on that.

oil & drain nut/bolt change; petrol leak from carbeurator
changed oil & drain nut bolt ("tappet hole cap" in parts catalogue) yesterday...
the bolt edges were rounded off & lost grip... so went to a lathe & told them to cut a straight line on the center of the bolt, so that it could be turned by a flat screwdriver...
just a small cut on the bolt & oil started pouring out (thanks to the extremely thin bolt)... then we tried & tried to remove the bolt with the flat screwdriver... still no luck... bolt is stuck like a rock... after a few tries with the screwdriver, the bolt itself tore apart in half (again thanks to the thin bolt)... we were like "WTF !!!"... half of the bolt & full thread is still in the engine, & now we have no grip...
now came the main guy at the lathe with his hammer... he gave a few knocks around the (half)bolt & it removed very easily... repalced it with new bolt (Rs20)...
changed oil to Honda Genuine 4 Stroke 10w30... filled 900ml & was at max mark on the dipstick...
didn't ride after that as i got a new problem... petrol leaking from carb drain tube... whenever i squeeze the tip of the tube, after a ride or even with engine on, i get atleast 4-5 drops of petrol in my hand... this is a fairly new problem as it was not there last week...
carb cleaning had been done before less than a month... drain screw is not loose... some amount of dried liquid gasket went into the tank by accident a few days back... i thought it would melt off... can it cause this?Last edited by blACk_pANthER; 02-24-2012, 10:22 AM.It does feel great to have a tank of petrol between your legs & explosions just under it.

ZMA's have a rev limiter and I think that's what you've experienced after 'high speed runsOriginally posted by ashwinprakas View PostSir am not experienced like yourself. . Recently I'd done some kms of high speed runs and had to rev hard to keep up (well , try to
) with Vineeth bro . I had to rev hard in 3rd gear and then again in 4th gear . I didn't look at the tacho but I was doing nearly 120 when I changed to 5th gear . Even then the rev limiter didn't cut in . Guess I wasn't revving that hard or maybe the duration I revved wasn't sufficient for the limiter to cut in . I don't think the cdi unit's faulty . Just because it gives you the maximum possible out of it without strain or stress doesn't mean there's something more to squeeze out of it (unless you mod it ). The ZMA is also said to have the 'air lock' problem when the engine dies on you for no apparent reason and if you open and close the tank it starts again . These are the only 'engine dieing on you ' problem that I've observed from the thread . I think that if you can get a cdi unit without a rev limiter cut off that's suitable for the ZMA then you can rev as much as you want (big bang ??
) .
By the way , is there a reset switch on the cdi unit ? How do you reset the cdi ?
BTW , I am looking for a 2nd hand CBZ ( old model without cat-con) exhaust . P.M. me if any one has one .sigpic
