  • my m45 cost me around 2000bucks last year, but m45 is no longer tobe available now ,which other brand suit for highway riding, softer in compound and lighter, sirac street and pirelli 120/90 sections are more wider than requirement for highspeed highway touring according to me.
i have installed iridium plug, when bike get hotter knocking sound increases, when i was returning from last trip,in traffic jam bike get shut off and refuse to start after some time it get fired like nothing wrong with it!,is that due to low tappet clearance??
i brought this bike 1months ago it covered 37k some pics of my bike

It will reduce...marginally..Go for the NGK G power plug and it will compensate for the drop..In fact in my ZMA Keihin carb I had blocked some of the Emulsion tube holes and made the AFR rich..but now i am getting almost the same FE...in fact it had gone up from about 40 to 41 Km per liter..I had also chnged my engine oil to Valvoline 20w40, which could also be the reason since I find the bike to have better acceleration..

Check engine oil level and quality..if it had turned black then try using Valvoline 4T 20w40,or Gulf Pride 4 T 20w40,along with NGK G power spark plug...
The sudden stopping could be an oil related problem, and bike engine would have become very hot.

The 10w30 oil will go bad in just 500 Kms..becomes watery and engine becomes noisy and hot..the 20w40 oil goes bad in 1,500 Kms after which it needs change.
Since the problem had occurred after tappet adjustment, the adjustment is suspect..if it had been set a bit tight then compression leak and engine heating can occur..since you have Iridium plug you can continue to use it..unless the plug is old and done more than 20 K Kms.
Only If you want improvement in Mileage switch to NGK G power , otherwise the Iridium is good enough.

Its been close to 1K since I've lubed my chain, and you can imagine the state of it, since I only use TVS Chain Spray. Now the issue is that cause the chain running dry, when I ride with pillion and all its ok< but when I ride single I face the same issues as the one's you've mentioned above, the wobbles becomes more noticeable while shifting.
Changed the coneset, and he says that he doesnt feel the wobbles anymore.
Will ask him after using it for some 50- 100 kms on the highway.

                PSR sir,
Will putting 20W40 oil be fine?
The manual says 10w30. and we couldn't find a 10w30 semi synthetic oil till now.

Its 4500 kms on the odo, filled mineral for now and planning to switch to semi synt after 6000.

                Any suggestions regarding the oil?

                • Need to replace tires!
                  • Sometimes, when I let the accelerator to null and then suddenly pull it, the bike shuts off (CDI connector issue?)... Today while turning on a circle in Salt Lake Sector I, the bike was bent on some good angle, and I saw traffic in front - it was blank - so I pulled the accelerator and bike conked off and since it was in gear the rear tire locked and bike skid, but thanks to my Ninja reflexes that within a fraction of a second I pulled the clutch so rear wheel was free again and pressed the starter and moved ahead. This was totally unexpected. I've just got up from a fall, and these are bad consequences.

                  • I need suggestions on a replacement. Got to know that imjoshee ji and ramborider ji from Mumbai are looking for tires as well. Please guide your little brother here.
                  • PSR sir, how are you? As per your suggestion on the fuel meter issue (showing irrelevant number of bars), I bought an HP 2T oil sachet today. (40 ml) Right now there is around 10 litres of petrol in the tank before hitting reserve. So how many amount of 2T oil should be added for a correct mixture?

                  • Tomorrow, finally I'm going to the SVC for a service, it was pending since last umm... 4000 kms I guess and day after tomorrow, a ride of about 450 kms, would it be okay to experiment with this 2T addition to the petrol, before the Sunday ride? No problems in long rides? Just want the peace of mind, really going through a bad phase since last few weeks.
                  • The Sunday long ride of 450 kms total, I want to ride in decent pace with decent acceleration, in other words, I'm gonna ride it like Uncles drive their car on highways - casual acceleration, sleek shifts, speedometer needle hovering in the range 80-110 kph slowly. So, should I re-check the AFR? How many turns should be made in order to get the maximum FE in this kinda riding condition, mentioned above? (PS: tire pressures - front 28 PSI, rear 38 PSI, specially for highway)
                  • I want 40+ kmpl of FE during the entire trip, tips please?

