This has been a long wait for me to get into the family. For those who do not know me, I am Harish Kumar from Chennai pursuing my automobile engineering in SRM University. The bike came in long back(Nov 2) but had exams in between so was held up from posting.
On delivery day
Recent
Current Status:
*Stock bike, 518kms covered(which means due for first service)
*Running on 10W30 HH oil. Not thinking of moving to higher grade oil before run in is over(for warranty reasons)
*AFR screw - 3 turns
Pros:
Extremely smooth, good low end torque and I love the looks
Cons:
Hard seat, no side stand warning light, rear brake and the headlight doesn't turn!
Observations:
In city-traffic the bike heats up; probably will be cooler when running on higher grade oil. Cold start a small niggle but after a little chocking the bike starts(stock spark plug!!). Did a 220km(to & fro) ride to Ranipet today. Took the bike upto 90kmph once and kept varying from 60 to 80. Absolutely no fuss. By the time I reached city, it was dark and then I understood why everyone complained about the headlamp!! Will move to 55/60 when absolutely needed. Yet to discover more...... Damn it, I need to read 1304 pages!!Last edited by harishkumarko; 11-25-2012, 09:24 PM.Tour De Thekkady

I read your thread on KB100 and it was one of my favorite bikes when i was a child.
Karizma is one of my favorite at present. I envy you as you own two of my favorite bikes
.
Karizma is one of the smoothest bike presently in the market and still competition has to catch in few areas with this old bike.I was going to buy it but some where i like new extreme much more so went for it.
Still i ride my friends karizma and also help him in sorting out problems and he maintains it like new. The torque is amazing and it pulls so cleanly that it feels like diesel motor.I still feel that looking at a black karizma polished and shining in sun is very good sight.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. Wow ZMA's are still getting sold in good numbers
After the 2nd or 3rd service switch to higher grade oil, The ones I have used with good results are Gulf Pride 4T plus, Motul 3000 4T plus, Valvoline Champ 4T.Last edited by ryan.virgo; 11-25-2012, 10:19 PM.

Congratulations & Ride safe bro.Originally posted by harishkumarko View Post*Stock bike, 518kms covered(which means due for first service)

Its best to run with 10w30 HH oil for 2k atleast, cause it speeds up the run in process. Just make sure your throttle input is smooth and gentle. Also make sure you take breaks between long rides.
*AFR screw - 3 turns
That'd do fine, its best to set the bike abit rich during run-in.
Pros:
Extremely smooth, good low end torque and I love the looks
Cons:
Hard seat
Correction, its actually the best seat in class. Try doing 100+kms on the P220 or R15, and you'll get my point.
, no side stand warning light,
rear brake
Let it wear in abit. Mines currently very sqeaky, but at the same time very sensitive, if Im riding solo and I brake, then for sure the rear will loose traction, now its become a habit and I do it for posing.
and the headlight doesn't turn!
Does the ZZ14R's or Busa's headlight turn???
Observations:
In city-traffic the bike heats up;probably will be cooler when running on higher grade oil.
True indeed. I run on 10w40 FS and bikes set rich, even yet the bike heats up in traffic.
Cold start a small niggle but after a little chocking the bike starts(stock spark plug!!).
The ZMA wont start without choke, unless the starting temp is high enough or you're running on bigger pilots.

Congrats and welcome to the ZMA owners thread...The ZMA's ride and feel is addictive. Once you get accustomed to the bike's ergonomics, you will love to use it more....it is the best in class tourer, with relaxed cruising at 100+ Kmph, and still manages to return a healthy FE..Now that you have done 500+ Kms you can switch over to 10~20 w 40 oil.Stick to mineral till 1,500 Kms .You can install a normal 55/60 Halogen bulb used in Maruti cars for better headlight powerOriginally posted by harishkumarko View PostThis has been a long wait for me to get into the family. Thanks a lot ashwinOriginally posted by ashwinprakas View PostCongratulations & Ride safe bro.
. My complaint about the headlight is because I am used to a bike which had a headlight that would turn(KB100RTZ). Same with the seat. And your bike heats up maybe because there is too(oo) much fuel which leads to a little afterburning(particularly at low speeds). You run at how many turns??
Thanks a lot sir. Looks like I need not worry much with our doc around. YOU!Originally posted by psr View PostCongrats and welcome to the ZMA owners thread...The ZMA's ride and feel is addictive. Re: Karizma/Karizma R
Congrats Harish and welcome to zma family. Yes, as you said, go through old posts to understand better. My advice is buy riding gears for your safety.

Please go through this post - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...tml#post892319 & see if anything helps on that entire thread.Originally posted by ryan.virgo View PostHi Everyone . How often do you polish your bike? and which polish would you recomend ?
I'd any day suggest products like Collinite, Meguiar's, Mother's, Pinnacle, 3M, Optimum, Chemical Brothers, Dodo Juice, Durogloss, Menserna, etc. But they aren't available here so easily, but if you can get hold of them, nothing like it.
Locally ones include Motoman, but I don't know how good are they. Formula one has lots of fake, if you're able to distinguish between fake & original ones, go for the original one.Last edited by aargee; 11-26-2012, 11:55 AM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Congrats Harish and welcome to the ZMA club. Happy to know that this under-rated bike is still bought. Enjoy your ownership and there are some gurus here on everything related to ZMA. Do buy some protective gears and enjoy your long rides.
I was surprised to know that the FZ-16 faired version is priced higher than the ZMA in bangalore. As psr rightly mentioned, once you use the ZMA, its very hard to get a proper replacement for it and is a brilliant and comfortable tourer. The only thing it lacks for to me is power and top-speed, with the roads becoming ever smoother and wider.Ride Safe. Respect others on the road.
Safety never hurts

All ZMA owners feel the same,of lesser power and top speed....still try riding any equivalent bike at those speeds and you will understand ZMA's strength.Own it to know more about the bike...it is still made not only in India but also abroad...Originally posted by krish View PostI was surprised to know that the FZ-16 faired version is priced higher than the ZMA in bangalore.
