Can a 15W40 Motul semi synt be used. 5100 I guess..
Also, on the mileage front, for regular city commute, what RPM range would deliver maximum FE? Currently upshifting at 5-5.5 K, getting 28-30 kmpl.Money can get a 1942 BSA these days, but even Warren Buffet's whole Bank account can't get us our leg back!

NGK G power gives good cold start, good acceleration, don't have to wait for warm up for acceleration,...and very good improvement in FE... In my Karizma the FE went up from 32 to 40 + in city riding..I had now closed the Emulsion tube hole I drilled and additionally closed two stock ones..acceleration improved without sacrificing FE.Originally posted by Vishakh View PostWhich is the best spark plug for Karizma? Your horn needs tuning...if the contacts inside gets worn out this will happen..try tuning and the problem will go away.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View Post@PSR Sir,
Sir, did the 60Kmph test like you said and the only noticeable noise was the timing chain one, and when we close the throttle @60Kmph the timing chain noise is abit louder but still not that bold to get worried about. Or so I guess
.
And sir, today the bike started acting up again, but this time it's an electrical issue. While riding back I was negotiating a turn and when I honked the horn it worked but only after a delay of 2~3Secs. Later on the horn completely stopped working. So I turned the engine off and tried honking, but nothing happened, so tuned off the headlamp and honked a PUK sound came and that was it, so this time also turned off the pilots and honked again, this time everything worked well, so repeated back wards and the symptoms started showing up in reverse. So now am abit confused on what to do, so what should I do
The ZMA is supposed to growl like any other four stroker when throttle is closed from a higher RPM...nothing odd about it..Originally posted by sunny_ View PostWhat you talking about? I'm also getting some "growling" sound when I close the throttle, specially in the range 50-80 kmph, sound is similar to the heavy vehicles (their engine + tires sound kinda) when they move on highways on high speeds ... I hope you understand
But I'm ignoring it
I am getting around 40+ FE in city ,with NGK G power...so go for it, you will not regret it..Originally posted by acs1207 View PostSeems I'm bad at maths as I've believed
. Normally I get @ 27 - 29 kmph with my in town ripping ( 4k to 6k on tacho) - I like to be in the power band . ( I fill in for Rs 200/- get 2.95 liters ) .
Mr.Sriram made me aware of this plug and it's advantages...so full credit to him for the find.
I am running two 2 A horns without relay, without problem. But I do not use the horn much, unless warranted. All the clutch, accelerator etc., Cables in ZMA are polyurethane sheathed, and do not need lube unless damaged. They are maintenance free...If you see the inner after extracting a bit of it outside , you will see the soft plastic coating on the inner cable..Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostNo additional relay added since its similar to the stock horn setup with same voltage requirements so it was just plugged in to play.
What should be the voltages when idle and running???
The battery in full charge will be between 13 to 13.5 Volts. while idling it will be between 13.5 to 14.25., and when accelerator is increased will fall back to 13.5 to 14 Volts.
It is normal..but if you see large amounts, then it indicates thin oil, and higher blowback.Originally posted by flyingJian View PostGuys could anybody please help me understand is it normal to have some traces of engine oil in the air filter box.Last edited by psr; 03-19-2012, 08:34 PM.When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

If your bike had completed 5,000 Kms then you can go for Synth or Semi Synth oil .Originally posted by shreyassave View PostThanks for the reference!

I normally shift at 3.5 to 4 k RPM and am getting FE of 40+ in city ..thanks to NGK G power plug, and thanks to Mr.Sriram for educating me on this plug.

