  • Anybody fitted ZMR's double horns in Karizma? I toured on ZMR for two days, and I found the horns to be very decent and effective. I would like to fit those horns for my Karizma. I see the horns are fitted nicely to a frame. Is it possible to fit the frame in Karizma?

    Any inputs are highly appreciated.

guys my bike wil be completing a year in the coming weekend...so want to renew the insurance policy soon...pls suggest me a gud policy so that i can get claims and the amount must be decent enough...i had icici lombard which i got from HMC.

and also i went to the my to adjust the tappet as more frequent noise were coming lately...but he told me that the tensioner has gone kaput....so does it affect the engine???as i might do a 500kms ride this weekend...and the pickup and topend is also down.it struggles to go beyond 100.and show i go for a local made or the original tensioner..how much it will cost??

Not as effective as the Tractor Horns, or the Bosch ones. Better opt for those instead of going for ZMR dual horn setup.

Not in a major way, but better get it replaced, else theres chance that the timing chain will jump off when riding hard.

No worries about top end, its a ZMA, it looses steam around 100~115kmph.

        how much it will cost??
        IIRC 490/-

        • 17k ownership experience

          Hi Guys,
I have been a regular reader of xbhp for years. I have read so much that I feel I know a lot of xbhpians personally (satyen, vishwas, inder.cool, psr, aneesh, ashwin, kurtrules amit SriramEfunds and many more). I created a login last December and this is my first post here (quite a lazy fellow when it comes to social networking)
I have a 2010 Karizma R which has done 17.5k on the odo. I have used 1989 BajajSuper, 2005 Yamaha Fazer 125 and 2008 CBZ extreme. My decision to buy this bike was based on xbhp reviews and some pushing from friends. And I have been happy owning it. One important reason was its touring ability. I have done around 5.5k on tours (including Ladakh, Konkan and some nearby places) and riding Karizma has been a pleasure. Power is good especially in the higher rpm range, bike is very comfortable and stable. Engine does not misfire even after running for hours (it's a honda afterall). On the mileage front I have been getting around 39-42 kmpl regularly (maybe running lean) but there has been no tinkering with the factory settings.
Maintenance has not been an issue but parts are definitely very costly. Have changed parts worth Rs. 6-8k till now (all three rear cowl parts, left front cowl, handle bar, head light assembly, front mud guard, front fork out and some small stuff here and there). All this was thanks to the great Indian Railways when transporting for the Ladakh ride to Delhi. Servicing has been done regularly and I change oil (stock HH till now) every 1.5k to 2k kms. Intend to change oil to Gulf 4T+ 20W40.
Off late I have been reading the ownership thread a lot and intend to service my bike myself starting gradually from the basics (Never found complete satisfaction from ASC). Also want to improve the lower end throttle response a little.
Here are some of the problems I have:
          1) Poor headlight. Want to change to a better bulb that does not affect battery performance. Have read that Philips Premium is good.
          2) Neutral keeps lighting up even in 3rd ,4th ,5th gears.
          3) Gears are a little stiff and noisy.
          4) I think the clutch does not disengage completely. With engine running in neutral on main stand, when I change to first gear the tyre starts rotating even when the clutch lever is pulled completely. I can stop it without stalling the engine and it restarts when left again(clutch lever pulled completely thoughout these steps.) The speed with which it rotates is low.
          5) The bike needs choke for starting and idle warming up for 20-30 seconds for hiccup-less ride. Needs choke in the evening too. But I am not much bothered with this. It is natural for cold engine.

Also I would like to know what to check and change on the bike near the 20k odo reading.
That's it for now. Hope I keep active on this thread.
          Keep posting guys. Ride safe.

Try and 55/60 with a relay and you'd be satisfied, personally I dont like the expensive ones, cause I fell they're less VFM.

            2) Neutral keeps lighting up even in 3rd ,4th ,5th gears.
Check the thingi when you open the front sprocket cover.

            3) Gears are a little stiff and noisy.
            Go for Yamalube 20w40.

No worries, its supposed to happen. Completely natural.

            Once again, completely natural.

Would suggest to upgrade your battery 9ah and go for 55/60w bulb. You can choose from Philips Premium to Philips Xtreme Vision again depends on your preference/cost etc.

              2) Neutral keeps lighting up even in 3rd ,4th ,5th gears.
Actually this should be the switch need to be checked. Remember, if the switch needs to be replaced, engine needs to be opened up.

Using choke is natural, however, I'm running on 3.5 turn on AFR and have never felt to use choke often. I take out my ZMA only during weekend rides, I turn on fuel tap and kick start my bike without using choke, Max 2 kicks and she comes to life.

Also I would like to know what to check and change on the bike near the 20k odo reading.
If I were you would go check and replace the following:-

              1. Tyres
              2. Consumabales like cables - Accelerator and Clutch
              3. Front and rear brake shoe/pads
              4. Clutch plates
              5. Chain sprocket kit
              6. Go for G-Power plug (tried and tested here and costs 140/-) - Some may go for Iridium Plug (500/-), personally I dont like the expensive ones, cause I fell they're less VFM.

What to look out from servicing?
              1. Carb cleaning
              2. Tappet adjustment
              3. Chain tensioner
              4. Valves clearance.
              5. Fork

Seniors, please feel free to share your thoughts if I had missed any.

Aswin, I don't know how loud is the Tractor horn that you are using, but I found the Karizma twins are decent and louder enough, and at the same time, doesn't cause much sound pollution. I don't want to use those loud Bosch horns and irritate people and help in building more noise pollution.

If you feel the Tractor horns are decent and not very loud enough, then I will go for it.

                  2. Sound of my Cosworth.

                  3. The weird noise my tank makes, pay special attention.

The Motul 3100 20w40 has been my favorite till date! Its a mineral oil and costs around Rs.250.
Picked up a can of Motul 3100 GOLD 20w50 last week for Rs320. Its again full mineral.
Recently changed to Shell AX5 20w40. So this Motul has to wait for sometime!

The noise is coming from the float I suppose.

I know its the float, and thats whats irritating me. Knowing the root cause and being helpless cause I cant do anything about it. So guess am going to learn to live with it.

And you wont believe what SVC said, its normal and warranty cant be claimed. Only if the tanks full and noise comes it can be considered as a manufacturing defect, so am patiently waiting for someone to explain to me, HOW THE HELL WILL IT MAKE NOISE WHEN THE TANKS FULL!!!
The SVC people are getting stuppider by the minute.

Reminds me of an old hindi song: 'dekh tere sansar ki haalat kya hogayi bhagwas...kitna badal gaya insan'