The same happened to me when I was learning to ride on the ZMA, was riding in final gear when I throttled the bike and it shut down, even though I didnt have your Ninja Reflex's I was saved from a spill, and I still thank god for that, just imagine me presenting the day old bike after a spill to my parents. In my case the rear just locked and bike started skidding steadily, which gave me time to downshift and start the mill with the clutch pulled in.

Bro, go for PSD's if you can afford them. Am also looking to buy the same, have been saving for a while too, and infact would've already got them if it were'nt for the scary price tag. Anyways my tyres are @ 50% life so I believe in a while I'll somehow convince my folks to get em for me.

If you're planning on adding only like once in a while then 2ML/L will do, if you're planning on adding after every fill then 1ML/L will do. And why did'nt you go for the Castrol 2T oil. Psr Sir, recommended that, and I've been using it for a while now.

                    • Tomorrow, finally I'm going to the SVC for a service, it was pending since last umm... 3500 kms I guess and day after tomorrow, a ride of about 450 kms, would it be okay to experiment with this 2T addition to the petrol, before the Sunday ride? Nothing bad could happen even if you've by accident added excess, so I dont think there would be any problem if you experiment with the same prior to the trip.

Dont give excess throttle and stay within 80~90Kmph and you'll surely get atleast 45Kmpl. The optimum AFR for 2011 ZMA is 4 Turns. If you've got any doubts its better you set the optimum yourself by using the conventional method(Thats what I did.).

About 2t addition to fuel it won't be causing any harm at all. Its a negligible amount it will burn off. No issues in long rides at all.

About afr don't run on lean afr mix especially long rides. It will cause overheating of piston head. And in turn damage to engine and loss in ride quality. Run it rich on highway rides and high speed runs as it is better for engine. Since you are planning to do 80- 110 kmph.

And rear tire at 38 psi?? isn't that a little high? ride will be bumpy i guess.

Bro for 80 - 110 you won't be getting 40 + economy. . It is aquirable with lean tuning but why damage your bikes engine for saving some money. Later on you have to invest more on engine maintenance.

The original OE oil for ZMA was 20w40 mineral.
Try Shell AX 7 SS 10w40

                          • The dosage is 2ml per liter .If you are going to repeat it , then you should use 1ml per liter of fuel.

                          • The Castrol 2 T is prefered since it contains PIB which is good for combustion and does not leave much ash on combustion.

                          • AFR should be 3.5 turns to stop the engine cutting out on sudden acceleration you can try 4 turns for better overall performance...but try not to go below 3.5 as it will make the AFR lean..Front 24 PSI and rear 28 is the way to go for tour drives...a little less pressure helps in better grip.

To get higher mileage change your Spark Plug to NGK G power plug ASAP..costs 140/-and gives good jump in mileage (5 to 6 Kms per liter).Lube your chain with bearing grease, and adjust chain to correct tightness...don't whack open throttle, and always judge speed and traffic to do progressive overtaking....restrict sudden acceleration and speed to 110 kmph.

When I replace I'll do both, cause as far as I've understood its always better to replace both tires at the same time. Rear is PSD for sure here the last quoted price was 4.3K's(Aneesh bro please confirm, I may be mistaken.) And I've not seen anyone put a front Pirelli so I guess Michellin Pilot Sporty will do for front.

                              @Psr sir.
Is it OK for the bike to emit some timing chain noise??? i.e I dont feel it at idle, but its there when the engines really hot. And its not so loud to be noticeable, you'd have to put the bike on center stand and pay some attention to notice it, and the sound varies with acceleration. And would vanish when accelerating beyond 5k on main stand. So is this normal or something I should be concerned about???

The tensioner is about 7+K old. My first one got busted within 2K's of owning the bike.

It is up to you ...waste 2T 40ml..... 15/- or to use it.But Castrol 2 T is way above this oil in performance, and has low ash certification .

I think you are paying too much attention to the noises from the engine and loosing out on enjoying the ride..The timing chain noise cannot disappear but will remain throughout the RPM range..Check for Tappet clearance..
Do you hear a hissing sound while idling ?