My 15000 km update
My '09 zma has crossed 15k kms without major issues.
Minor issues or niggles
1> cold start in the morning. tried every help that was available on the forum, but still it manages to get me very early in the morning
2> the electric starter won't fire when i am in the traffic signal and loads of cars behind but denies to malfunction in front of service mechanic, really annoying
3> changed my disk brake pads thrice owing to the poor rear brakes fitted on a not-so-good tyres.
4> The fairing rattles a lot, I mean hell lot. I usually go to office through nice road via kanakapura road entry and I maintain 110+ all the way, I am sure the fairing will fly away one or the other day.
5> fuel efficiency when i rip tends to be 30 and riding nice and slow inside city is 32, what's the point
6> The headlight is the bone of all contentions. I really hate the spread, eventhough I've changed it to osram, don't feel it's enough to see ahead with the scorpios, private buses on high beam blinding my sight, couple of times i narrowly missed people chugging on bicycles with no reflectors on kanakapura road
. Any ideas from folks in bangalore to get a nice hid and a mechanic contact to fix it would be helpful. I know...i know it's not legal, but when i have to do touring at night, nothing better than a hid to make the cars go on knees (aka low beam)
Having said the above, i am happy with the ownership. My previous '07 zma(25k kms) had a gears broken down and it was promptly replaced by HH under warranty. It's always pleasure to ride zma knowing that unless there is something horribly wrong, your ride won't give up easily.

Thanks for the caution. I asked directly in the spares center and he told me it is 350 rupees, but fitting it would cost another 200 bucks as service charge. The mechanic did some welding work and seems working fine. Lets see how good it stands.Originally posted by shhbz View Postdepending on the quality of the make starting from 200 to 300 was right and some mechanic fitting charges make sure the base of ur stand is straight as many sellers use some defective stand repaint it like new and sell it.
be sure when u buy it
NGK G Power is a very good choice for Karizma. We used it two years back and it was really good.Originally posted by psr View PostI normally shift at 3.5 to 4 k RPM and am getting FE of 40+ in city ..thanks to NGK G power plug, and thanks to Mr.Sriram for educating me on this plug.

Could somebody please educate me as to how much fuel will be left in reserve. Feeling ashamed to forgot it after using Karizma for 3 years.

No worries bro, as a matter of fact its our fate being ZMA owners that we are subjected to all sorts of niggles, just today morning there was an open stretch of road so croutched and throttled the bike to WOT, and for the first time in my ZMA's life it clocked a 140 Kmph. Which means its time for my speedo to get re-calibrated.Originally posted by sunny_ View PostWhat you talking about? Sure!
@Everyone.
The horn issue has seemed to have vanished. But just for safetys sake will be monitoring every minor detail, if possible next time will claim for a battery replacement as well.Motorcycling Experience:

@Psr sir,
If possible can you please post a pic of your horn setup, I've see many ZMA's from a distance having horns on both sides, and have been curious about them for a while. And it'd also be nice if you could guide me on the schematics.
Thanks in advance sir.
OT.

Not just the contact, but I had lifted the boot and applied it in also...this prevents moisture ingress esp., during rainy times and keep the master cylinder from corroding...further it had made my lever smooth with no glitches when I apply the front brakes. With single finger you can do sudden stops from 60 to 70 Kmph.Originally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostCould you please explain whats the use of applying grease at the master cylinder contact?

Are you sure its just 1.5 liters? I guess it is supposed to be more than 2 liters. Correct me if I am wrong.Originally posted by inder.cool View PostSay about 1-1.5 lts.

Edit: Checked on the Website. Its 2 liters.
Thanks for the explanation. Asked because I never saw grease being applied there. Thanks for the tip.Originally posted by psr View PostNot just the contact, but I had lifted the boot and applied it in also...this prevents moisture ingress esp., during rainy times and keep the master cylinder from corroding...further it had made my lever smooth with no glitches when I apply the front brakes. With single finger you can do sudden stops from 60 to 70 Kmph.
I would like to know if any of the members using Sirac Street 100/90 as TUBELESS fitting on their bike; just need some feedback on this.

@ravi.17bhp and inder.cool, I used to read the posts by you guys when I had no bike, and I was not even a member at that time; and before I bought it in November 2010, I had read almost all the posts till date. I'm glad to see you again here.
